tpmann
Hello, I'm looking into buying a pair of Heresy HBRs (circa 1980s). They are in very good condition (a few minor knicks) but as good as new sound wise. The wood is the dark birch veneer. The person I'm buying them from was the original owner and has the original boxes with matching serial numbers. I am looking for some input as to what a reasonable price for these speakers would be. Thanks in advance for any help. Tyler
Groomlakearea51
Welcome to the Forum. Early 80's HBR (Heresy-I's) probably about ~$450. depends. Later mid-late 80's Heresy-II's, maybe ~$500. Seeing it's the original owner, boxes, etc. it will be your call. But that would be a fair start in your negotiations. Remember, birch is a fairly light. Dark indicates they have been stained. If so, it's difficult to change the hue.
tpmann
Thanks a lot for your reply, that is what I figured around 400-500. Thanks again.
klipschaholik
Are these the decorator models, the ones with no grills, if so probably a little more. Don't forget that you'll want to spend a little to freshen up the capacitors as they lose their zing over the years. After that you'll have what are essentially new heresys. Good luck on your purchase.

Dale A B
I think 4-500 dollars for a used pair of Heresy's, from the original owner, who probably paid less than $750 when new, is too much. For that price, you can get nice Fortes. As a general rule, pay only 20 to 33% of original retail on used speakers. Are you aware that Heresy's can be bass shy ? " In 1989 I walked into a base exchange store and could have bought LaScala's for 525 each. Don't know what list was at the time..or retail across the US...but 15 to 20 year old LaScala's are hare to come by at 20% to 33%.
tpmann
Yeah and I am not exactly sure what the Heresy I HBRs retailed for back then?
colterphoto1
When they were last sold, the Heresy retailed at $770 per pair in BR, $880 in oiled finish Heresy II was last sold at $1098 and $1318 for lacquered styles.

Doc Robin
Right at $900 for my 83's from Custom Audio. So those lists are right on the money. Later Bill
