weinstock
Greetings everyone! I am in the process of putting together my first 'real' home theater. Due to the size constraints of the room, the center and surround speakers, have to be the R-5502-W In wall speakers. I have no other choice. I do not know what would be the best front speaker and subwoofer combination that will complement these in-wall speakers. It seems there are too many tower/shelf speakers and subwoofers choices available. My AV receiver is a Denon 3808 ci. Any suggestion/help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. dvcdude
weinstock - Welcome to the Klipsch Community! In order for us to help with your options, we will need some additional information. You state that you have constraints of the room. Could you expand on that statement? What are the dimensions LxWxH and any other constraints? Will you be 100% movies - 50/50 movies and music? How low do you want your subwoofer to go? And any other information about your listening habits would help. Good Luck in your pursuit, Dave
weinstock
Thanks for the reply Dave. The listening area of the room is roughly about 15' x 20'; however, it is a great room that opens up to the kitchen area. The ceilings in the room are vaulted, about 16 feet high. It is a very open area with narrow walls (almost column like). The room has a built-in drywall entertainment center with a fireplace right underneath the TV. The only center speaker that fits this configuration is an in-wall on the drywall fireplace mantle. I am hoping for 50/50 music/movies. I am a newbie at this, so I have no clue how low a subwoofer should go. I think it would be mainly used for movies. Let me know if this is enough info. Thanks for your help. darkside
Weinstock, welcome to the forums. I can't really make a recommendation on main speakers since I've only ever owned a pair of Klipsch RF-15s, but for the subwoofer, and I hate to recommend something that isn't Klipsch on the Klipsch forums, but I've always recommended an Earthquake Supernova of whatever size you can fit in your room. They're ported via a passive radiator and are usually tuned to about 17hz so they'll go plenty low for movies and also sound very good for music. I've had a Supernova MK-IV 10 for about 3-4 years now and I love it. I picked mine up off Ebay for about 400 bucks. Took a gamble that paid off big time in my opinion. Except for the occasional subwoofer I'll make myself, I'll never use anything else. Here's Earthquake's page. Hope this helps and good luck on your search! Just FYI, a budget is always good to know too! http://www.earthquakesound.com/ The Supernova page specifically: http://www.earthquakesound.com/supernova15.htm
jamesV
Weinstock, Any chance that you can upload some pictures of the room? Klipsch does have some really nice flat speakers for wall mounting. http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/rvx-42.aspx. What kind of budget are you looking for the front main speakers and subwoofer? BTW, Welcome to the family. Last thing, where are you located? James
seasterl
What's the budget? I have Heresy III atop Sound Anchor four-post stands and not running them full range. The limited bandwidth frees them up for vocals, etc. better without requiring them to produce bass. I use a Bag End S18E-I sub, Velodyne SMS-1 bass processor, Camco (damping factor >400!) proaudio amp for the sub, and also use the Bag End processor for more bass and a Pioneer Elite receiver. The coherence is as good as it gets and everything is perfectly matches. (I can even change the EQ with the Velodyne!) On HT movies, the house literally shakes, but only at the frequencies I dictate, and on rock music, the visceral effects of the 18" subs is chest-pounding like it is at a concert. If you pick up these items second-hand, you can save yourself more money.
DrWho
The best choice? How about the RF-83 with an RT-12d subwoofer? Just walk down the product line until you find something in your price point:http://www.klipsch.com/products/lists/floorstanding.aspx http://www.klipsch.com/products/lists/subwoofer.aspx
Moderators Youthman Posted September 7, 2008 Moderators Share Posted September 7, 2008 The best choice? How about the RF-83 with an RT-12d subwoofer? I can vouch for the RF-83's. Amazing speakers for sure.
