  1. Can't blame you there!! Waiting is the hardest part, that's for sure. Congrats on the purchase. You'll be ing pretty soon. John
  2. I would first of all double check the manual and the menus, because "Both" for bass has got to be an option. If you run the wires the way I described, I would run only two (from the front pre-outs, and NOT the LFE/.1 out) and set the sub to "none" in the menu. This will force all bass below the cross-over, whether it be deep music or part of the .1 track, to the mains. Again, I would do this only if you can't set the bass to "Both". John

It will seem more punchy tuned higher... ---------------- Tom told me that it only affected the overall available output level. Since he was confident that I would be able to achieve 110+dBs w/ the sub tuned to 22Hz, I went w/ that. I figured I was sacrificing something I would never use and gaining slightly more extension. John
  4. Have you contacted SVS w/ this question? They will tell you how long it will last and how to best take care of it. Also, should anything ever happen, they sell replacement parts for their subs through their websites. Knowing how much care, pride, and time they put into their products, I doubt VERY seriously if you'll get any less time out of their driver than virtually any other driver, especially in the same price range. John
  5. I've got two comments. First, running the pre-outs for the fronts to the sub isn't a bad idea. You can have someone make your interconnects out of RG-6 for very cheap. (Hiding the cables is another matter though.) Secondly, ensure that your speakers are set to large when to trying to select "Both" for the bass management option. John
  6. My system is very similar to what you're describing. I use RB/C/S-25s and have an SVS PCi 25-31 that I had tuned to 22Hz at the factory. That thing is awesome. I am very well pleased with it. Email SVS and get their suggestions. They will shoot you straight and not try to oversell you. I also have one comment about your speakers. There is another alternative for your 6.1. Why not get 6 RB-25s? This will give you identical speakers all around and is actually slightly cheaper. Just a thought. John
  7. Congrats on the new toy. I would start trying to make some kind of effort to befriend the neighbors now. Find out what HER favorite movie is and have them over to watch it on your system. John

In other words when someone walks down a flight of steps in the real world, my windows don't rattle. Therefore, I don't want them to rattle when someone walks down a flight of steps in a movie. The only way a 9mm should knock me back in my recliner is if the bullet hit my chest. John

    new 10" svs??

Tom is supposed to let one of the more respected members of the S&V forums compare the new 10" to the Vance Dickason sub. Sort of a mini-shootout. A sunfire sub will probably also be in the mix, since he has one. You can check here for some details about how it came to be. John
  11. I love the Yamaha and Denon products. But the one I chose was the Marantz SR7400. I highly recommend you give one a listen if you can. I got mine new from an authorized dealer for $799. I'm absolutely in love w/ it. John
  12. I just saw this thread, or I would have jumped in earlier. Since you don't want a tube, I won't bother telling you how much I love my 24-31PCi, which I had tuned to 22Hz. What I will tell you though, is I believe the SVS PB1-ISD and the Outlaw LFM-1 will do a better job of blending with music than the RSW-12 will. I haven't heard a sub blend ANYTHING like my SVS blends w/ music. When it's playing, it absolutely disappears into the mains. When people hear it for the first time, they wonder if it's on. I then turn it off and they go, "Oh, it WAS on." John BTW, the one thing about the Outlaw/SVS link is that the "reviewer" owned an SVS then purchased an Outlaw. Generally, we're going to like what we just spent money on. I'm not saying the Outlaw is not better, I've heard great things about it. Just pointing that out, FYI.

I try to not swear but the bose subject gets me going. scp53 ---------------- I completely understand. I'm in the process of helping a local doctor redo his system. He's got a Bose Lifestyle system that I was hoping I could convince him to do away w/. He bought a Yamaha 2400 receiver which is going to power speakers in his kitchen and on his deck. The Bose will power his HT speakers and another couple of rooms. He's buying a pair of Quintets from me because of some wiring mistakes by the electrician. I'm hoping that when he hears them compared to those little cubes, he gets his eyes and ears opened. And those are the cheapest speakers Klipsch makes! John

BTW, I would prefer monopoles for movies and music, unless you had some WAF issues (which was my case), or if you had a REALLY bad placement scenario where you couldn't put the monopoles directly to the side. John
  15. The best thing you can do is offer to go to some fairly nice audio boutiques with them. Ask them to bring their own material, that they know very well. Have them start paying attention to the minor details that all of a sudden become very clear in good systems. For example, I've got several CDs where I can hear the singers breathe or mouths open before they sing now. I've started noticing entire instrument tracks that I never noticed before. This kind of thing probably will not show up very well in the Bose systems. Lastly, on movies, have them pay close attention to the dialog. I've heard that there are cases where the dialog is actually coming from the "bass module". John

I say get rb25s. they can be used for a seperate surr or stereo sytem later. they are probably better than rs stuff. the rs are not as discrete. but Ive never messed with rs stuff so don't take my word on that. but i do own the rb25s and they are AMAZING to say the least. and they should cost around 350-400. anything smaller would probably be too small. and anything bigger would be to expensive. or you could get the rf10s($400ish)but never heard those so agiain im not sure. scp53 ---------------- Scp53, you and I need to meet for a drink sometime! I think we'd get along very well. I was going to suggest the same thing for him. I will add that I have the RS-25s in my system, because the RBs are not available in white. They sound good, very good in fact, but I would still prefer monopole surrounds. John

    Bi-Amping

---------------- On 9/5/2004 10:34:34 PM Scp53 wrote: welcome to the forum. nice speakers you got. for Bi amping I say its not worth it. if its done wrong(example:the two amps tone/color don't match, etc) can make the music/audio worse. and when its done right the gains are subtle. so basically bi amping can do more damage than good(IMO-in my opinion). stick with a speaker cable to each klf30 and you'll be happy. thats what most people on this forum do. but Im no expert so wait for a second opinion. ive never messed with it and only heard about it. scp53 ---------------- I totally agree. You're going to have to do some out of the ordinary wiring there to do it too. For example, you're going to have to split the signal from the pre/pro to the amp so that the front left goes to the front and rear left inputs of the amp, and the same for the right channel. Then run the speaker wires. I'm pretty sure this would work properly, but I don't think it would be worth it. I'm also wondering if bass management would be a problem this way. John
  18. I agree w/ the previous posts. I have my cc about 1-2dB louder than the rest of my speakers. Also, some movies do soft voices very well (the LOTR series is quite for example) while others do it terribly (Godsend was about the worst I've seen). John
  19. Yea, it's long but it's VERY detailed. Some of the graphs are VERY interesting indeed. Especially the ones involving his before and after room treatments and the ones comparing a single sub to a multiple sub configuration in that room. John
  20. If you would like to see a great demonstration of what and how to do acoustic treatments to a room, and their effects, check out this thread. It's pretty impressive to see what he's doing and the effects it's having, especially on the bass response. John

The remote w/ the 7400 is the most flexible remote I've used yet. The LCD screen is large which greatly enhances this remote for me. This remote had more built in functions for my JVC TV and DVD player than my JVC receiver remote did. It's EXTREMELY easy to program macros into and "teach" it new functions w/ REAL names on the screen. To each his own though. John
  23. The Klipsch stuff looks cool. Guys, my thoughts and prayers are with you. May God put his loving touch on you. John
  24. Shawn, Yea I knew it would be, but it's the free version. I can't do too much to the room anyway, as it's our living room and it's very oddly shaped and open. John

    sub's home

It's hard to believe that a sub can "disappear" like that isn't it? My wife and I were both impressed when we started listening to our SVS, and it's a "22"-31PCi. I can only imagine what that beast you have sounds like. I know it gives you the SVS s for sure. John- Who's ing a lot too
