JOHN GALT
I just bought a HD-CRT for my two channel. I have a oppo unit and a play station 3 (PS-3) that have HDMI outputs, so last night I bought a HDMI splitter and hooked it up to the back of the tv. One cable then goes to the back of the oppo the other to the back of the PS-3. It does not work. I assumed that as long as one of the two was not sending a signal to the tv that everything would be fine, not the case. It will not even work with the units turned off, I checked the cables separately, the splitter I checked each side separately and they work fine. So my question is: What am I doing wrong. I assume that one must be able to hook up a simple splitter opposed to a $200 box to do what I want to do. Any advice suggestions, similar experience? Blvdre
A splitter won't switch either of your sources out of the circuit. It's use would be to run the output of one source (split it) out to two TVs. You need a "two in, one out" type box. A cheap version of this would utilize a mechanical switch, and should be fairly cheap (sub $30). Here's an example on e-bay (sorry for the cut-and-paste, for some reason, the link icon is disabled) http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-3-Port-HDMI-Cable-Switch-Switcher-Selector-Splitter_W0QQitemZ300225945189QQihZ020QQcategoryZ73390QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Spongeworthy
I am far from a techie and don't have any solutions to your current splitter as I have never tried one. I use the Oppo HM-31 and it's only a $99 box. Buy in from Amazon and you'll get free shipping as well. 3 inputs/1 output and very simple. http://oppodigital.com/hm31/

Blvdre
...I almost added, "but some mistakes sure can be costly..." [:|]
JJkizak
And keep in mind there is HDMI 1, 2, 3.1, and the beat goes on. Same with the cables. Some of the switchers are very expensive. JJK
Mallette
I suspect you get a wealth of response and advice from the HT Forum. Dave
