  1. Thanks for the suggestions guys, and my budget is around $4000~. I personally think the best route for me is DIY though, you can build a much better speaker for a lower cost then with major brand names, seeing as you aren't paying for all the overhead that comes with mainstream speakers. Right now I've got my eye on some Dayton and Goldwood drivers for the floorstandings, surrounds and center speakers. With the floorstandings I'm gonna go with three 8" bass drivers, one 4" midrange, and one 1" dome tweeter for each. For the surrounds I'm gonna go with two 4" midranges and a 1" dome tweeter for each (It'll be 7.2). The center will have four 4" midrange drivers and two 1" dome tweeters. And I'm gonna use two MTX THUNDER5500 15" subs with a 15" passive radiator on the back of each one. The frequency range on these babies is 19-150 Hz. And for the receiver I'll use the Onkyo 7.1 TX-SR703S THX Select2. Pretty excited, this is gonna be one hell of a home theater project. Shortly after I finish my 15" projector I'm gonna build a 17" HD projector and give the 15 incher to my parents. Any suggestions on how to build some kickass DIY speakers are appreciated.
  2. If I were you I'd personally invest in a projector so that I could have a 100" screen. MUCH more theatrical, believe me.
  3. Hey guys, gonna be building my home theater in my basement. Just wondering what kinda speakers would fill a room that's roughly 30' x 30' in size? Need recommendations for surrounds, center speaker, floor standings, and a sub. Thanks in advance. Also, what kinda floor standing and center speakers would work well for a behind the screen set-up? I'll be using a projector btw. Thanks again.
  4. I absolutely agree with this post. 100% true.
  5. Man I hear that, I hate those kids that role down the street with "loud" or "boomy" bass and they as well as other people think it's quality bass, heh, what a joke.
  6. Heh, what a waste of money. You could build a killer speaker system with that amount of money that would destroy those. (why do people bother buying stuff like that because it's old? Some antiques I understand, but this??)
  7. Refer to this thread. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/709915.aspx And I whole heartedly recommend the Klipschs over the Logitechs.
  8. I think I actually might end up taking that route, I've been meaning to build my own speakers for a while now.
  9. Awesome, thanks for the info guys. I think I'm gonna look for some speakers that don't use horn tweeters and have more of a "warm" sound to them that aren't so revealing of imperfections. Any suggestions guy/gals?
  10. It is a bad thing, because they are advertising it as something it's not.
  11. Now what I mean by that is that I've heard some people say that the horn tweeters Klipsch uses sound a little "too" bright. I am really into that "warm" sound and feel when I listen to a nice set of speakers, not sure if you guys understand what I mean. I've noticed when the tweeters sound too bright they cause some fatigue after long listening periods. I was wondering if Klipsch delivers that warmth of sound?
  12. Yep, but he wasen't asking the same question I am. You know I was thinking about just waiting for Klipsch's new line of subs to come out in a few months. http://www.audioholics.com/ces/CESspeakers/KlipschSubwoofers.php
  13. I never understood why people say you can never have enough bass. I totally disagree, a balanced amout that allows you to hear all the other speakers but still get a nice LF sound is obviously ideal. At least in my opinion anyway, I just prefer accurate, realistic sound, because in real life gun shots don't sound like earthquakes.

    King Kong DVD

I absolutely love this movie, one of the best ever made imo. Although I am really dissappointed they didn't include a DTS track for the DVD, very lame.
  15. So I decided to scrap the idea of getting a budget sub and save up a little more, I'm sure it'll be well worth it. But I was wondering, what's the best choice for a sub that goes below 20hz for no more then $600? Thanks in advance guys/gals.
  16. Well the best sub I personally have heard in this range is the Velodyne DPS-12. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Velodyne-12-Subwoofer-DPS-12-/sem/rpsm/oid/97737/catOid/-12950/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
  17. Awesome, keep the suggestions comin guys. Oh and the room it'll be in is 12 x 10 feet.
  18. Seeing as I just blew my damn PM 5.1 sub. > Keep in mind I am looking to spend NO MORE then $250, the lower the better. (yes cheap I know). Can you guys please post the best budget subs in that range? Larger subs prefered, it will be mainly for movie watching. Thanks in advance.
  19. Thanks for the info Donald, but I am still slightly confused as to how to get the sub working properly with a receiver, so I just set the L and R speakers to large? Anything else I have to do? I too am trying to get mine working with a receiver, I am getting a low humming just like the other guy, same exact situation here. Any further explanation on how to get this config working would be VERY much appreciated. OMG! I just blew my damn amp in my sub!
  20. I was wondering, has anyone, or is it even possible to use speakers like these for your home theater system?
  21. One of the worst decisions Klipsch EVER made was stopping the production of the SWS, truly saddening.
  22. 9.1? Where have you been? I'm already using 15.2 DTS Ultra THX4 surround sound with 50,000 watts driving them and two 24" subwoofers. Seriously though man, can you say "overkill"?
  23. You got some serious bass addiction issues bro. You need MORE bass then what the KSW-15 offers?? Your home theater room must be HUUUUGE.
