  3. You went the right way with the rug. Your surrounds look perfectly placed to me for a 5.1 setup. Your center looks perfectly placed as well. If you don't want your mains in front of your windows then they are also good. If you don't mind them then spread them out a bit further. As for subs, skip the Klipsch and get the Svs pb-2000. You need the ported as the sb-2000 would not provide enough spl to keep up with your setup. Unless you never let loose. Which I doubt, you did buy Klipsch :)

Crawl space is good. Means your not on a slab. Which can be boring. Forget all the crap you read about isolating your sub. Order that Svs and try it out. I prefer my floor shaking. It's like getting buttkickers for free with your sub purchase. Some say oh well I isolated it and it stopped my dishes from rattling 40 feet away. Cool good for you. I'd find another way to get my dishes to stop rattling and enjoy the tactile like sensation my subwoofer gives me.

Slightly OT: Crawl spaces are cool because speaker cable can be installed under floor.

  4. I was never that big of a fan....RIP anyway.

His two hits before Little red corvette and such, was "Controversy" and "Erotic City". Those two were my favorite songs of his.

I liked his spin-off groups better. Sheila E, Vanity 6 later to be called Apollonia 6, Ready for the World, Jesse Johnson.

I did not like the movie Purple Rain. The only parts of the movie I liked was Morris Day and The Time!

LMAO! I forgot about Morris Day. He was great on stage! I smile when I think of that part.

  5. Did see Purple Rain and didn't care for it much or his music but I have to say he was a showman. RIP

    Eldon,

A little late to post but...

Back in the day I bought the Purple Rain album and liked a couple of cuts. Since then not a drop of him.

Such a weird thing about this. I have spoken to several about his death and they feel bad as do I. ?????

Why? I only listened to two cuts!!!!

Seti visited Saturday, we discussed it and came to a conclusion. Prince could be thought of the some way as many might think of Elvis Costello.

Both are under our radar but they should be respected for their work.

  6. What is an appropriate horn to use with the Altec 902 as a tweeter above 4000 Hz? Typically with horns I go with bigger is better but I'm not sure that's necessary with the higher frequencies.

902 on Altec 511b horn. Cross at 500hz

  7. Nor do I...music from about 1840--1900 sort of got lost in the metaphor, I think (except for the Russians).  I prefer the periods of music before and after that time period.

    Yes...that's what I said... :P

    Chris

Yes I understood what you said. I would like to think that you understood what I said.

  8. Disco? Ah man that was low.

No, no.  DIsco/dance, hip hop, and funk have their own acoustic signature.

    ...You're not talking about culture...are you...? ;)

    Chris

Oh no. I wouldn't dare. But you are exactly right. It does come down to genre and I don't listen to Brahms very often ;)

  9. It is refreshing to read that some of the the bass horn guys admit that this is subjective. Yes there are tradeoffs. Many will trade a little flabby for extreme impact.

Yes, there are trade-offs to every design.  Horn-loaded bass is high on my list of desired qualities however because of the tightness and transparency of sound, very much like what Richard Heyser referred to as the "closing car door" effect when reviewing the Khorn.  It sounds real--not like a disco.

  10. If Chief Bonehead comes out with a non-behind-the-screen passive for the KPT-942/4-B, I'm all back in.  I've slowly let my Pro Cinema products go over the last few years. :(

Except I kept my four KPT 684's subs.....I haven't completely lost my mind....yet.

    What? No 510 tweeter?

And James...some would question the sanity of running 4 684's in a home environment smile

  11. Just as a point of departure in our listening preferences: the day we shared listening to vented boxes (among other configurations), I really didn't like the sound of any of them.  Flabby but powerful would be my descriptors...even the 4x15".

The Jub bass bin sounds, well, correct...to my ears.  So does the New Center (i.e., the K-402-based multiple entry horn)--the same way but much better midbass (100-400 Hz) and much more cohesive.

  12. I have had Epic CF3's vs.1's for 12 years or more now, and I have not heard another speaker that I would sell them for and I at tend Audio shows whenever possible as well as visit high end audio shops. The Epics do what a great many speakers just can't do. Concert level effortless slam when cranked and yet also excel at low level listening for late night sessions.  They have powerful bass and the highs are smooth.   They are well worth the asking price and more, in my humble opinion.  I have not heard a great many of the older Klipsch speakers and so can't compare.  But I have heard 100's of speakers costing from 5000 to 50,000 dollars and on so many levels they just can't touch some  ofthe great qualities of the Epic line. I myself give much props to Roy Delgado in their creation.

I too am a Delgado fan. His pro cinema units are some of the best Two Channel speakers I have listened to.

Correct me if wrong... My understanding is that the Epic was his first solo design for Klipsch. ??? And at that time the Trax equation (the horn) was not well received by PWK. ???

In my forty four years of owning multiple Klipsch speakers and chasing great sound systems I have listened to one Epic speaker. (the big ones I think)

All said and to play the dark one: If they are wonderful, why were they made for only two or so years?

  13. Any F1 or IndyCar fans on here? IndyCar had it's 1st race of the year last Sunday, F1 starts this weekend.

I'm wondering how the new U.S. based Haas team will do in F1? Their practice times have been decent.

Im also hoping the McLaren/Honda team ups it's game this year. They're two of the most prestigious names in F1, and it's alarming they did so poorly last year. I know Honda doesn't like to lose.

Yes. I like fast cars that can turn.....both left AND right.

  14. I've been searching for a good shop to do engine work on my motor cross bike (Kawasaki KX450f) walked in to a shop in Little Rock and on the wall were CORNWALLS!!!! I knew then that shop was the one I've been looking for!

    Rock,

Years ago I checked into a HI in Jonesboro. Small bar had four CW's flying!

  15. You would not be able to tell any difference between 18 gauge zip-cord and welding cable at 10 feet, 20 feet or more.  You can buy a lot of music with the money saved.

Of course, whatever you get needs to be suspended on little wooden supports and you need to hold your tongue a certain way to get the right air and maximum separation between the instruments.  PWK used 18 AWG zip-cord inside Heritage for decades. :-)  Buy more music!

I agree. Save money and buy music! Been using old coat hangers for years. (the painted ones only)

  16. I have only used the current production and find the EH sounds a little better than the Sovtek in my Peach.

I few months ago I had one go bad.  Created hum on one channel.  Other than that I have been using them in my Peach for around 9-10 years and no issues.

I think the question is...........which sounds better?  6dj8/6922 or 6h3

I think the 6h30 is quieter.

    ,

Mark, to my ear the quality of 6922 is about application. Example: In a power amp tubes like the Jans 6922 sound very good and are cost effective.

But the front end (pre amps or CDP's)is a different story. One must pick and choose to find the really quiet ones... and they can be hard to find and expensive.

I put NOS 60's Siemens 6DJ8's in the AH! CDP the sound was worth every dime!

That said, I do love the 6h30 in my Peach and how it sounds In Super Merlin.

  17. Great thread looking forward to it. Still cant understand how some builders prefer the horn on top of the cab with 2 15"s below placed vertically  (maybe ease of construction)? Some say its  best to split the woofers and place the horn between the two, others like Jbl in their newest TOTL Everest project place them horizontally with the horns on top....

Placing the woofers vertically moves the horn closer to ear level.
