JohnWB
Hi All, I am trying to pout together a 5.1surround sound system in a new greta room over my garage and am cluelessas to what to get for front speakers. I have a pair of RB-5 bookshelves that I have been using for years to listen to music and would like to incorporate them as the back speakers. I have a Harmon-Kardon AVR-85 receiver and do not want to break the bank on the rest of my speakers to complete the system. I would like speakers that sound good with the surround as well as with just music. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
SWL
A used pair of RF-5's.......or a used pair of RB-5's. Keep an eye on the Garage Sale of this forum.
Moderators Youthman Posted November 20, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 20, 2008 Depending on budget, you could even go with the RF-3 line.
JohnWB
So I could potentially use RG-5's for the fronts and the rears? As well, Is 550.00 a good price for a used pair of RF-3's in good condition?
Moderators Youthman Posted November 20, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 20, 2008 What is your budget? This might be an option.
JohnWB
The budget is somewhre between 500.00 to 1000.00 for everything. I have the receiver and the RB-5's. So I would need fronts, a center and a sub I guess for under 1K.
Moderators Youthman Posted November 20, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 20, 2008 Where are you located? I believe Noah still has a complete RF-3 package for sale that will work within your budget.
Moderators Youthman Posted November 20, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 20, 2008 Also, www.craigslist.com is your friend. That's where I have found all most all of my current equipment and got each of them at a great price.
JohnWB
I am in CT. I have been checking e-bay and Craig's list incessantly lately but seem to be wasting my time becasue I don't know what the heck I'm looking for. I saw some Cornwall III's on e-bay and have read that they're awesome but the bidding has gotten high for my budget. Where is Noah??

InVeNtOr
how big is the room? a complete rf-3 II system would be awesome. if you can find it a rf-5/ rc-7 would be a little better. then of course if you can find some rf-7's thats awesome too. try www.audiogon.com they usually have some great deals. sometimes www.videogon.com will have some lurking around. Moderators Youthman Posted November 20, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 20, 2008 No doubt. RF-5's or RF-3's would probably work great for him.
kelA
Just to reinforce what some of the others are saying, the RF3's DO work great. That is my setup as you can see from my equipment listing.
