bluesboy
Hey, have any of you guys ever tried a Kailin amp? I found a deal on a Kalin WWD14-Nd. It uses four EL-84's and three 12AU7 tubes. It has three line inputs; aux, cd and dvd. I'm wondering if it would be posible to run a tape player through the aux input.
jt1stcav
I've never used a Kailin, but I'm assuming you can "play" cassettes thru a cassette deck connected via the Aux line-in input. You won't be able to record on your deck since there's no line-out jacks thru Aux, though.
bluesboy
Thanks Jim, That's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure I'd be able to run my reel to reel through it.
jt1stcav
You're welcome. I have the same situation with my tube line stage preamp...the selector switch only has 3 inputs for Aux, CD, and Tape (and only 3 pairs of input jacks). Since there's no Tape output RCA jacks, I can't record on my Nakamichi deck, but that's okay since I haven't made a recording with it since '99, long before I bought this particular preamp. If you still like to make recordings on your reel-to-reel, you may want to consider another integrated amp.
jt1stcav
I see from your profile you have the 10" RT-909. Nice! My dad owned the smaller 7" RT-707 which was a superb deck. Wish he hadn't sold it years ago...I would've liked it (my budget won't allow such purchases right now).
bluesboy
No problem. I can still record tapes at Tarheel's. Might have to buy him some whiskey though.
seti
I was looking at that Kainlin as well. Please let us know how you like it.
bluesboy
Yeah, I'll let you know. It will probably be at least a week before it gets here. Right now I'm getting ready to watch Clapton Crossroads Guitar Fest 07 that I got on sale at Best Buy today. Thanks for the heads up Old Buckster! bluesboy
The Kailin amp got here today in good shape. Hooked up the 9000es and played Miles Davis Kind of Blue. Sounds pretty good. The Kailin seems somewhat faster than my Fisher X-100. The Kailin has a very slight hum, but not at all noticable when playing music. Right now I'm listening to Neil Young's Massey Hall concert on the Pioneer reel to reel through the aux input. Sounds pretty damn good for a 200.00 amp. I think next I'll try Crossroads Guitar Fest disc two.
bluesboy
Here's a shot of the Kailin. Kind of funky looking.
bluesboy
Here's another shot. Seems like a lot of bang for the buck.
oldbuckster
$200. for that seems pretty good, that's intergrated .........Time will be the best test ..... looks pretty good to me, but it's the sound that counts..
seti
So how does it sound?
PositivAttitude
Dang!!! Did the manufacturer have a problem identifying their product ?
bluesboy
How does it sound? Compared to my Fisher so far I'd have to say so far that the Kailin has a little tighter bass and seems a little faster. That being said it's hard to beat the mids from the X-100. One thing that stands out is gain on the Kailin. Last night I played the new Clapton dvd and just two clicks up on the volume was enough to rattle the windows. I'll have to listen awhile to reach a final conclusion. Maybe Tarheel will come by this weekend and lend his expert opinion.
bluesboy
Yeah, like I said it's funky looking. The box is made of oak. Can't tell if it's solid or plywood without removing the bottom. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow and post a picture. The front panel looks like plexiglass. It lights up when you turn it on.
bluesboy
No kidding Mark. It's like a minuture light show. Maybe you could incorperate this feature in your next design!
Johnny dB
The older Kailins had an etched blue face on them and when they'd light up, it looked like neon.
oldbuckster
Is that Kailin Intergrated pre-owned, or new, or did I miss that somewhere ???
