  1. We have the Apple TV and like it a lot. Didn't think about it but that's an option as well I guess even without a TV. You can use your iphone to control it.
  2. The Quartet, Forte and Chorus sound a lot alike, they just give bigger sound as you move up the line. Forte's would make an amazing choice in your theater room and yes you still need a sub for LFE in movies. As for a center channel, they made the Academy but I would personally go with three Forte's across the front if it's a possibility in your room.
  3. Wow! I had no idea they cost that much, what in the world... I bought mine brand new for $350 or so at the most a few years back. Scratch that idea!
  4. The Squeezebox Touch let's you do Pandora or whatever you want via wifi and it will also let you stream your personal music right off your computer via wifi. It's a nifty little box. It has Spotify, Pandora, Radionomy, Rhapsody, Slacker, SiriusXM and many more apps. So that's another option, look for a nice vintage or modern two channel stereo receiver and a Squeezebox Touch.
  5. Is the URC the one that you need a tech to program for you?
  6. I used these as well with my RB-75's, work great, look great and they are not expensive.
  7. Those speakers look awesome, nothing like brand new gear! I can smell them from here! Yes like Youth said, best to use the Marantz crossover and set the sub all the way so you don't lose any sound. Too bad forums aren't like Facebook, I catch myself wanting to "like" people's pics lol.
  8. I'm glad you're happy with the B&K but I have to say I don't buy it. There has been a lot of hot chatter on the E-mail circuit over the past couple of months about the Steve Maki and Steve Zipser challenge in Miami. I thought you would appreciate a complete recount of the events. Zipser, a high-end salon owner, had issued a challenge that he would pay the airplane fare of any interested party who wanted to see him prove he could hear the differences between amplifiers. On Sunday afternoon, August 25th, Maki and I arrived at Zipser's house, which is also Sunshine Stereo. Maki brought his own control unit, a Yamaha AX-700 100-watt integrated amplifier for the challenge. In a straight 10-trial hard-wired comparison, Zipser was only able to identify correctly 3 times out of 10 whether the Yamaha unit or his pair of Pass Laboratories Aleph 1.2 monoblock 200-watt amplifiers was powering his Duntech Marquis speakers. A Pass Labs preamplifier, Zip's personal wiring, and a full Audio Alchemy CD playback system completed the playback chain. No device except the Yamaha integrated amplifier was ever placed in the system. Maki inserted one or the other amplifier into the system and covered them with a thin black cloth to hide identities. Zipser used his own playback material and had as long as he wanted to decide which unit was driving the speakers. I had matched the playback levels of the amplifiers to within 0.1 dB at 1 kHz, using the Yamaha balance and volume controls. Playback levels were adjusted with the system preamplifier by Zipser. I also determined that the two devices had frequency response differences of 0.4 dB at 16 kHz, but both were perfectly flat from 20 Hz to 8 kHz. In addition to me, Zipser, and Maki, one of Zip's friends, his wife, and another person unknown to me were sometimes in the room during the test, but no one was disruptive and conditions were perfectly quiet. As far as I was concerned, the test was over. However, Zipser complained that he had stayed out late the night before and this reduced his sensitivity. At dinner, purchased by Zipser, we offered to give him another chance on Monday morning before our flight back North. On Monday at 9 a.m., I installed an ABX comparator in the system, complete with baling-wire lead to the Yamaha. Zipser improved his score to 5 out of 10. However, my switchpad did develop a hang-up problem, meaning that occasionally one had to verify the amplifier in the circuit with a visual confirmation of an LED. Zipser has claimed he scored better prior to the problem, but in fact he only scored 4 out of 6 before any difficulties occurred. His wife also conducted a 16-trial ABX comparison, using a 30-second phrase of a particular CD for all the trials. In this sequence I sat next to her at the main listening position and performed all the amplifier switching functions according to her verbal commands. She scored 9 out of 16 correct. Later another of Zip's friends scored 4 out of 10 correct. All listening was done with single listeners. In sum, no matter what you may have heard elsewhere, audio store owner Steve Zipser was unable to tell reliably, based on sound alone, when his $14,000 pair of class A monoblock amplifiers was replaced by a ten-year old Japanese integrated amplifier in his personal reference system, in his own listening room, using program material selected personally by him as being especially revealing of differences. He failed the test under hardwired no-switching conditions, as well as with a high-resolution fast-comparison switching mode. As I have said before, when the answers aren't shared in advance, "Amps Is Amps" even for the Goldenest of Ears. 9. In the pic you can see a box with a Marantz 7007 on top of the RF-7 II's.
  10. Awesome! That's what I call jumping in head first! Welcome to the forums and the Klipsch family. I think you would be hard pressed to find a better sounding setup for movies. Let us know how it sounds! As for neighbors, I hope they are cool! The last time I lived in a condo I was blessed with cool neighbors that never said a word.
  11. Yeah, I don't see those selling anytime soon lol.
  12. All the time, I love to demo my system for people when they come over as well but I'm guilty of popping in a movie just to watch a few minutes of it to "wow" myself from time to time. [] I pop in random movies that I know have a great sound track. I have a few hundred blu-rays so it's totally random.
  13. B&K was at the top of my list for amps about 10 years ago but they went out of business before I was ready to buy. After this thread I decided to look them up and it appears they were bought out and the brand is either back or on it's way back to market. Very good news IMO. When I first joined this forum 10 years ago B&K was one of the highest praised amps for Klipsch speakers.
  14. Very nice furniture and I don't know if I'm surprised by your finding or not. B&W is no slouch IMO. I heard some of their larger speakers a few years ago, I think they were 800, 801, 802, whatever the big round ones are. I thought they sounded great. The Forte has a 12" woofer with a 15" passive though just an FYI. I'm surprised it didn't produce much bass. I guess I've never had one out of a corner though now that I think about it.
  15. Here you go, not a lot of details but a quick look at Jade Design link and the brands they own.
  16. Absolutely, it's been used by people with a gimmick. Emotiva is not a gimmick, they are the first major brand in the audio world using this business plan and it works. I think it's an awesome business plan giving people the chance to buy at a much lower price. I guess you can't seem to understand their business plan, you're way too caught up in the price and you're letting your mind get the best of you. First of all you're not comparing apples to oranges when you put Emotiva against other manufacturers. Do some research is all I can tell you. No scam here, they have been a wide open book for all to see since day one. Emotiva used to manufacture for a few different well known much higher priced brands. The same brands that people like you think are WAY better because they cost more which means they MUST sound better. That's called the placebo effect and companies like Bose bank on it to move their little cubes at outrageous prices. I don't know if Emotiva still manufactures for anyone else or not. I'm no Emotiva fan boy by any means, they have units that have issues just like anyone else but they have some of the best customer service in the business and they take care of their customers. I just recognize a good deal when I see one and after buying a few products I realized they are the real deal just like most people who have bought from them. When people come on this forum "link" who own Krell amps and say their Emotiva sounds good and it's staying in the rack, that's the proof in the pudding. Krell is up there close to the top of the hill when it comes to high end audio. I know Emotiva isn't the best of the best but they are without a doubt one of the best bang for the buck deals when buying new audio gear. Back to the original post, Parasound makes an awesome amp as does Emotiva. Figure out your budget and you can't go wrong either way IMO.
  17. That's called the placebo effect. It's been proven time and time again.
  18. The reason they are less expensive is because they do something no other manufacturer does. When you buy a Parasound amp, it is made in China. The same goes for the bulk of amps out there. The difference is, the Parasound then goes thru the normal distribution chains that all add their profit onto the amp and by the time you get it, it costs $1500-$2000 more than it would if you bought it right off the boat. Emotiva owns their own factory in China. They sell their product themselves online so they cut out all those middle men and bring you the same quality product as 90% of the amps out there at a much better price. I have three Emotiva amps, two XPA-5's and one XPA-2. They have been hooked up to RF-7's, Forte's, Forte ll's and Chorus ll's and I've never had any hiss or hum that was audible more than a few feet from the speaker. You can't hear anything at any seating position that's for sure.
  19. Thank you sir! Yes and no, our cake maker is making us a new top next month instead of eating one we froze a year ago. It was our option to freeze it or have her make a new one and we chose for a new one! Yumm, fresh new cake coming soon! The lady makes good cakes, they aren't just looks, they taste amazing.
  20. Good product at a good price?
  21. You are correct, if your tv has an out then you will need to run the audio out to the AVR. Your tv is using wifi to use those apps, the cable box has nothing to do with it if you have it setup like I do.
  22. We watched this last night, very impressed! Great audio/video, tons of great LFE.
  23. Yep! That's the day we were married! Good eye! ; )
