I would try that as well as take the cover off and used compressed air and blow out any dust. That being said, I had a CD player that started skipping all of the time and my buddy needed to adjust something inside.

You might need to replace your transport.....

Fortes don't need to be that far out.  I have them like 8" from the wall and the bass is killer even in a 9,000 cubic foot room.  Literally sounds like I have a pretty nice sub or two even with a tiny little 50 watt Marantz slim line receiver.  If bass is anemic with Forte III's, I have a hard time saying it's the fault of the speakers from what I've seen.

I don't know what to say. Only what I listened to.

Heard them in the Klipsch listening room in Hope. I should think that they would give them a fair shot in a demo.  ???

    Bill,

Can't respond. Seems to disappear after a few lines........  How could that be? Is Marketing looking in ????    Just kidding.    Will try later.

    Another try.....

Both were placed 8-10' from the wall. No corner or wall gain.

The Forte sounded more subdued. Top to bottom.  A little "polite" for my taste. Like a speaker that I would use in my office or bedroom.

The CW was robust. Much larger sound. Tight and fast LF. Top to bottom "in your face".

Can't comment on Imaging for ether.  CW having a larger soundstage.  Detail was nice in both speakers.

I have been researching both the Cornwall III and Forte III for a few months.  I've read every review of each I can find on each.  I have no way to listen to both sets of speakers locally.  I want speakers for mainly classic rock and country music in my my Game Room which is 28'X22'. I just purchased a Peachtree Audio nova300 amplifier to pair with the speakers.  They are close enough in cost to where that's not an issue.  Which speakers should I get?

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to A/B the Forte lll and the Cornwall lll.  Speaker switching box, with the same gain on each speaker.

The difference was jaw-dropping.  Disregarding price, the CW lll just smoked the Forte lll  IMHO

The R-117 is one special piece.:emotion-21:  Thumping bass drive, sweet velvety midrange, and detailed highs.  Did I mention power/headroom?  Soundstage?

Easily drove my RB-35's and Heresys as speaker A and speaker B without breaking a sweat.

I must think that there were a few Luxman designers left over when Alpine bought them.  The "R" ands the "m" series were winners.
Been running two M117's (bridged) for years. 600wpc beasts. OK, I do like head room. Pretty pricey for 1990 at $1,300 ea.  Known to have a tube like sound for a big SS power amp.   Had them re-capped and gone thru about 10 years ago.

Now they are dedicated to LF duty with MC 100's on the top.

I was thinking, if there may be an option where the performance of a floor-stander is desired, but also, want to keep almost everything at least a couple feet off the floor. Any comments or recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I think that there is something to be said for coupling the LF to the floor.  ??

    Welcome

Saw and heard this preamp a couple of weeks ago.  This is a very nice unit, and very lightly used, for a great price.  You can't get anything like this for the money asked.

I heard it as well.    Sounds good and good price!   JWC stuff is always top-notch.

You should consult forum member JWC who designed the cabinets.  There were different versions.  The cabinets I have are double cornwall bass bins.  He actually took the drivers and horns and soaked them in water (in plastic of course) to get the exact displacement and built the inner volume exact to a cornwall (for each bin).  That said the original cornwall had a volume to support the K33 woofer and properly load it.  So if you change the woofer you now detune the design.  Mine are accurate down to around 42Hz.  JWC told me mostly garbage after that.  SO I don't try to get them any lower.  I use a pair of 684 subs along with them.  Maybe you need to look at different speakers if you want to go lower.

I will say my '73 cornwalls definitely go lower than my DBBs.  Why is that?  I have no idea.  But they have the original K33 woofers in them.  My DBBs have the Crites cast frames.

My MWM bass bins use the Crites stamped and I actually have always preferred the smoothness of those over the thump of the cast.

I have the original DBB's (side ports) and run Crites cast frame woofers.

Always felt like the "thump" was what this speaker was all about.  ;)

Oh now....it would be fresh on your mind if you drug out your Cornwalls with the 1st order networks and no bandpass....and play at your kinda SPLs.   Screeching Owls would move in.....

I had to do it man.  I'm over here now laughin' at my own sarcasm s*** .  I must be bored.

You should be ashamed.......    but you are right, screeching owls would move in if I still had K600's on them

Yea, but I follow what Mark1101 is saying.  The thing is, if you listen to some of Roy's modern day horn inventions/creations....... You are screwed .......trying to find the love in the "home speakers".

I've heard all the Heritage stuff .......like everyone else here..... and heard most of the pro stuff.......a lot.   It is time the pro stuff bleeds into the home stuff IMO but I won't lose sleep over it otherwise.  It isn't a complaint....just a longtime wish.

Klipsch business model is way over our heads and then there is the respect of PWK.  I won't make bones with Klipsch on what they call stuff.....just offer me some home stuff that I will be willing to buy new.  I don't have any urge left to buy new a LSII, Klipschorn, Heresy, Cornwall at the current design.  It just isn't for me.

Forte with a new designed midhorn.........call it my wallet biopsy :)

I haven't given this much thought for a long time.  But years ago it was my belief that the Heritage Sound was defined by PWK's bass bins, not the K400.  To some degree some of  his mid horns were designed to "fit the box". (K600-K700)  Never thought that those horns would be replaced. Respect for PWK.

    Any takers?

I skipped to the end (short attention span and lack of patience).

"Heritage" are designs that PK was involved with on an intimate level.

    Klipschorn

    LaScala

    Belle Klipsch

    Chorus

    Forte

    Quartet

Notice that all others have a "number" in their model identification.

Marketing is now now playing fast and loose with the term - and I'm calling "bullshit".

No Cornwall or Hersey in the Heritage Line Dean?

Done. You don't get it  see ya!!   As I told deano , I don't owe you anything.

No Patron. You do owe us. You owe us outstanding speaker design and you continue to do just that.

When I called Klipsch about getting my xo's rebuilt they gave me the number to Freeman Tuell in Dallas. Nowhere on their website did they mention klipsch as being a brand they serviced. I found Bob through this forum and used him and am very happy with that decision. I called klipsch back today and ordered a replacement driver. They pulled up my last ticket where I had inquired about xo repair and again mentioned Freeman Tuell as the repair service they recommended. I told him I went with Bob Crites and he knew the name and even mentioned he was in Russelville Arkansas. My question is why isn't klipsch recommending Bob? He's obviously the most qualified and knows more than any other repair center.

Mr. Crites offers upgrades in keeping with PWK designs.  If you want to upgrade / freshen your networks and have the original PWK sound, Bob is second to none.
