hardiride69
I'm looking for a home theater sub, but I also listen to alot of music whether it be in 6.1 sacd, or 2 channel audio. I listen to people like Bob Segar, Eric Clapton , country , rock , r&b. I am looking to build a home theater room/stereo room right now. The room size is 11' w x 23' l x 7.5' h. Here is where I'm at so far: Panasonic LCD projector, 106" fixed screen, Yamaha XRV 3200 6.1 receiver, Yamaha sacd 750 dvd player, Carver TFM 35 thx amp running KLF 20's in the front; Carver TFM 35 thx amp running KLF 20's in the rear, KLF C7s front and rear centers and two Rockford Fosgate 12's subs that are great for music listening but lacking in home theather use. Here is what I have been looking at: Paradigm Servo-15 / VELODYNE DLS 5000R / Velodyne SPL-1500/ Velodyne Servo GHS 15 /18 / Defintive Technology PF18TLor pf 15/ Sunfire True Subwoofer / Sunfire Dominator D-12 / klipsch rw15 /rw12 I'm looking for a sub in the $1600 or lower range that is going to be able to keep up with my KLF 20's as I am running about 250 watts to them and I do play them loud . Also at a later time I will be adding another sub if needed. Any advice or comments that you have are also appreciated. Thanks.
rcarlton
I have a SVS PB12 plus/2 which keeps up with my K-horns. It is in your price range.

Fish
I've used several subs in the $500 and less range with 20's,they all sounded good. The 20's in my 16x23 room already have pretty good bass.If I had your budget I'd buy two $750 (ballpark) subs,Klipsch,SVS,HSU or the like. Joe Shmoe
At the time I got my KLF-30's, the salesman sold me an M&K 350 THX..... I love it! Otherwise I would say go with the Klipsch RSW-
DrWho
I was thinking about your list quite a bit and think the Klipsch sub would be the best mate to your KLF-20's. If you like your KLF's then the klipsch subs are going to have that same punchy sound, but digging way lower. And I would recommend against sunfire and SVS due to your concern for musicality. If you don't listen very loud, then you might look into the units with the servo drive as they are supposed to be way cleaner than anything else (they just don't have good SPL tracking capability). darkside
I picked up a Earthquake Supernova MK-IV 10 for $374.99 and it, in my opinion, is great for music, which is its main duty. I have read mixed reviews of this sub around the web, but mine works splendidly with my RF-15s. I know chops had some for sale, but I'm not sure if he still does.... toddvj
And I would recommend against sunfire and SVS due to your concern for musicality. I don't know about SVS, but I don't know why you'd say that about sunfire, unless you've never listened to them.
DrWho
I've listened to them [] In fact, just heard another one over the 4th of July weekend in a very acoustical friendly room. They're great for applications where small is ideal, but there are all sorts of tradeoffs to accomplish the size. If you like the dynamic sound of horns, then I'm not sure how you can like the power compressed sound of a small driver in a small cabinet. Not to mention something that sounds like port chuffing - probably due to the insane speeds the driver has to move to achieve the displacement necessary for even normal SPL's. Heck, wave your hand in the air that fast and you can hear the same effect.
