  1. I use Dish Network, and am very satisfied with both the HD video, and the digital sound output. The built in digital recorder is a bonus. I get all my local networks in HD as well. No projector here, but the HD plasma widescreen hanging on the wall is quite nice.
  2. Joe Schmoe--- I don't know where you live, but here, It is illegal to have a gas meter and vent inside of a residence. Scary
  3. The first LP I listened to this new year was Chick Corea, The Leprechaun. Excellent tonal qualities, played through my prototype MDF K-horns. My forest was alive
  4. Get yourself a house in the country. My closest neighbour is 2 miles away, and he's never complained. If you can't crank it...yank it.
  5. After growing up listening to the fabulous K-horns, and finally deciding they were the only speakers for me, only to be shot down by the large lump-sum required to purchase a set. I just thought I'd been totally eklipsched. But now, thanks to one of this BB's members, I have the plans on a disc, plus the original SL plans, plus the constant hints and tips of other members. I'm in the tedious and time-consuming process of building my first finished set. I built a prototype set, using MDF, just to get the gist of the work involved, and how precise the cuts must be. I realize that when finished, I won't have an original PWK set, but without a real close inspection, I don't think the average listener would notice. I also realize that I will still have invested about what a factory set would cost, but can spread the expense out over time, and gain the satisfaction of knowing that I built them myself to boot. Incidently, I veneered the MDF prototypes, and loaded them with drivers, horns, and crossovers, just for kicks , and have been offered a tidy sum for them. I most likely will not sell them, as I don't really need the money, and they're just sort of a cool thing to have laying around the shop. By the way, my BB name has nothing to do with my real name.....David
  6. All this talk about CD players and digital whatsits is quite confusing, to say the least. Sounds like a big expense for a noise-free (artificial) sound. I prefer the old (original) sound coming from my modest stereo setup. My primary musical listening devices consist of a high-end Micro Seiki turntable, with a CD-4 cartridge ( a device for playing a vinyl album, for the newbies), and a 4-channel Teac reel to reel deck. These are fed into a Marantz quad preamp, and then off to 2 Marantz power amps, with a modest 85 wpc (actual watts, not the bogus ratings of todays standards). From there it's off to 2 beautiful pairs of home-built (by me) walnut-faced K-horns (not the Speakerlab K clones), using my own design crossovers, with high-end parts. A digital camera is not in the current budget, so pics will follow at a later time. I obviously spend too much money on albums and blank reel to reel tapes. Oh well, it satisfies my musical hunger Eklipsched
  7. There was a time when every Radio Shack store had a tube tester, but I think they are all gone now. Try to find a ham radio operator in your area, and, chances are, he has one or can introduce you to another operator that does. Eklipsched
  8. I want to post my own personal avatar, and list the equipment in my current system, like the old-timers on here do. How is this accomplished?
  9. I use the Cingular/Nokia services here. $63 a month, 2 phones, 2 numbers, 400 anytime, 5000 night & weekend, unlimited mobile to mobile, free long distance, free roaming, and rollover minutes. Never had a dropped call, or weak signal area. Battery lasts over 2 weeks on a charge. Eklipsched
  10. Sounds like some serious frustration here. Obviously too many people depend too much on their computers for their musical needs. I don't care who made the CD, or whether it is so-called copy protected or not. If I can listen to it, I can copy it, period. Computer not needed. If I get the music off the internet, I can burn it. Again, computer hard drive and computer CD burner not needed. I can take any format of music and transfer it to a CD, no problems. Total investment for this process is way under $1000, actually under $500. I'm not bragging, or meaning to make anyone mad, just stating the plain and simple facts. Enjoy!
  11. Frzninvt--- Thanks for the link to the pics, they look like alot of nice woodwork, but still, I'm no closer to constructing my own. Digjr--- If you would consider providing or selling your plans, I would be most appreciative. Just going by the pics and the outer measurements, it would be most difficult to construct a set, without actual blueprints, cut sheets, etc. Thanks to all!
  12. Hello all! I'm new to this board, and haven't had time to review all of the posts, so please bear with me. I'm looking for working plans, to build a set of Klipschorns with a 12" woofer. I have all of my drivers and crossovers. I also have a very well equipped woodworking shop. By the way, the plans commonly available on eBay, are non-acceptable, or at least the ones I've found so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
