Mabu
I attended an auction in Arkansas of some storage facilities andpicked up a really badly-home-made woofer box that appears to have twoKlipsch 12" woofers in it. I need some help identifying these woofersand want to know what my options are in having them refurbished. Theseare 12" woofers with huge magnets on it... there's a note on the backsaying they handle 400 watts. The Klipsch logo is on the dust cover, which appears to be concave (and natural - I don't think it's pushed inbut I guess it could be). The magnets are round, the frame is stampedand doesn't have any vents on it. The cones are marked with thesenumbers: "0045" and "315". The speakers appear to be in good workingshape but I get about 30-36 ohms across them. The foam surrounds havebeen repaired with what appears to be silicon caulk and they couldprobably be replaced. Anyone have any idea where thesewoofers came from? What's their model number and specs? Will Klipschservice them? What are my options? Any recommendations on what theyshould be crossovered at? pics By the way, before you tell me these are crap, I should note that I paid $3 for both of them in the cabinet. STL
It appears the speakers have rubber surrounds (not foam ones like you mentioned). And it appears the rubber surround is in good shape on the one you pictured, so I'm not sure the speakers need any services unless you're hearing some voicecoil rub. Have you hooked the up to see how they sound? It's hard to say what model they might be from, but it's pretty safe assumption to say their likely from a Heritage line (or may the Professional line). Typically there is a number on the back of the magnet that might shed more light on what they're from. BTW, I don't think they are crap. longdrive03
Looks like someone colored in the Klipsch emblem on the dust cap. Is it concave or just "caved in"? Photo the rear and post it so we can see. Any numbers on the magnet. BTW where was the auction and was it all Klipsch stuff?
longdrive03
Almost forgot. If you can save them and need new dust caps let me know. I have some new unused 4 1/2" dust caps with the Klipsch emblem for sale.
Mabu
There's nothing on the back of the speakers except some hand writing that says "400 watts". They do look ugly; the voice coil does not appear to be rubbing - yes they have rubber surrounds - my mistake. Anyone know what the recommended crossover frequency might be for these? Anyone have any other info to identify them? Is it normal for the magnets to not be completely centered? The auction where I picked these up was basically a liquidation auction of some unpaid storage containers. This was the only Klipsch stuff there. fastlane
They look to me like the woofers from a pair of Sw-12 subs.
