33klfan
How do you classify by the serial number what year a heritage speaker is. Like there is Cornwall with a serial number of 5N831 and type CD-BR. What does the type stand for also? I thought this would help me and other people when looking for heritage klipsch speakers to know what years they are without asking all the time. 33klfan
Thanks, that's going to take some studying. So would the serial number i gave be 83's?
LoudnClear
N = 1975
33klfan
That's what i thought but wasn't sure. I wonder what the other numbers mean then. At this model year did they have the good woofers and tweeters in them. I know all cornwalls do but I was reading about what year was the best and i wonder if these are a good year. Budman
CD-BR stands for Cornwall Decorator - Birch Raw. N is indeed 1975 and it was the last year for the pie slice logo. all cornwalls are good years and i prefer them with the pie slice logo. yummy
33klfan
Do the drivers in cornwall last forever or any heritage last forever as far as material durability. I didn't know what they were made of.
oldtimer
Pretty much, especially compared to just about every other brand, and if they have not been abused physically, electronically, or environmentally. That's not to say crossover upgrades might not be beneficial, or that voice coils sometimes need replacing.
33klfan
Is there a way to know what drivers or tweeters are in them or do you have to pull the back off?
33klfan
Is the pie slice logo on the grill because i don't see it on the picture of the one i'm looking at?
Budman
75 cornwalls should have the K-33 woofer - K-55V midrange with the K-600 horn and the round magnet K-77 tweeter. whats in them today you will have to pull the backs off and look inside. as far as the pie slice logo you will have to show a picture of the speaker. 75 was the last year for that logo which was glued on. my 68's and 71,72 and 74 logos are all nailed on. Budman
pie slice logo's are in the upper right and left hand corners. these grills do not have them. looks like brand new cloth. klipsch sells the new version of the pie slice logo that they use on the cornwall 3. last time i bought a set they were like 12 dollars each. 33klfan
Thanks for the info. Since these are made in 1975, are they cornwall 1's? They look like II's.
Budman
if these were CD-BR or cornwall decorators they came from the factory without grills. someone added the front molding and added the grills. still very nice looking cornwalls.
Budman
cornwall 1's, 2's didn't come out till 1986 they also made vertical cornwalls up to 1974 that they called cornwall 11's also
33klfan
What do you think would be a fair price for these? There is a gauge on one of them, but i'll show a picture. The guys wants $800 obo.
Budman
800 is way to much for birch raw speakers. if they came from the factory with walnut veneer or oak or cherry they would be worth it. other people on here might chime in and tell you what they are worth. 33klfan
He stained them a fruitwood color while he had them. I thought the price was high. I offered him $600-$700.
