rborder
It's almost like these things grow on trees. Being HIP's, they have big holes in the top. So we cut a 2X4 to fit in the cabinet, screwed an eye-hook into it (poking out the handle hole), and suspended them by a wire. This way I was able to paint all 6 sides in a single shot. Used my pressurized tank HVLP gun, which allows shooting paint from any angle, and laid down a pretty good coat of satin black enamel, over an enamel primer. Finish is pretty darn close to what I was hoping for; texture is a bit heavier than on my CP1's. Will post a better image or two when they're all assembled. With a little luck, I'll be listening to them again this weekend.

Erik Mandaville
rborder: From a modern art/installation viewpoint, IMO really beautiful sculptural. I like Klipsch speakers, but the visual aspect alone is to me striking and fascinating. Powerful, mysterious, and maybe even slightly haunting. Would you mind if I saved a copy of this? Speedball
That must be the adult version of a playground set.
mike stehr
That first pic does look cool in a artsie way..... A local friend takes his speaker and subwoofer cabinets and has them painted with the truckbed LineX stuff. They come out rather nice looking, and the bedliner stuff is heavy enough that it works well towards extra damping.
Jay481985
that is such a great IDEA! now I need to find something capable of holding my subwoofer box that weighs 150 pounds..... I don't think the local police would like it too much if I used the kids playground?[]

dtel's daughter
I have to ask... [:-*] Didyou hang upside down by your knees from the monkey bars and paint some of it? and ... Was it fun?
rborder
Judging by the amount of black paint overspray I'm covered with, you'd think so...
dtel's daughter
LOL they look good from what i can tell. But you should have at least tried to hang upside down that way we could have a pic of it.

You responded just as I did, and in a way that really had nothing to do with the fact that what was shown was simply a speaker painting project. I don't know if you are familiar with the sculptor Louise Nevelson, but some of her work has a quality that is very similar. IMO visually fascinating, but potentially also very somber. Andrew Wyeth's paintings can be like that, too: Country landscapes and scenes of rurual farm life that are often depicted by other painters in a way that might suggest serenity and peacefulness. Not so under his brush; his work has been often described, both by the painter himself and by art critics, as extremely severe and forboding. Not necessarily pleasant or 'happy,' but extremely powerful -- again, IMO. Anyway, I know this is all really off-topic, but these photographs show work that might seriously be considered the works of a master sculptor in circles that appreciate and promote modern, nob-objective art. rborder
Well, this started out as a technical question about differences between commercial and consumer gear, and some technical questions about paint/finish techniques, so I'll finish it here... even though it probably belongs in either: The photo gallery, The HomeTheater Group, or The Commercial Audio group. Here's how the Heresy's finally turned out: Like I mentioned earlier, texture is a just a bit heavier than what is on the CP1's, but is quite similar to some other Heresy's I've seen. Paint is a bit more glossy too; but I think with a little time/dust/wear, that will even out. That's obviously my CP1 beside them. I figured this was about the only way to have a center channel that wouldn't be totally dominated by my main speakers. For a little perspective: The 3rd Heresy, over in the corner is the right side channel. Plan is to hang it, up near the ceiling, probably on it's side again. There is, of course, another one over on the left side, out of view from this angle. Still have lot's of work to do with this setup, but speaker wise, I'm just about set. Those 2 chairs over in the corner are really just spare's; not a position that's at all optimized for viewing/listening to movies. On the plus side, that 3rd Heresy is sitting on top of my big (homebuilt) subwoofer right now, so that corner of the room gets the maximum shaker effect :-). There are 2 little KG1.2's in the rear of the room; those are the last speakers to be upgraded, though at this point I'm not really sure what with. Best idea so far is a pair of KSM-12's mouted upside-down at the wall-ceiling corner. No hurry on that little project though, have plenty else to do.
