  1. Nice. Talk about an "event"! All of those people I'm sure, played complete havoc on the room acoustics. I'm familiar with your speakers. A very fast, detailed sound. It's hard to imagine them not sounding anything short of stellar. This kind of environment is certainly not condusive to any sort of serious listening. This kind of meeting is best suited for showing the system, and some general discussion -- as the emphasis will most definitely be in the fellowshipping, and the enjoyment of each other's company. Some listening would be in order, but maybe more casually -- so those who have interest can get a general impression of the signature and capabilities of the system. Any type of serious review is out of the question. The system has been built to your taste. It matters not what others think. Others can offer opinions on what they believe will create improvement in the sound -- but that does not ensure that once implemented, you will find so much an improvement -- but merely a lateral shift in the signature. Of course, as always -- it's purely subjective. Meetings should be for 'talk', and the pure enjoyment of being together -- sharing in a common interest. If a review, or serious evalutation is the goal -- it is probably best to confine this sort of thing to a handful of people, and preferably -- several who achieve sonic bliss in completely different ways.
  2. Interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do for me. HD's comment that the Heresy is the most forgiving of the breed -- is something I am hanging on to for now:)
  3. That ran across my mind too. I thought maybe Klipsch had had enough of all this tube business, and decided to issue a gag order. I was then worried that maybe the black helicopters took Mobile away.
  4. The 'high-end' isn't always about the music, but about manipulating the music, and more about the equipment than anything else. Many times, there is no relationship between the level of musicality a system can propagate -- and the cost of the system. I'm still a big believer in diminishing returns as well. There is a point at which the whole thing just becomes nonsensical. To me, it's simply about tearing down the veil. I want the speakers to disappear. I don't want to be aware of a systems character. I just want the music to pull me in. To me, it's about the feeling I would get just cruising in my Cuda with the Jensen coaxials going. Just being with the music, and not so much 'listening' to it. I think Klipsch does a better job at this than anything I have heard to date.
  5. I had to double up on my meds -- I was a nervous wreck. It was awful, just plain awful.
  6. Well, what really bothers me is the fact that no one manufactures a resonance free receptacle wall plate that comes in direct contact with the power cord plug. With the proper wall plate, isolating resonances from the plug and attached cable -- any power cable at the $2000 pricepoint would immediately come to the same performance level as any $5000 and above power cable.
  7. You got me there. That's really true about most show rooms. Carlin Audio is a nice store though. It's not like what many of you might be accustomed to. Imagine going into a store and seeing Klipsch RF7's hooked up to about $20,000 worth of electronics. The first time I heard the 7's I almost passed out from hyperventilating. I bought them on the spot. Now...THAT'S how you sell speakers!!
  8. Pat pat pat. Good job Ryan! Post more -- we like you.
  9. Several here on the forum, including me -- are worried about Mark. Is he O.K.?
  10. You must drink some excellent beer.
  11. I don't think anyone on this forum has spent 1/2 the price of a new car on any tube gear. ASL, AES, and some of vintage stuff is down right inexpensive -- and I don't think anyone loses money on these things if they are bought used to begin with. So much of this just depends on what you are used to, what you are willing to get used to, and the degree of enjoyment you get out of what you have.
  12. That's not really true. I heard Hesesys at Carlin Audio here in Dayton at least a dozen times through the late 70's and early 80's. Hell, I just always figured that tin can midrange sound was because of the metal lenses. When I first listened to RB5's, it was the complete absence of this quality that drew me to them. Of course, the only thing I've ever heard Heresys with is Yamaha equipment. K-horns on old Crown stuff, and Scalas on Lord know what.
  13. I hope mine are plastic. Plastic good. Metal bad.
  14. "Yeah...$25 is an awful lot to spend for at least a pair of t35 tweeters...." That was good.
  15. Interesting. So the Dynaco product probably just follows this wiring scheme 'in the box'. Of course, for $35 -- you get the nifty box and the cool knobs:)
  16. Jeff, what makes you say these Heresys are 1984. Did you gather this from the serial number?

Minimus 7's huh. So what's the deal here? Since the device is primarily dealing with out of phase retrieval, you don't have to worry about the bass much? I wasn't even aware that this thing could be used with more that one amp. I talked to them on the phone about a year ago, and got the impression it was designed only to be used with one amp. I also thought that one of those knobs acted like a balance/attenuator, so you could shift output between front and rear -- sort of like you can on a car stereo. Isn't timbre matching a consideration here? So, maybe I'll find myself a nasty, beat up set of Heresys -- yank the tweeter and the squawker -- remove the bass elements from the crossover -- and then mount the tweeter & midrange drivers, along with the crossover -- in the ceiling behind me Definitely time for bed.
  18. Mike. You are -- therefore you post. Whell, umm, actually, you SS folks ARE "conventionalists", but "heritics" you are not -- for that blessed title is reserved for us tubies. For sure, to each his own. Nobody hear is slamming solid state, but merely stating what we feel the differences are. Also, the majority on this forum were using SS two years ago, and most who have actually tried tube gear in their system has NOT gone back. As a matter of fact -- I don't know ANYONE that has gone back to SS after experiencing even the most humble tube setup. Many who enjoy HT have found it best to create a separate system for 2-channel music.
  19. I know Nugent, and I do guitar -- but what's a Birdsong?
  20. Yes, I'm an idiot. I should have read the post more closely. Thanks for the heads up. If we had any sense we'd all be running linux. It may not be as intuitive, but it's certainly more stable.
  21. Your signature says your HT system is RB5 based. Tell me a little about that system. I'm especially interested in your opinion of those little dynamos as compared to the Chorus' you are running.
  22. Of course, the lens size. Hell I knew that. It must be time for bed!!
  23. uhh, let me get this straight. I want to make sure I didn't misunderstand. The tweeter and midrange drivers are same in the Heresy, as they are in the Scala, Belle, and K-horn? That can't be right. I clearly misunderstood. In the event this is true, then what pray-tell, accounts for the huge disparity in sensitivity between Heresy and the others? Yes, yes, I know -- showing my ignorance again.

Yeah, that was fun. Probably could have kept it up for another hour if my phone hadn't of crapped out. Yep, that's the one. For some reason I thought it was $50, but hey -- $35 is even better.
