fmushkin
A parting gift for my son: kg 1.5's mains, kv-3 center, ss.5 surrounds (e-bay deals and my previous equipment). Which used powered sub would work well? The 1.5's are 3db down at 50 hz, so another octave would be 25hz...
theplummer
I have a SW10II that I might be willing to part with, it does well, but can't keep up with my Chorus's.
fmushkin
A call to Klipsch revealed that, since the SW-10 and its ilk were designed before Dolby Digital home theater, they are better suited to music than film explosions - the woofer will bottom out. Given that, what would be a frugal recommendation for a sub for this starter 5.1 setup?

theplummer
Sorry Fmushkin, I've been off the computer for a while, Although, I still havn't sold either of my houses and still can't replace my SW10II. If your still interested when something sells, I'll be sure to email you. But, I'll bet you find a better solution before that happens. Good luck. masterxela
I don't believe the "timbre" match is as important with subs. A good sub is a good sub with kg's, reference or heritage. Synergy sub-12 is popular and not too pricey. I don't like the idea of used subs, too easy to abuse, and people do for sure.
darkside
There are other possibilities away from Klipsch. I, as always, recommend an Earthquake Supernova of any type. Extension down toanything....they are wonderful....here are the current ebay offerings... http://shop.ebay.com/items/Consumer-Electronics_Home-Audio__earthquake_W0QQ_nkwZearthquakeQQ_npmdnuZ
