  1. Sounds like the real deal. Cornwall Birch Lacquered finish I think, based on CBL. Serial number indicates they were made in 84. I have a pair from 87. Nice speakers for stereo and not too shabby for HT. Mike.
  2. I have a KP61HS10. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. It is 61", HDTV, RPTV. It is a 4x3 set, but is capable of 16x9 HDTV. Whenever a 1080i signal is sent to the TV, it automatically adjusts the aspect ratio to 16x9. In August the HS30 comes out. The only advantage that I have seen on the 30 is 2 digital component video inputs and its internal line doubler will do 3:2 pulldown. It accepts 480i ( upconverts to 960i ), 480P, and 1080i signals. As I said before, if you feed it 1080i, it automatically squeezes the picture to 16:9. Since it supports 480P, it is compatible with progressive scan DVD players as well. Another nice feature, you can hook you PC directly up to the RPTV if you have a monitor card support by Powerstrip software. I will be doing this next week. Hopefully watching DVDs at 960x540P from my HTPC. Price now adays around $2800 if you shop aggressively. If you want more info, I can send boatloads. Send me a private email. Mike.
  3. You can purchase the boards with the grill material for about $56 each. I almost bought a set last year when I purchased my Cornwall IIs. I thought for sure the grill would be trashed and would need replacment. But much to my surprise they were fine. I think parts is 1-800-Klipsch. Mike.
  4. Well, I may have found one. Email me if you are interested. It is an InLine Inc switch with a home grown remote solution that I have on paper right now. Should be $500 to $600 total for remote plus switch. Mike.
  5. Has anyone out there seen a component video switch that uses an IR remote for switching? I am looking for one that supports 4 devices in and 1 out. I have looked at several, but they are all lacking a remote method to change the input. Thanks, Mike.
  6. Indy Fan, My media/great room is 18x24, ceiling is 18ft high for whole room, not vaulted. TV is on the short wall. Cornwall mains about 1.5ft in on the short wall from the corners. Sony 61", using Academy center on top. Velodyne sub right next to the TV. Couch is about 14 ft from TV. Heresay IIs for surrounds on either side of couch. Rear wall of room is open ( on the first floor ) to the kitchen. The rear wall is closed on the 2nd floor. I have in walls for the surround EX on the back wall above the open area to the kitchen. I know the room sounds big, but it is 60% of the first floor. Since the family spends 90% of their time in the family room, that seemed appropriate. I would not change a thing, except maybe running more 3/4" conduit to house all those darn cables. Also my sons room shares wall with the EX speakers, those tend to wake him up. Sometimes you have to make compromises. Mike.
  7. The Denon 4800 is awesome. I am sure the 5800 is better if you can afford it. Mike.
  8. Bob, Count me in on a tour when you arrange it. I can get there in 90 minutes, less if I have to. You still want to trade K-Horns for stock options. Maybe the options will be worth something by the time you have the tour. Mike.
  9. Thanks for all the info. It looks like I will still be going with a custom cabinet. Not much in the traditional furniture style that will accommodate my 61" Sony RPTV and my Velodyne CT-150 sub in the lower cabinet. Not to mention the Academy immediately above the TV. The piece that is particularly hard to find is a cloth and wood cover to go over the base of the RPTV to give it that built in wall unit look. I think this is a hole in the HT furniture market. On the other hand I can understand the MFGs not wanting to build a unique cover for every RPTV out there. Diamond Case was the only MFG that I saw with this feature. Thanks for everyone's help. Now I have to figure out how to trim 1K out of my custom cabinet. Looks like the wife will have to settle for less nick nack shelves..... You know I am not giving up a single component shelf.
  10. Thanks! I have looked at about 1/2 of these, but not the other half. I will let you know if I find any winners. I finally called Diamond Case. Nice stuff, high quality, very electronics minded, slightly pricey. Mike.
  11. I just saw your post on the EPIC drivers. I also notice you are in Illionis. I used to live in Chicago. You know the driver re cone I told you about, Van L SpeakerWorks in Chicago did it about 10 years ago. They did a great job. Run it by them before you buy new drivers. Mike.
  12. One of the things that I highly value in Klipsch speakers is the ability to purchase a driver, or a horn diaphragm at a very reasonable price. Speakers are not overly complicated devices. You can figure out what the problem is and fix it yourself in most cases at less than $100. This is not always the case, especially in the higher end speakers where the drivers new are well over $100 each. So should a problem occur, it is not going to cost a fortune to fix it. To put it another way, the cost of your risk for purchasing used speakers is probably $100 should it actually break. Note that is a big if. That was my justification when I purchased my used Klipsch speakers. I also have a pair of LaSalas that have been running fine since 79, but I did have to have the driver re coned. So I have invested $175 for 22 years of service. What is broke? I am sure we can point you in the right direction to fix it yourself for a reasonable price. Go to the parts list and see how much each of the drivers are for your speaker, make sure you price the diaphragm kits not the replacement horn, they are significantly less. Add it all up and that is the worst case for repairing the speaker. Although I have to tell you I have never ever seen multiple drivers fail at once. It is almost always the tweeter. That is probably the least expensive to fix. Mike.
  13. I really appreciate the offer, but if you could just post the manufacturers names that would be more than sufficient. If you have web addresses, that would be fantastic. I would hate to think that someone spent money out of their own pocket to help me out. I am happy just to get a little of your time and knowledge. Thanks, Mike.
  14. Guys, Thanks for the URLs. I took a look, but most of the furniture will not work for me. I need a really large bottom cabinet to hide the sub. The lower cabinet door must be cloth for the sub. My wife would kill me on the perforated steel. I also want something to be under the screen of the RPTV where the speaker is, giving it the appearance that the screen is built into the bookcase. I am still interested in what Home Depot has to offer, and I will take a look. HD really does do everything. I still keep going back to the Diamond Case one though. Wish I could see one. Mike.
  15. Does anyone have any links to Home Theater furniture? I was looking at having a custom cabinet built, but it has a 4K+ price tag. I would rather spend the extra money on a progressive scan DVD and a Pronto remote. I am looking for a quality cabinet, mostly hardwood, that either is adjustable or the mfg can scale it to your requirements. One company I have been looking at is Diamond Case http://www.diamondcase.com/. Does anyone have any experience with them? There is no dealer near me to look at them. Thanks, Mike.
  16. Denon has a universal remote, but I think for $140, I would be buying a Phillips Pronto, which you can get for about 280. The new TSU2000 has a database of products built into the remote, and I bet the Denon player is already in there. Check http://www.remotecentral.com/ and ask if anyone can check it for you. Mike.
  17. You can get a DVDO IScan for $800 or less. They come in 3 models. You will find reviews are sites around the net. Also the new DVD-2800 player from Denon has the DVDO IScan chip built into it for $800 list. This player was just released. They had some problems with the first shipment, but all indications are that it will be a great player. I would still wait a few weeks before ordering to verify all the kinks are worked out. Mike.
  18. I have a Denon AVR-4800 which will decode prologic, DD, THX EX, whatever you throw at it. I have never seen more than a digital 2 channel audio signal on any cable I have seen. I take the digital audio stream directly out of the cable box and pipe it into my receiver. I suspect they pay per view may be 5 channel DD. But everything else is 2 channel pro logic. By the way I posed this question to Time Warner, as to when they would support DD on digital cable. They have conveniently chosen not to answer. Even though the first line rep got back to me 6 times asking if 2nd level support had answered my question. Sounds like it will be pro logic for some time. Mike.
  19. I find that most individuals are kind of interested to a point. But it really does not matter what the subject is. When you start talking in acronyms or unfamiliar language, people just stop listening. Lets face it, when you are passionate about a technical subject you start talking another language pretty quickly. With just a few exceptions, when I talk about any of the things I am interesting in, be it stereo, HT, computers, data communications you always get the deer in the headlights look. That is unless the individual thinks they can leverage your knowledge to fix one of their problems. Mike.
  20. They look about the same size as my LaScalas. I would say they are deceiving with the grill on them though. It makes them look a little thinner. Maybe the guy played with the aspect ratio on the picture. Mike.
  21. I use an Academy. If you can find one, it works very well. Mike.
  22. Just buy the diaphram, it is real easy to replace. A friend of mine blew one on a Chorus II when his little one had the volume full blast and he then turned on the receiver with source set to radio. It takes about $20 for the diaphram kit, and you can do it yourself. I would point you to a thread that described it in detail, but it looks like the thread was deleted from the system. Mike.
  23. FYI, I was looking for a thread that I started last year. In doing my research, it looks like all posts prior to 2/1/01 are missing, but only on this forum. You can test this by changing the date range shown to all posts. You will see only 3 pages listed, the last one being 2/1/01. I have a post in the Klipsch Website forum asking what happened. My guess is that it was due to volume and disk space concerns. I hope that information is not lost, that would be a waste. Mike.
  24. I think they are. It looks like someone fashioned a grill to cover the entire speaker front. I have thought about doing that over the years. It certainly makes them look a little better. It also looks like they have corner molding all around them, probably required to match the modifications for the speaker grill. At first I thought they were copies, but the sticker in the back and the mid horn looks to me like a real Klipsch. I did notice the xover is on the other side, my LaScalas have them on the left side. Mike.
  25. Are there any there any pictures of those puppies from the trip? I have heard a lot about them, but I have never seen a picture. I may have glossed over them in the pictures that were already posted. Let me know which one if this is the case. Mike.
