kenratboy
Ummmm, if that is not bada$$, I don't know what is. Imagine the excursion on those woofers!!! Tom Adams
Yum - EEEEEE............. You know, I had plans to dump the KSW-15 I'm currently making do with in my HT for a new sub this year. And my short list included the Klipsch RSW-15, the Klipsch THX120, the SVS PB12-Plus/2, the REL Stadium III, and possibly a Dayton Titanic 15 (for the cheap b*stard in me). But I think all of these have taken a back seat now that I've seen this new offering. I had the chance to pull the trigger on a RSW-15 just before Christmas and decided not to. Sure glad I didn't. Hmmmmm.......I wonder if a 15" version is on the way??? Tom
kenratboy
Yes, they are very much like the Martin-Logan - but remember, the ML use THREE ACTIVE DRIVERS on all three sides. Here is their biggest: http://www.martinlogan.com/descent_speaker.html No idea if a 15" is in the works. I am going to say for the Reference line, no, just the 10 and 12-inch. But if they have a super mega series, I would not be surprised to see some larege woofer action!
CECAA850
Smells like a 15 in the Premiere line to me[:#]
CAS
I must say, she certainly is pretty. If she can sing as well as she can dance then she'll be a 10.
CAS
specs! specs! specs!
TheEAR
Smells like a 15 in the Premiere line to me[:#] Exactly, the Premiere sub will very probably end up using a 15" active woofer paired with a 18" PR. Like the one we saw in some pics posted a while back(have them on my hard drive...). I'll get the Premiere sub too in that case. []
Petrol
I like... even before seeing any specs... but my budget cries for a sweet deal on a slightly used RW-12 possibly a RSW-
DrWho
Yes, they are very much like the Martin-Logan - but remember, the ML use THREE ACTIVE DRIVERS on all three sides. And having 3 active drivers is a huge setback in the performance of the subwoofer...one big bad sub easily outperforms three little subs. You can't expect a 10" sub to dig very low without losing a lot of efficiency - and at only 400 watts you're prob looking at 105dB down to 18Hz with the martin logans... The RT-12d will probably be able to handle a good 115dB down to 16Hz when loaded in a corner (just a rough guess based on nothing really). Or maybe klipsch went for max output which would be like 124dB down to 23Hz.
MrMcGoo
Thw RT-12d with digital EQ allegedly has an 800 watt amp RMS and retails at $1999, if I'm reading correctly. If those factoids are true, my theater is not as finished as I thought it was. At first the triangular shape threw me till I thought about it. It will be perfect for my theater as far as I can tell. The three different output EQs should satisfy most users. The RT-d subs look to be the best part of the Reference 4 series. Kudos to the Klipsch sub designers may be in order. I will at least get the 10 and 12 [] I thought TheEar only buys stackable subs because you have no more roon [] I don't think you can stack them being the lcd screen and controls being on top and all
DrWho
Now that would be a sight to see....6 stacked on top of each other in both front corners.... [H] I'm sure the feet would provide enough clearance....if not, just put in a few coasters.
Jay481985
I wonder how much each actual subwoofer weighs. under 100 pounds? who wants to take bets lol
Moderators dtel Posted January 6, 2006 Moderators Share Posted January 6, 2006 This should be just what the DrWho ordered.DrWho's : [ what kind of subwoofer are you looking to build? One of my favorite designs involves using a triangle, somewhat tucked into a corner with a front-firing active and two "side" firing passives. Since triangles are strong and almost every face is covered with a driver there isn't much need for too much excessive bracing. In fact, the only real thing to worry about is the entre sub itself jumping around (but that should be minimized cuz no two drivers are facing the same direction...they all cancel each other out). ]
CECAA850
Wouldn't a 3 sided design limit placement options, or does it not necessarily have to go in a corner?
MrMcGoo
The only thing that the new design is unlikely to be able to do is act as an end table. Like any sub, it will be best in a corner. Bill
CECAA850
Sometimes corner placement isn't practical or optimal. I was just wondering if the 3 sided configuration would work well against a wall.
