  1. Until this weekend my HT was setup with Chorus II mains, Quartet center and RS-7 side surrounds. I had nothing better to do so I swapped out the Quartet with a Miller and Krisel center I had then moved the Quartet along with it's mate to the rear corners and wired them in place of the RS-7s. I think I like the package better but when using my NAD T-762 setup, I do hear quite a difference as it sweeps across the front (timbre) but the speaker sensitivity is close (+/- 1 db or so). Having only read of the fabled Academy, I was wondering if it was both desirable and possible to swap the RS-7s for an Academy? Thoughts?
  2. WS65711 You got it. I will include all the manuals, remote and dust cover. Are you interested in several reels of tape? E-mail me and we will work out shipping details. Please allow a little while as I am currently in the middle of a 28 day work week but I'll get it there. Both units are now spoken for, will advise if that changes.

  4. I am currently using a NAD 762 which works ok, but I liked my Sony TA-E9000es Pre/Pro and Kenwood KMX 1 amp combo better. The Sony died and I changed over. The Sony death is a very long story as it was under warranty and after one year of hassles and 3 dead units I gave up. I am powering Chorus II mains, Quartet center and RS-7 surrounds.
  5. I had one that just quit one day. It had been connected for two years in a spot that was never accessed. I fiqured the boggie man got it.
  6. Interesting topic,I have been in the aviation maintenance field for 30 years and this has been juggled back and forth. Markus, I have always been led to believe that for a proper solder joint the conductor should been tinned with solder first. However, if the purpose of the soldering you refer to is to encapsulate the joint rather then provide the electron path then I might defer. A crimping tool is required in order to properly seat the connection, a flat jawed tool cannot perform this task.
  7. Good people still exists in this world??? Great job, in this vain I'll offer help I can from the Atlanta, GA area. My day job is on the photo attached, what do you guys do?
  8. yea, that was me, I'm posting from work and forgot my home login. I would truly love to have the Academy but the wife has put both feet down and will not approve any "frivilous" purchases. In her defense, she is deaf in one ear and almost so in the other (not joking here, we've been spending some quality time lately getting eardrum rebuilds for her). And while I'm here, let me take the oppurtunity to apologize to several folks for lack of followup on the Academy dealings.
  9. Almost finished with the basement. Chorus II / Quartet mains, Miller & Kriesel center and sub. RS7 surrounds.
  10. I think you could look at page 17 of your owner's manual to find out why this is happening.
  11. BTW, the original post about the black academy on ebay......it went for $480
  12. While discussing the Academy issue with a co-worker tonight he informs me that he has a pair of one owner Heresys(Heresies)that he uses as lamp stands because he hasn't owned a music source in years. I tried to beg borrow or steal them to no avail. He comments that they are the only thing left of his single years and won't part with them. Maybe cold hard cash would do it....
  13. Thanks to all for the inputs and suggestions received thus far. In order to answer the various emails and PMs I have received, I submit the following information: I am setting up a combination media room and family area in my basement. The main room is 14 wide by 28 long and the ceiling drops from a high of 9" to a low of 8". I had intended to set up a 5.1 system for movies (62" Mitsubshi DLP as the display) and also incorporate a two channel system for my old vinyl and tape collection. I pre-wired the room this way and in hindsight probably should have went ahead and put in the speaker wire for 7.1 but I didn't as the wife entered the room waving the $3500.00 bill for all the wiring I had installed just as I was making the far runs and one thing led to another . I was going to use Chorus II's with the 2 channel stereo. For the HT, I was going with Quartets in front, RS-7s on the rear sides, Miller $ Kriesel S125C center and M&K V125 sub. I have plenty of rack space built in, recessed in the wall under the stair case, for all equipment to be housed so electronic space is not an issue and all cabling known to man (composite, component, DVI, HDMI, RG-6, S Video, fiber, firewire, 12 ga OFC wire, etc) ran from racks to where monitor/center/sub will be. So there I was happy working my behind off to finish when I started taking a break from the labor and visiting this forum again. That's where you boys and girls are to blame , as I got the itch to complete the Klipsch setup and taste the Academy center as I have never experienced it but felt I wwas missing something by not having it. I mentioned the desire the the bride and she ignored me and the fever kept building to get that center fixed before I hooked up in the new room. When I finally decided to bid on the one currently on ebay, I announced my intentions and was promptly put in my place "get want you want but you have no more budget left for that stuff". So I says to myself, self: sale or trade that stuff to get the prize Academy, be darned how long youv'e kept the old stuff around to listen to analog music. That leads us to my post to trade for a center and I received much traffic asking for info. To end this oration I will list what I have and if bored you can build my system(s), offer a trade or just kindly indulge me as I mix another adult beverage. A/V receivers: NAD T-762; T-752 Amps: Onkyo 2 channel M5060R; Kenwood KM-X1 THX Pre amp: Onyko P3060R Tuner: Onkyo T9090 Turntable: Technics (would have to go look at exact model, not important as I will use it) Reel to Reel: Teac X2000R Processors: DBX 400X, 224X (EDIT: changed from 200x) & 3BXIII; Sony TA9000ES, Denon DE-70 EQ again speakers are w/o Chorus II pr. w/o Quartets pr. RS-7 pr M&K S125C center M&K V125 sub Mike

Pair of one owner, mint Quartets with manuals, no boxes? ---------------- I can't bring another set of speakers into this house (I have seven sets and the academy). Post an ad in the two channel forum and they should go quickly. Make sure you post pictures. If you are interested in teh Academy, I will be refinishing it in a few weeks (have some other projects to finish right now). Chris ---------------- I understand the problem. My wife just finished telling me AGAIN that I COULD NOT spend the money as I have far exceeded her imposed budget on the basement media room that I hope to move into this weekend. She doesn't understand my desire to complete the Klipsch ensamble and finds nothing wrong with the M&K center I use now. My only choice is to trade off some of my collected gear. I guess I will have to take inventory of pre/amps/processors/reel to reels, etc and either post here for interest or just put up for sale on e-bay until I raise the funds.

Please leave it alone, come on you know you don't want it ---------------- I have an Academy in clear oak that is mint. There are some minor surface scratches on the bottom, but I am going to lightly sand and apply a few coats of urethane with finish sanding between coats. However, if someone wants it in oiled oak, I can apply oil (I would need to have a deal made first). I think a fair price is $600 considering the condition. (it will be perfect). This one on eBay should fetch that much or more. Chris ---------------- Would you (or anyone)be interested in a trade? Pair of one owner, mint Quartets with manuals, no boxes?
  16. I have my eyes on this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14992&item=5761708406&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)to match my Chorus II's and Quartets. Please leave it alone, come on you know you don't want it
  17. I have a set that I removed in order to mount the speakers high at the rear wall. Have no idea what they are worth. They are down in the basement and last I knew were in new condition. Make me an offer I can't refuse. Located in Dallas. Ga. Oppps, sorry, I read this at work and it didn't have my full attention, I have the Quartet bases.
  18. Raptor22: I pay for my toys from working the F/A-22 Raptor aircraft.
  19. I am considering selling one pair of Quartets and one pair of Chorus II's. I would rate them both 9.5 outta 10 only because there must be a ding somewhere. These have been in daily use since I purchased them in Germany thru the military exchange system around '92. Problem is I don't really know the true value, who knows what the ebay ones are truly like. I say considering as I may go with the RF-7s in front to give a few more inches breathing room and I installed RS-7s one the sides this weekend. The quartet's are in back for the 6/7.1 but feel I would never really use them.
  20. Will try for photos this weekend as I am running behind. Work calls.....Would love to try both places as suggested but the overhead mount will be an endeavor. I can't count on the speaker's exsisting keyholes for mounting in that position and Klipsch says thats a no-no. I must mount to 1x12 with screws/bolts thru back board and then attach 1x12 to catwalk. I am having bad enough time finding place for these RS-7 on the side much less the Quartets as suggested. Thanskl for the input. I'll check back with this thread time permitting and then when photos are available, see if it's still active or start a new one so that it doesn't slip away. I sure would like to get a minute free to at lease hook them up and listen for a while, will do as soon as the wife can get the 2 year old after for a while...busy hands and feet.
  21. I realize that without photos and dimensions this is fruitless and everyone has personal tastes but....due to very difficult room layout and ongoing lively discussion with the house boss wife, I will ask this anyway. Speaker system is Chorus II fronts placed 10 feet apart and 9' diagonal to couch, (M&K center and SW), with Quartets 18' behind & 6' above listening couch. I just received my new RS-7s for the sides today and need to place them. My choices are 4-6' behind couch and 6-7' from floor OR 2-3' to the side and mounted facing down on a walkway which is 9' above floor. The walkway is directly over couch. Which would you chose, behind or above listening area. I use my system for 5.1 movies and DTS music when in surround mode (just the Chorus II's for stereo music) but plan on trying the 6.1 and 7.1 matrix since the Quartets are already hung above the large picture window in the rear. Both placements will be P.I.A. but need to start pulling wire this weekend.
