Colter stopped by yesterday

Michael stopped by the house yesterday and I got a first hand look at his mobile test facility. You got to see it to believe it. The back of his Honda is set up with banana terminal outputs hooked up to some hugh mobile amps. Stereo and sub outs so he can road test his acquisitions. He's got a heck of a test bench. I thought I was in need of professional advice when it comes to audio. I feel so much better now.

One of his newest is a sweet pair of KP-250s in Oak. Nice! Metal screen and a very nice Oak Veneer. OH, and some killer clamps on the cabs for pole mounting. Of course he opened up the trunk, grabbed up some cables, and fired them up in the parking lot in front of the apartment. I know my neighbors impressions of me are now cemented forever.

While he was here I did get a chance to give him a test drive of the McAlister PP-150 and my Wallrus. It was a nice little visit.

Good seeing you again Michael.

IMO, Michael can not possibly be classified as an "audio geek", his classification is "audio freak".[;)]

The man is difinitely expanding his "House of Klipsch".

Harry he told me about those speakers, I bet they are nice looking.

Thank you. They're not bad for my prototypes. I'm working on a new design with seperate bass bins and a pivoting horn section. My room dimensions make for some strange mods for sure.

I don't think it will be long before Michael gets the lot next door to him and builds a state of the art Klipsch private facility. With a bit more organization he could almost qualify as a showroom/museum as it is.

DD,

K-600 throated, Atlas PD-5VH mids, Crites CW1526 cast woofs, Crites CT-125 tweets, modded B-2 to fit the Atlas, Cornwall cabinet volume with cut down port size that brought out the monster bass from the cast woofs. Super efficient now. Barely crank the volume up 1 notch. I haven't been able to turn it up past 9:00 o'clock. I'm not going to damage my hearing just showing off. At that volume I can shake the gravel out of my cactus and move the pictures on the walls.(who says tubes ain't got no balls)

I did find out just using the Cornwall cabinet volume didn't mean you could build a pair of Cornwalls that would fit my room which was my original intention. EVERYTHING changed when the cabinet changed form. Even with the same cabinet volume. The lower shelf also went through major changes. This hasn't been a rip and assemble process by any means. I used a lot of computer programs for cabinet design and they were basically useless. A lot of trial and error. But progress and knowledge have been gained. Plus I'm building them myself. The design continues. I'm still making progress and I'm changing to a different design on the horns later.

I love them the way they are. I couldn't ask for a better speaker for the room and my ears. I just WANT MORE!!!!! With a bit of hard work and a bit more knowledge I may just achieve my goal. Then I have to start over on the next design. And maybe the next. It's just a different form of audio love.

And a big note of thanks to Bob Crites here. He worked with me on many steps in the original build. I went through over a dozen motorboards and different horn combos until I made them fit this room. Bob was there anytime I needed advice, suggestions, help, or parts. I couldn't ask for better than Bob. A+ in my book.

The name. Bailey Wallrus II. Serial # s 1 & 2. I've built 3 more pairs of these I've sold to people who have heard them. These are my originals beat up, finishing flaws, etc. But I'm very happy with the sound.

Harry,

You have arrived at a configuration very close to what Gregg Doddrell was building in Dallas for his outfit called North American Sound. He built two large tower types. The one with the 15 inch woofer he called the Studio Monitor and same configuration with a 12 and smaller cab was the Squire. Obviously he owed a debt to Klipsch for what he turned out. His cabs were ported out the back, though, top and bottom.

I bet they do sound very good.

Harry's Walrusses are amazing. Great sound in his apartment room, he's make great inroads (if not in the interior design dept [;)]), since I first visited him last fall. There is a prime seating location, tubes, tubes and more tubes, the Crowns are gone, so are the Forte II's (MINE all mine) and I think the CW's I traded went to a friend or storage.

Harry got the design right on these, I didn't measure, but the few tunes I heard the other day were full bodied, no lack of bass, good voice in mid, etc. And the finish he produced is like GLASS! For what he calls prototypes they are pretty incredible pieces of craftsmanship, especially considering the cramped quarters where they were hand-whittled. And those horns are just at the right height to take your head...clean...off!

Thanks for the visit Harry, even if your little friend made a no-show again. Geesh, I'm getting a complex over that....[:$]

Michael,

Thanks for stopping by. Thanks for the great review!

I built these for me and my tastes in sound. I've been fortunate in the way they turned out.

Next time by we will have to do the bedroom listening area. MC75s, Dodd ELP, Altec Valencias, or Altec 604Bs with the Denon CD-301. They sound pretty awesome too!

Meeting so many from the forum here has just increased my love for music and the building of nice systems. It is a real pleasure to share with all of you this love of Klipsch in any form. I'm fortunate to be here on this forum. Thanks to all.

Harry

You do know she showed up 15 minutes after you left. She was walking the dog. (Ugliest dog I think I've ever seen BTW) No reason for a complex. She was dressed to the max for you. But I'm sure you've already talked to her and have all this info.

We're just the same as the rest of you Klipsch Geeks on here. Stick a couple of us in the same room and you already know what the conversation is going to be like. You know! "So and So has a pair of ...., What do you think of.....? Did you see the post of.....? SOS different day. We love our Klipsch!

We're about 20 minutes as the crow flies or 30-35 through Indy's myriad of construction zones and stop lights.

Michael do I need to bring some tools and get there a week ahead of time to help build an addition, you have to be running out of room ?

Oh, gee here we go......

No, but in case I ever get title to this property, would love a landscaper's view on what could/should be done with the property.

Is that why I haven't seen him posting as often lately? [ip]

Sounds like you guys had a fun visit. How far are you from Colter?

It's a bit of a trip but an easy drive. On the 465 'clock', I'm inside town about 1, Harry's just outside at 6. Only 20-30 minutes. And the conversation flows pretty easily between us.
