  1. All I know about it is what I posted.LMAO I would love to see it operate. Even if it sounded mediocre it would be fun to see it work...and stick my head in the middle.......
  2. LMAO, saw the title and thought of this link: http://autosound2000.com/gallery/images/Richard3-sml.jpg Believe it or not that really is a speaker. It was the creation of Richard Clark for IASCA dB competition. It was given the nickname "The Bomb" The woofer is 5 feet across and is powered by four 100,000 watt amps which are supplied with juice from four batteries used by a 747. The woofer has a throw of six inches and can move back and forth with a force of 2 tons. The whole thing was put inside a milk truck that was armour plate to the point that it now weighs 8,000lbs. It was estimated that the system would would hit 180dB but the woofer cone was never able to hold itself together under the extreme sound pressure above 160dB. After a few attempts to make the woofer stronger and still failing to hold together, Mr. Clark retired the milk truck. That should do the trick---if its retired maybe ya can get it cheap!
  3. The vast majority of dealers sell at MSRP. Knowing full well that there is alot of slack in that price, I go and look at on-line prices for the same equipment, print it out and go back to my local Klipsch dealer to show him. Tell him look, dont make me go online, I want to spend my money locally, but you have to work with me cause I now know you can do better..... everytime they have matched it or very close!
  4. In cetain situations the bass from the main speakers and the sub can cancel each other and your bass goes south. so if you get this situation flip the switch and it should help. play several recordings each way and see if it makes a difference.
  5. depends on how the reciever is set, room acoustics, and personal taste. I have a denon 2800 and rf3's in front. I stared out with the sub volume set a little less than halfway and the crossover set to 70hz. I vary it a little bit dependind on the recording, but it stays there most of the time.
  6. But if your gonna bi-wire them you dont use the jumper.
  7. the plate amp is what is powering your sub. looks like a plate mounted on the back. They can be had for less than you think.
  8. Saw an Altec tube setup today at a pawn shop in town. This guy has "good junk". He had several pieces of McIntosh equipment-tube and solidstate, an old Fisher tube reciever, and this Altec tube set up. It was amps only, 2 monoblocks @100watts each. Dont ask me what model cause I dont know. They are working, and he's asking $700 for both of them. Seemed like a good deal to me but I dont have the money so I thought of "yall". Any one interested, let me know and I'll foward the shop phone number to you. I asked him if it was OK to do this post 1st. And for what it's worth, this is in the Kansas City area.
  9. If its under five years, I'd get on the phone to Klipsch. Also, if its not under warranty, I saw some good prices on plate amps in a post awhile back. I'd do a new post on who's got sources on plate amps. But 1st call Klipsch,ASAP.
  10. Yes it would, but it could also be something as simple as a bad connection in the cables. check both ends and try it on someone elses stereo too before going the warrant route.
  11. But have you played with the settings yet, I'm curious now if it made any difference?
  12. 2seconds on- 15 minutes off. Thats what the owners manual should say. It comes on within 2 seconds of a signal and stays on for 15 minutes after its last signal. Now if your reciever doesn't put out much in the way of low frequency signals at low vloumes that would cause this. Also could depend on where you have the crossover on your sub set. If its down around 60 or so, that may cause it at lower volumes. As an experiment, try setting it up to 100 and see how it acts for awhile. That could tell you if this is the issue. If it is, try turning down the crossover till the prob reoccurs, then go back up a bit. Or pump up the volume at all times!LOL
  13. yep, just hook up the sub to the LFE / sub spot on back of the 3803 and tell the reciever you now have a sub(on screen menu) and away you go!
  14. If its mostly for films, then yes, the rs 3's are the way to go. I'm going to be getting another set of rf-3s thru my dad's will and am going to try then in the back to see how I like it that way. I'm wondering if I could trade mine and his to get a set of RF-7's for the front.....hmmmmm
  15. So what are you looking for? you've mentioned looking for a seperate amp to power them... Are you looking for just an amp or pramp orthe whole ball of wax so to speak. If so, with that price in mind, your better off getting a reciever. Denon, Yamaha, Sony and the Pioneer Elites are real popular around hear. Onkyo and Harmon Kardon have a following also. really any of these are gonna be good sounding with Klipsch. Find one with all the features you want and a remote that makes sense to you.
  16. If they were brand new, give them a month or so, they will open up some more....I let mine play background music 24/7 for a full week when I got them. It really did help! (24/7 for a week....isnt that redundant?)
  17. If your using a 5.1 system or better especially, there is no prob at all. As you said, the tweeter takes the high's the center channel takes most of the vocals/vioces, which leaves the 7's to do the rest so to speak. Realize the material the cones are made of. Very light but stiff and strong. With the rest of the speaker structure being of great quality and efficiency, you get clear lows and midrange. The ten inch size, if anything, may take care of any harshness or brightness youd MAY get with a smaller speaker, especially in the upper mids. I myself would LOVE to go from my rf 3's to the rf 7's for theater or music applications!!!Course, I'd like to go to Klipschhorns all around too......
  18. I've been coming here for a number of years now, but dont post all that much. I spend most of my time just reading and trying to learn. I often get a kick out of the my di** is bigger than yours arguments that happen, but never get involved in them. When someone gets that verbally abusive, they loose credibility in my eyes and pretty much get ignored from then on. Their post get passed over as do their comments. I think maybe once a couple of years ago I reported someone to a mod for "proper disposition". Some forums have an ignore list option so you can automatically weed out someone whom you dont get along with. It would be handy here too it seems. (AS s side note, I just noticed my post count should be several hundred, and I've been coming here since 98...maybe I should start a raving ranting fit...)
  19. Hehe, momma doesnt think I'm too cool right now....I gave him my old JVC reciever and the DLK model 3 loudspeakers I'd had for 20 years. He's 13 and into music alot. The 12's in those loudspeakers went south due to age, so since he's into hiphop and rap and rock, I put in some Audiobahn 1251's that I found on-line for 42 bucks apiece. I then got a good deal on a Onkyo 100wpc reciever so he is shakin stuff off the walls when he annouces hes gonna "do some bassin'" in his room.......wait till I get the SVS.....
  20. I'm voting for the SVS, I know when I can afford it, I will be getting a SVS product, and probably give the ksw 12 to my son to abuse,LOL
  21. I was going to suggest the RF 3's or II's, the main difference is an updated crossover and use of monster cable inside. Good choice, I have the same set up except the sub. As far as the grill, klipsch doesnt make it in white, and I really think painting it will screw up the sound. It will block up the pores of the cloth and muffle the sound. I would buy a new set of grills and strip the cloth and use a very loose knit nylon type material. If you take your grills off and hold them up to the light, you'll see how loose knit they are! This is to help transparency for the sound, basically, covering them for protection and looks without interfering with the acoustics too much. It would make alot more diiference than you might think! I buggered up the sound of an older set of speakers by doing the spray paint job myself,LOL. I'd be inclined to ask Klipsch reps/ tech support for suggestions, and doing a search on the net for grill cloth as a start. http://www.acousticalsolutions.com/products/fabrics/grille_cloth.asp http://www.speakerworks.net/grill_cloth.html http://www.newfoam.com/fabric1.asp OK , so I did a little searching myself.....
  22. I gave my old DLK Model 3 loudseakers to my son, know the 12's in them were in mediocre shape.... the seakers lasted about two weeks. Since hes into bass heavy music, I ended up getting a pair of Audiobahn AW 1251's for 42 bucks apiece at www.ikesound.com They are dual 4 ohm voice coils so I wired them for 8 ohm and with his Onkyo reciever (100 watts/chanel@8 ohm, but they'll do 4 ohm load easy per Onkyo) these things are shaken the friggin walls bad! and it's surpisingly clean for the price! ther're in the original encloser which has a 2.5" X 8" port. I think I may go to a 4" port and possibly face the rear with it....Its kind of a fun little experiment. Tuning the speakers for hip hop...never thought I'd see me doing this,LOL. I dont even like the crap,LOL. But now its a sick little challenge.
  23. He doesn't sell that at all, he just keeps collecting, always looking for more. What blew me away too was all this eqipment on display and hooked up and he is listening to the radio on an old time radio replica type thing. AM talk radio.....
  24. Was at a customers house doing a furnace tune up and in the basement......a Macintosh collection! He had 22 Mac tube amps and 12 solidstate ones. All the tube amps were old at least they looked it model 40's 60's 225's He also had old fishers, citations, sherwood and many others, it was impressive as hell. He said the vast majority work, some don't. His home theater consisted of VTL tube equipment and a big ol 225 MAC in the center, He had a wall of accompaning equpment to control and play it all. It was puuurrrty......
