  1. I've seen the mother's death compared to Bambi, for showing how devastating nature can be. I think it could be confusing to children because the animals have human characteristics. I thought the movie was excellent. The shadows required to render all the underwater stuff - that's amazing. I might have been in a crappy theater but the sound wasn't impressive to me.
  2. LCD vs. DLP is just one of many religious wars. I've typically felt the color and contrast is waaaay better on DLP projectors but at a very hefty price premium. I recently demoed the Sony Cizena ($3k) vs. a $10k DLP unit (model escapes me), the difference was clear, and clearly out of my price range too. Just like anything else in Home Theater you have to take all factors into consideration and perhaps try to balance shortcomings in once piece out with the strengths of another. If your room is 100% dark, you don't need a lot of lumens, if your projector doesn't quite have the contrast you want get a screen that compliments it, etc.
  3. Check out the Harman Kardon AVR 325. Don't be fooled by the 50 watts per channel, its a high current amp and in my opinion sounds very warm and good with Klipsch. I've only auditioned reference series on HK though, go to your local retailer and give it a listen.
  4. http://www.projectorcentral.com - check their top 10 list, also a good place to find reputable online retailers for projectors. They are very current and also do a good job of explaining brightness, contrals, LCD vs. DLP, all that.
  5. And, if so, anyone remotely near the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area where I could come listen to one
  6. I'm thinking of giving the SVS a try. To those of you who suggested a higher end SV model: I still need to buy my RS-7 surrounds and I'm going to be running out of cash soon. For $599, the SVS PB1-ISD seems too good to pass up. It can go down to 22hz same as the RSW-12, and its small enough to fit reasonably in my room without looking too crazy. I think I'll post another thread to see if anyone around me has actually bought one I can listen to.
  7. OK, I'm fairly close to finishing my system. I was going to go Klipsch all around for speakers. However, I see people raving about SVS subwoofers here. I looked Here at their new PB1. For quite a bit less than the RSW-12 it seems to have comparable specs? I don't know anything about subs and I haven't auditioned any yet. As far as I know, I just want something that sounds good and can go "LOW", right? This is the last piece I have to buy, Help!
  8. Thanks for the input everyone. I liked T2, I think I'll pick up the new DVD. For my part, U-571 is decent for showing off sound, the Matrix, and the Animatrix as well. Peace
  9. What DVD movies do you guys like to use to show off your home theater? I've heard U-571 is a really good one, the SW episode I & II. Other thoughts ?
  10. My understanding is that "crossover" will cause effects below a certain range to be sent only to the subwoofer instead of your main speakers. Most receivers have settings like "large" or "small" for each speaker and it will calculate the crossover frequency from that. According to Klipsch, all Klipsch reference speakers can be set to "large" in those types of receivers. Some people use a general rule, like 80hz, for these settings. Play with the settings and see what sounds good.
  11. Try the Sony DVP-NS725P. Progressive scan, has optical and coax out, DTS and Dolby digital. I'm not 100% this one supports SACD but it does do MP3 and a lot of other things for $149.00.
  12. That was a typo, sorry. They are KLH, as in, the lowest of the low.
  13. I have auditioned the RF-5, the RF-3 II, and the RF-35 very recently. The 5s are worth the money, which is what most people will tell you. My specific complaint is that I could hear some distortion in the 3s with high volume and moderate bass. They RF-35s can fill a decent sized room though, so if you have a subwoofer and bass managment you'd be fine with those too.
  14. Would either the RS-35 or the RS-7 surround speakers sound OK with RF-5 front speakers ? I'm assuming they would?
  15. Dolby.com has some guides, so does liquidtheater.com
  16. I'm a big fan of HK + Klipsch as well. At American TV (chain local to Wisconsin here) they have Klipsch in the same room as HK, Denon, and Onkyo. Even the AVR 325 with 50 watts can fill a huge room with the RF-5s
  17. I've heard good things about the AVIA Guide to Home theater setup disc.
  18. I got my new RC-35 Center channel last night. This speaker is fairly new, I believe. I'm not wise enough in the ways of speakers yet to give it a proper review, but if anyone has specific questions I'm game. Watched "Equilibrium" and "The Animatrix" last night, I'm very pleased with it. Due to my HT rooms situation, I had to place the center a little bit lower than is ideal. The RC-35 comes with a simple system whereby you can tilt it up via a screw. This is a very nice thought in my opinion.
  19. I do not yet own Klipsch surround speakers. Does anyone have experience with both the RS- style and more traditional style speakers for surrounds? My main concern is that I believe according to Dolby/DTS the side and rear surround should be a directional sound source, or at least the sides for sure should. The documentation for the RS-7s says they create a "field" of sound, which to me means "directionless" Any comments?
  20. I have yet to use the dipole speakers as surrounds either. I suppose the "everywhere" feeling is fine for side and rear surrounds?
  21. The unknowledgable salespeople at Best Buy don't bother me nearly as much as the constant pushing of their service plans. Who here takes their DVD player into Best Buy to be cleaned once a month? Come on.
  22. Thanks man. I like the current look, I hope to be picking them up this weekend.
  23. Some people will flame me for this but I thought the Denon receivers were a little bit piercing on the highs with the reference series. I recommend giving the HK AVR 325 and 525 a listen before you decide.
  24. The main site claims the RC-35 is a refinement (ie better) than the RC-3 II. I've not had a demo yet to hear how they sound. I imagine I'll be picking one up very soon though for space considerations if nothing else, the RC-7 is just huge.
  25. Its entirely possible that this dealer is smoking crack, which is why I came here to validate the claim. Looking at the new "compare" feature on the main Klipsch site, the specs for the RC-35 are _very close_ to the RF-5, on paper they don't look like an insult to the reference line. I think, either way, I've decided to track down a pair of RF-5s even if they're not going to be in production much longer.
