bobdog
I have stumbled onto a pair of Chorus IIs in perfect condition for $600 I own two pairs of Forte IIs and love them. For those that have had or listened in detail to both, is there much to be gained by switching over to the Chorus other than eficiency? Is the sound much diferent? Better or worse? From the specs the Fortes actually go deeper in the bass. How is that possibile? The last thing I need is anouther pair of speakers but these sure seem like a good deal. what would you guys do? runninshine
I might be looking at the same pair you are bobdog. I had pretty much the same question. What the difference in Chorus IIs and cornwalls? I dont need anymore speakers, I need tube amps! .........but I would like to have the speakers too. fenderbender
From the limited time I've had listening to Chorus II's....they are a fuller sound compared to the fortes...approaching the cornwall....But I still prefer the cornwall... Very nice speakers in a slimmer package......where are you located? I know where a excellent ++ pair of chorus II's can be had for a good price...may even work a partial trade for one of your sets of forte's??? Dflip
Depends what you like to listen to, I have heard the fortes in a normal sized family room, 14 x 11 feet, and they sounded pretty good with old fashioned rock and roll and solid state. I haven't heard the Chorus, so I can't help you with that part of the equation.
DrWho
The Forte II does dig deeper, but it's at the expense of lowersensitivity and more distortion. The Forte II is also voiced a bit morethumpier than the Chorus II...the Chorus II has a religiously flat bassresponse. A lot of guys have noticed that the Chorus II sounds betterwith lower output impedance amplifiers...some of that is better woofercontrol and another part of that is having an easier time driving thecomplex impedance. I don't know what the impedance of the Forte IIlooks like, but I would expect it to be nearly identical in the MF/HF(which is where some of the squirleyness is). Overall I thinkthe Chorus II is a better speaker, but I think most would initiallyprefer the tonality of the Forte II in a blind A/B comparison. Bothspeakers are using the same squawker and the tweeters are essentiallythe same, so the only difference is really the bass response. However, the larger cabinet of the Chorus II seems to give it a larger sound. When tri-amping, I don't think the Forte II would come close to the Chorus II, but that's opening another can of worms.
