Mallette
AmTrak definitely passes through Texarkana, which is only 32 miles via I30. I'll be staying there as my brother still inhabits our old ancestral mansion (all 1100 sq. ft.) I really don't know much about what accomodations are available in Hope these days, but there is plenty in Split T. Dave BTW - Blow off the negative comments unless you just don't like comfortable, quiet, scenic travel. Sure, they aren't always on time given the constraints placed on them by the freight lines, but if you enjoy it you won't care or will be glad. In any event, the conductor will know what time you are getting there and your cell phone will work just fine.
colterphoto1
I just took a train from Chicago to DC for LarryC's classical fest and it was a marvelous adventure. Look for 'Strathmore' thread in the 2 channel forum. I'd do it again in a heartbeat- large comfortable seats, lots of aisles to walk around in, sightseeing and diner car, take all the luggage you want, 120V plug at your seat for appliances, it's GREAT!
