BEC
Just starting with the parts layout. You may take a guess.. Bob Crites
D-MAN
Wow! Something with a giant iron-core monster on it - clearly a crossover - but Bob - for what, exactly? Dana

Deang
Hmmm, I never was very good at guessing. Something you need so you can run 8 CornScalas at the same time.

Deang
I got it -- it's just the thing you use to hold the board down while you drive the screws in the barrier strip. voice coil impedance multiplier You just made that up that didn't you? Erik Mandaville
Here's an example, but just a little on the costly side for me. There are less expensive ways of going about the same thing. http://www.zeroimpedance.com/story.html Erik
Guest " "
a 32 hz high pass filter. the filter sends signals above 32hz to a woofer anything below 32 hz to a large resistor purpose is to clean up bass driver performance by eliminating signals that the bass woofer can't reproduce the ressistor would have to be about 100 watts wire-wound. the capacitor about 500ufs the inductor....yeah..that one is big enough

BEC
The big chunk of iron and copper is a transformer. It weighs 20 pounds. Bob
Erik Mandaville
Right. It looks to me as if it were either a multi-tapped coil or autoformer, or that it has an actual primary and secondary winding. It doesn't appear to be a conventional inductor. Is it related to 120VAC/60 cycles in any way? edit: And is the 3 lug terminal strip in the center possibly for hot-neutral-ground? BEC
Ok, you need some specs on the transformer. Rated 117 VAC in and 68 volts out at no load. Should put out about 16 amps at 48 Volts. At a dead short, limited to about 20 amps. In other words, it is loosely coupled. Bob Crites
