The SONG, living in the past was recorded in a studio while on tour in the US, everyone knows the lp is a mix of live and studio stuff from various times, locations, etc. I figured that based on the expertise that you were attempting to convey you would know that song was recorded in a studio in New Jersey in the midst of thier US tour. The point was that they were in fact in the US long before they started playing songs from TAAB while on tour.

Their tours, every show, nearly every set list, are available on the web, so is that where you go to sound like you know what you are talking about here? Did you ever go to one of their shows in the '70's? Have you been to one of their shows ever?

You said that TAAB Tour was the first time people in the US had an opportunity to see them. That is just flat wrong. Those little "roller rinks" on the East and West coast JT played have names-- like the Fillmore West and the Fillmore East. Have you ever been to either one of them? A band didn't play in either of those long lost temples unless you were someone. The fact is that they were seen by a lot of people well before TAAB. They were touring with the likes of The Dead, Yes, Butterfield Blues Band, etc., etc. before TAAB. Were they as big as they were ever going to get? Of course not, but that is not what you said. You are trying to come off as some expert that has been to all of these Tull shows, over all of these years, and saying they didn't tour, or hardly at all, before TAAB came out. You don't play the LA forum with Yes as your opening act unless you can draw a crowd, I can assure you.

Is your point that you meant to say that their first Big/Major/Stadium tour was with TAAB? While one could argue about that point I suppose, one thing for certain is there was plenty of time for a lot of people to see them in the US by the time TAAB had come out.

The fact is, Tull did not just shoot out of the cannon an arena band! And their US exposure was much more limited than some seem to believe, playing primarily small venues and a (comparably) limited schedule of US dates prior to the last months of fall '71. Their European touring schedule beginning early on in their career (and continuing thereafter) was much more substantial, albeit hampered by Mick Abraham's early 'travel issues'. And they were definately a visually oriented show long before video became the rule.

Let's see, I stated that Living in the Past was a compilation. It was. Living in the Past is also the name of a major release. Look it up on your website.

It was a major change in both the touring block bookings featuring a widespread US exposure in areas other than the coasts and Detroit and it was the first tour booked primarily into large venues.

And they never toured in the US before that? I said that? Their touring of the US was much more restricted prior to Aqualung, and in particular Thick as a Brick. FACT.

For all of the hype and mysticism associated with the Fillmores, the Warehouse, Winterland, etc. they were still small format venues!.

And a large number of shows were literally booked into ROLLER RINKS. Those are venues where, when they were not hosting concerts, featured people roller skating. Perhaps that is why their names wer e places like the "Alexandria Roller Rink". Am I going to fast? Now I better understand the nom de plume...You might want to give it a break...

LOL! Actually, I think it was 2 guys in a zebra suit. It was damn funny though!

Even though they had just released Too Old To R&R, it doesn't seem by that set list that they were promoting the album much. They played the title song during the late winter, a couple months before the release of the LP. That is Grateful Dead-like!

It means that prior to the Thick as a Brink tour, the vast majority of the country could not have seen them as their tour dates were limited primarily to the northeast, the west coat and to the Detroit and Chicago areas in the Midwest. You might want to grab hold of an atlas. There is a bit more of the US than those limited areas.

With the Thick as a Brick tour, this geographic limitation ceased! FACT.

You might want to grab hold of an atlas. There is a bit more of the US than those limited areas.

I would say that you are more in need of one then me. Texas, Fla., etc., etc. You are right, not much of the country had an opportunity to see them before TAAB came out. Keep going, I'm loving it.

BTW, Among those group stage passes scanned are those for the Passion Play, Minstrel In the Gallery (Alex Harvey 75 - as we resorted to using theirs for some reason, I can't remember why exactly ), and Stormwatch tours. Additionally, there are a few from Poco, and the Elton John Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Bette Midler Divine Miss M, Pointer Sisters where I also did work as well as the myriad other shows where we were brought in as hired guns such as in the Lynrd Skynard and Leon Russell shows (and yes, someone during the mid 70's had the brilliant(sic) idea of using buttons that hung on everything!). Also there is a Hot Tuna laminate pass representative of when someone finally came to their senses and developed a reasonable pass format. ..Yes, that is an Elvis crew stage pass from 74.

I have more stashed, but the truth is that few of the total number of passed used survived, first because they were applied to the thigh of the jeans each night, and second because they were often given to 'guests' as we really didn't have too much of a problem getting in...Besides, by the time of soundgheck, you already knew most of the primary facility operation folks.

So which Tull "shows" did I attend? Lets see... not including those in 71, from 72 - 79 quite a few! Shows are included in "tours", right? Not bad for working and attending school gerrymandered in betwen obligations. So, did your website provide any insight into just which one was Jethro? I always figured that he was the guy who played the flute.

They are stage access passes that the band members and production (ie 'sound') crew (hint, hint) used each night of the tour! Now why would I have them? Hmmm... ? You see, some of us were there, and we didn't have to buy tickets....or search websites, I can't go much slower...

In fact, it was when affiliated that I first made contact with Don Keele, when with Klipsch ,in the process of evaluating mid-range horns as a possible option as Bob Heil was becoming swamped with business and obligations. .and listening to a private demo of what was them referred to as the Motengator system -.as I best recall it being refrred t.

I saw them in March of 80 in Hanover, Germany, and still have the scarf from that concert. I remember they put on a great show!

What do I know compared to your website?

Apparently not much. You said that until TAAB was the first opportunity for most of the US to see them. Then you backtracked by saying what you meant by that was up 'till that point they were only on the West Coast (read California), East Coast and Det., and it was not until TAAB that they played major venues and the american hearland. Then tour history shows you were wrong again, in just the prior year they played all over the US.

Now, because you have some backstage passes from Hot Tuna and Bette Middler you are some sort of expert on Jethro Tull. Did you work security, help carry cable around, or did you stir the chili at the back stage buffet? You still are dead wrong about how much they toured and where they toured before TAAB came out.
