new buyer of klipschorns need advice on set up

Hi, I am buying khorns and was wondering if

anyone had some cd's they would recomend

for me in showing off some of the sound.

Buying khorns not having ever heard them before.

I have 7.1 amp with klipsch speakers in the rear.

I do not have a tube type amp.

I do have a 9.1 integra amp. 135 watts per.

Another question is: Do I need some

special wires from the amp to the speakers

such as: kimber cable?

I have some 12 guage wire now.

It is just plain good speaker wire nothing special.

I hope I have good luck with these speakers.

I have a rectangle room and only sit about 8 ft.

from the corners. The room is 27 ft long

but the speakers will have to go on the short walls

only about 13 ft apart. The room is eight ft high

and has only one small door opening about 15 ft from the right speaker.

the walls are very solid.

I will read comments tomorrow.

Thank you for your help. marlan

Welcome and don't be shy, ask questions, most people here will not bite. [:|]

I would play whatever CD is your favorite first and see how it sounds, then go from there, the better the recording the better the sound, even more so with Khorns.

As far as wires, me I would stick with what you already have, you said 12 ga plain good wire, good enough IMO.

Others will comment on the room size, don't sound perfect but not terrible being you sit closer to the speaker end. I said others will comment because I don't have Khorns and they are a little more particular about placement than others.

I would think you are going to love them.

You will probably get more replies about this in 2 channel.

Thank you.

I was afraid I would not have enough room for

klipschorns and nearly got some cornwalls.

But if they don't work I guess I could sell them.

I am going to need a center channel now.

I was going to look for a rf-7 or klf-7 or rc-62

rf-3 ones like that. but now that I read another forum

I suppose i'll look for a heresy and try to point it upward???

Thanks alot for you nice input! Marlan

Congratulations on the K-Horns!

You might want to spend some time making sure the cabinets are snug in the corners. Have a look at previous threads on "pipe foam" and "false corners" (if necessary).

My experience (for 2-channel listening) was that the biggest changes (sometimes improvements) with the K-Horns were (in order): 1) snug them into the corners using pipe foam, 2) placement along the longer wall and making sure the listening chair was on-axis with the K-Horns, 3) addition of the center channel (Cornwall), 4) refreshing the caps on 20 year old crossovers 5) swapping amps, 6) cleaning the oxidation off the various connections. Interestingly, items 1, 2 4, 6 were never more than $20 and item 5 was mostly an issue of finding an amp that is quiet (while at rest or producing very little power). Others will have different priorities and different recommendations.

Good Luck,

-Tom

Thank you,

I'm not sure my room would have been the best because I need these to be on the short wall about 13 ft" apart. I have never heard klipschorns before.. Maybe someone near emporia kansas can give me a listen because I just found out I lost mine to ebay!!!!!!

I had went and got a large loan yesterday lined out a truck to borrow for bringing them back.

I had high bid on the speakers and was not going to lose them at all.. !!!!!

The man selling had nearly 4000 feedback at 99.9

I have 600 myself. so I thought I was safe but he ended the auction early.

They were 1994's so now i'm done my heart just fell through the floor.

I had been reading these forums for two months and finally signed up

and was ready to begin this. But now it's over.

I feel your pain. I won an ebay auction for a pair of Khorns myself sometime back only to find that the seller was selling the same pair twice. Thanks to a forum member I did not lose any money on the sale. I was able to find another pair, just takes some patience. I'd say the market is down right now so you may be able to get a good price if someone puts another pair on the market. Patience will pay off. [D]
