  1. Whatever they are they look pretty darn cool! Josh
  2. There is nothing about the spin clean that would suggest that any other cleaner wold do a better job. I have a nitti gritty but I used to clean my records in the snk ising a method that is close to what the spin clean does. Believe me, if I had know about the spin clean I never would have bought the fancy one! Josh
  3. Hello Audible, Congrats! on your New preamp/tuner. I had a MX 110 for while and probably should have had it refurbished as I missed the detail of a modern preamp. Good luck with those MC30s. I have followed your tale on the Mcintosh forum as well. Sounds like you re prety close to Nirvana. BTW I had Terry refurbish my MC6100 ( a solid state integrated) and his cost was $107.00 Very Very resonable. I couldnt get anyone locally to even give me an estimate for less than 70 bucks! josh
  4. This HiFi stuff is exasperating. Since I am buying the new Clearaudio, I took my cartidge out of the VPI and left it with the shop I am buying the clearaudio from. So I am sitting here listening to a record ( the latest and last Warren Zevon) on a pioneer PL -71 A direct drive (fairly expensive when new) TT that I picked up for peanuts. I have a GradoZ+ in it. I have to admit it sounds GREAT!!! Kind of makes me wonder about investing big dough in a fancy TT set up. I said Kind of! Josh
  5. Guy, That one on ebay could be a good deal but I dont think its a MK 1V. It looks to me like it has a flat black wood plinth. It also doesnt appear that it has the seperate armboard. Also It has the white/clear platter. The Mark 1V has a black platter. I only point this out to prevent folks form bidding on something thinking its something that its not (did that make sense!?). Josh
  6. Here is a photo of the TT. I am happy that someone from the forum willl get this - Gary or another member. Should know tomorrow. Guy, I have purchased a Clearaudio Champion with a rewired Rega 250 arm. I have been lusting after the clearaudio for a while and decided to pull the trigger. This, however is a very fine TT And maybe Ill be disapointed. But I hoe not! Josh Craig The 299D sounds great. I havent had the time or opportunity to AB it with my MC225s but am looking for ward to doing so. I will let you all know what I think when I do! Josh
  7. I am going to put my VPI on audiogon/ebay but will offer it here in case anyone is interested. Its a HW 10 Mark IV go to http://www.vpiindustries.com/hw19.htm for the difference between the various HW 19 offerings. This is the top of the HW 19 line the main difference over the others is the acrylic plynth and armboard, the black Aires platters and the TNT springs for suspension. This arm is fitted with an Audioquest PT -6 arm and will not include the cartidge. Some additional info is that it has the box on the side so you can use fancy interconnects and will include two bases one in a light cherry the other is the black oak. I will sell it to a forum member for 650.00 I believe that the list w/o arm is $1800.00 (not that anyone has ever paid list) Anyway this unit is in good condition I bought it used and its been a solid performer. I will send pictures to anyone who is interested. Thanks josh
  8. I would hope that any auctionsniper lurkers have long since been blown by by this unbelievable feeding frenzy. Jeez you get a good Mac for what folks are willing to pay for this!! josh
  9. 44 ! I didnt realize you were a youngan! Happy Birthday. Thanks for everything. And if you want to feel your age go to http://www.frontiernet.net/~cdm/age1.html enter your birthday and be humbled! Once again Happy Birthday!!! Josh
  10. Gary, I may be alone in this POV, but of all the audio components, I would look to buy the TT from someone local. I also am in the process of looking for a TT and entertained the idea of looking for a Scout on ebay/audiogon etc. For whatever reason I feel more comfortable having a local shop stand behind something mechanical Maybe Im nuts but it feels different than an amp. I would feel the same however with a CD player. In looking locally I found a shop that carries both project and clearaudio. I have pretty much decided on the champion and a rewired Rega 250. Cost without cartridge will be 1700.00 set up etc. No shipping no waiting and a local guy to stand behind it. Josh
  11. second choice is " a hundred years from today" I dont know who wrote it, but hearing Teagarden sing it is the best. Actually hearing Jack sing just about anything is the best!
  12. waltz for debbie just about an¥ version that BE recorded Josh
  13. As a Elvis fan, I am looking forward to this CD as well. I understand that they wrote a number of the songs together. I will be interested in hearing something other than old standards (that quite honestly had been sung way better before) because I like her voice and style. Maybe Elvis will take her to the next level! josh
  14. Flynn and Craig in a car for how many hours? ... Who will do the listening? josh
  15. ---------------- On 4/13/2004 4:15:26 PM heretic wrote: Gullah, I understand your frustration -- I've been there. It's what prompted me to approach auctions the way I do now. Bid what you're willing to pay for an item when you first see it, then walk away and check the auction when it closes. If someone wants to bid more than you want to pay, good for him, he can have it. If no one else wants it as much as you do, congratulations, it's yours. Other people have other ideas that work for them. Maybe they use the snipers because they like to get something for $95 that they were willing to pay $100 for. Me, I don't care. If it's worth a hundred bucks to me, it's worth a hundred bucks! Good luck on your quest. You've got some good people up there in NorCal that seem happy to help you out. I'm sure you'll find what you're after. ---------------- Heretic, What you described as your way of doing auctions is exactly what sniping allows. You decide what you want to pay - enter the snipe- and walk away! The difference is that you dont give people the opportunity to see what you are willing to pay! The other difference is that if you snipe a hundred on something and then find the same thing in the local ppaper or at a garage sale you buy it and cancel the snipe - no harm no foul! Josh
  16. Gullah, Another place to look in the Bay Area is on Craigs list (www.craigslist.org) they also have a Sacramento/Stockton listing as well. I see K horns pop up there quite a bit. I am also a sniper. It truly is the only way to go - unless you want to buy with BIN. As has been said here - you decide what you want to pay and then set the snipe. If you get it great if not you dont find yourself in a bidding war. The other benefit is that if you find a better pair of speakers you can just cancel the snipe - no harm no foul! josh
  17. Hey fishin, Terry is doing my MA 6100. I have heard nothing but good things about him. Let us know how the rebuild goes. josh
  18. Not as if I need another piece of audio gear, but I couldnt resist the deal. I scored a MA 6100 solid state McIntosh integrated (or as they call it a pre and power amp) for 90 bucks. One of the channels is a little noisy and the glass was marginally bubbled. I have already scraped off the offending paint and repainted the inside of the glass to pretty good results. I am taking it to a repair place that told me over the phone that the repair shouldnt be more that 100 bucks. I know I could sell it for around 6 or 7 hundred but I am inclined to keep it. It was one of the units that I lusted after when I couldnt afford it. Anyone have any experience with these units? Josh
  19. I would agree with Guy on the sound of the MX 110. I absolutely love my MC 225 power amps and was looking forward to the pairing with a MX 110. I bought a Z that had been just gone through by the local Mac factory repair place. I could not have been more disapointed. To my ear the sound was overly lush, dark and cloudy. It sounded as of someone had put a blanket over my cornwalls. I also tried a c-22 and had a similar experience. I think the MC 240 ie a wonderful unit - just be sure to pair it with a modern preamp that doesnt put as much stuff in the signal path. I have friends who swear by the C-22 and MX 110 sound but for me Ill stick to the vintage power amp with modern preamps. Josh Oh btw I see them going for closer to 1200 than 600 - at least for the Z. I sold mine for 1000.00
  20. What if anything does anyone know or think of the JBL L200s. I might hve the opportunity to pick a minty pair for around 800 bucks. I have seen them go for about twice that so I may go for it. To listen to for a while and then sell. As far as I can remember they were two way floor standing slanted front speakers with a horn and a 15 inch woofer. I think when they were new they were so far over my reach that I kind of ignored them thinking that I actually might be able to afford a pair of L 100s. This was of course berfore I heard my first Klipsch and ceased lusting after lesser brands. Josh
  21. Why would they? Compared to the Windows base, the Mac base is a small target. ---------------- Small but smart group! Josh
  22. Just bought my daughter a car as well. She is now driving a 82 BMW 320i with 170K on it. I bought it for $1500.00 I have all the service records ( all at the dealer) and it looks showroom ( its a california car so 0 rust) . Had to put a clutch in it and some new skids. But all in all a pretty good buy. My first car was a 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 with a 358 "police intercepter" motor. I paid 250 bucks for it. To think I will now pay more for a pair of shoes for my wife is kind of sad! josh
  23. My logical side tells me that there would be no difference between quality interconnects. But the other side has a different idea! I have heard some pretty dramatic differences. I m not saying that that I would pay a ton of dough for them but I think that in the great scheme the difference is well worth it. Chris King and I were in a local (for me) high-end audiophile shop with the intention of laughing at the over priced hocus-pocus. We stumbled across an A/B interconnect demonstration that the owner of the shop was giving to another customer. After the demo, both Chris and I came away with newfound respect for the cables! Take this with a grain of salt because its coming from someone who thinks cryogenic tubes sound better! Josh
  24. I have tons of reel to reel tapes of LPs. In the old days, there was a record store in Berkeley that had a taping club. You paid 5 bucks to join and you could take home a LP to tape for 50cents if it was new and 25 cents if it had been used by someone else to tape! Of course this record store sold new records for $2.65 and $2.32 if my memory serves me. But as a high school student being able to take home records to tape ( on my Tandberg model 6 - the first piece of high end audio equipment I ever bought) was great! oh BTW the record store was Leopolds and they were some sort of Co-operative store that was non profit.
