  1. I have had the Pioneer Elite DV-47Ai for about two weeks and I like it. The Burr-Brown is supposed to be excellent but requires 100-200 hours to burn-in (so I have been told). Bought mine for mid $500 over the internet and it marries up nicely with my receiver via I-Link.
  2. When I upgraded I looked at the RW-12 and an old stock floor model KSW-12 that they were practically giving away. The RSW-12 was out of stock and I wanted a 12 when I walked in the door. After about ten minutes of listening to both the salesman switched to the Sunfire JR and then to the RSW-10. The difference was amazing! Anyway, the guy said he had a RSW-10 that was exchanged for the last RSW-12 they had in stock and he could give it to me to 30% off as an open box demo. When I went to pick it up from the warehouse they could not find it and gave me a new RSW-10 instead. My HT room is 15 X 21 and the RSW-10 is perfect. After watching Finding Nemo on Christmas Eve I decided that the RSW-12 would have been overkill.
  3. If I remember correctly (?) all THX movies have an audio test page when THX is selected. That would work in balancing your system. Here is how I set up mine (please let me know if I am screwing up some where): I set the SPL meter to 80 db, slow response G weighted. I locate the SPL meter in the center of my listening triangle (the three seating positions that make a 4 triangle, (let me confuse you here )) about ear level on a camera tripod, mic facing up. I run the S&V disk, adjust the volume to a point where the first speaker is at +-0 and note the readings on the remaining channels. I then go to my systems manual fine channel adjustment page and adjust each channel (speaker level) up or down depending on my notes and retest using the S&V disk. You may need to go back and forth between the S&V disk and your system adjustment several times to get it balanced. I keep notes of all of my settings in a safe place because I am always tinkering with things and I have something to fall back on when I really screw up.
  4. We had a vendor come in and try to sell us something that looked exactly like this unit and it was supposed to stop electrolysis when two different types of metals are fastened together. The price was $495.00 for the unit and he had a briefcase full of affidavits from satisfied customers. The dink gave us one to try and when we opened up the outside cover there were just wires terminating into a block of cast lexan. Thats it; it was just short lengths of 16 gauge wires with the ends cast in a block of clear plastic. The sick part is we knew some of the satisfied customers and when we called them and told them about it they got really indignant and said we did not know what we were talking about and the product worked as advertised! It was clear plastic for Christ sakes!!!!
  5. Tom, Nice system but it seems to me that with a little AC/DC at even moderate volumes you would be vacuuming parts out of the carpet!
  6. My Pioneer says to plug in both the coaxial or optical and the analog connections as well. Does you SACD/DVD shuttle have Front/Surround/Center and Sub Woffer Connentions?

You can realy here the differnce. It was like going form prologic to dd. ---------------- Go with the 7.1, easy is right, almost all new movies are DTS and the new receivers take full advantage of it.
  8. I use the Sound & Vision but I did find that the Left Front noise on their DTS test was 2.5 db higher than the rest. At first I thought it may be my DVD or my receiver input for that channel. Then I checked with a disk I made on my computer a couple of years ago (dont remember what program I used) and found that was not the case. I then compared their other 5.1 and 6.1 tests and concluded that there is a problem with the disk in the DTS mode. I did find that the MCACC on the Pioneer works extremely well.

All his auctions end about the same time. Packing and shipping 300 items is a lot of work! ---------------- Im surprised he hasnt taken the grills of the speakers and selling them separately!
  10. Where I work everyone including management and staff has to take a hearing test yearly and I have the printout to prove that I am deft in one ear and cant hear squat with the other. But When I upgraded my system last month I looked at the Yamaha, Kenwood, Denon, and etc. The Yamaha was way too bright; in fact it startled me when the salesman switched to the high-end Yamaha while I was doing the comparison. The sound of the Pioneer was the most neutral to me I repeat, to me. To some the Pioneer probably sounds flat and Yamaha sounds Live. Its your money!

  12. I have been out and just wanted to thank you for the link. Happy holidays,
  13. Sorry, I should have said home office. I do have a fair job but anything larger than a cube (Bose, no, no, nooo) would run me out of my office at work LOL.
  14. Yeah, for a 2-channel system in my office. I spend 20 hours a week in front of my puter on web pages and such for my company and I loose a lot of sound through 3 walls and a hallway. Anyway, I was hoping that someone on this forum had the Heresys as I have had two bad experiences with e-bay purchases and I think that the folks who frequent these pages may be a little more, how should I say stand-up types.
  15. I looked at both 3 weeks ago and decided on the RF-35s. I now have all Rx-35s in my 7.1 system with the exception of the front surrounds which are RS-25s (the 35s would have been too overpowering in this particular location) and they are wonderful. Yesterday I finally received the Sergio Mendes and the New Brazil 77 CD that I have been searching for over 2-1/2 years and fired it up to 90 db in stereo mode (no sub) and was amazed by the fullness of the bass from these speakers. The female vocals were amazing as were the rest of the instrumentals. The CD is re-mastered out of Japan and you can tell the Stevie Wonder influence. Anyway, what ever ones you get, I doubt that you will suffer from buyers remorse.
  16. Hello all, As my post said Im looking for a good pair of Heresys for my home office. I always get hammered on e-bay so I thought I would try here. Would prefer mid-70s and I can afford $350-400 or so. I live in the Inter-mountain west (just west of no-where) so shipping will Im sure be quite high. Besides, my other choice would be KLH Model 4s and we cant have that. Happy holidays,
  17. I had the same problem. I traced it to the Monster THX certified sub cable (POS). Changed to a Rat Shack cable and no more buzz. Front RF-35 Front Center RC-5 Front Surround RS-25 Rear Surrounds RS-35 Sub RSW-10 Pioneer VSX-55TXi
  18. The Rx-35 Series is the replacement for the Rx-3 and will be the new models that your dealer stocks. My RC-35 is fine but I have heard of some rumblings on this forum. Front RF-35 Front Center RC-5 Front Surround RS-25 Rear Surrounds RS-35 Sub RSW-10 Pioneer VSX55TXi
  19. especially considering the adjacent wall is open to the next room. Possibly the best solution is to simply move the subwoofer. Artto, thank you for the reply. My drawing may be a little misleading. The two rear surrounds are actually sitting on an upright piano and that open area is behind the piano and starts at a point 51 off of the floor and extends to a point just below the ceiling and is more of a window. I see what you mean by not broadband absorption and I really dont have an echo issue; the room is pretty dead. On moving the sub what would be your suggestion? I originally positioned it behind the couch just ahead of that small 45 degree corner where it lacked definition. Then I tried the opposite 45 degree corner with essentially the same results. I think my biggest issue may be the wife. Horizontal traps my not sit well with her (may?) but I may try to switch positions of the sub and wall unit.
  20. Mr. artto You could possibly manage the time, could you pop on over to http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=42714&pageNo=1&num=30&sessionID={2AC5FB29-9ABC-4217-9813-259D4B634B1D} and give me your opinion?
  21. what is behind these walls Right now.rain. The other side is a patio and it is two story, cheaper to buy a new home. Seriously though I will buzz the architectural forum to see if he has an opinion. Thank you for the info.
  22. The thickness of these panels doesn't allow them to be very effective at lower frequencies (where you're experiencing your "problem"). How do things sound at your listening position? are the frequencies building up in the corner absent from where you're sitting? if so, then you might wanna consider bass traps...but they're alot bigger and thicker so that they can handle all the lows. and as artto always says...do "broadband corrections" I was afraid of that! They are generally fine until there is say multiple low frequency explosions then I can hear the build up. That said, most of the movies and music sound fine until you sit in that corner (yeah there is a rocking chair there that my mother sits in when she comes up to visit). What do you suggest for bass traps? Everything that I have found so far have been triangular shaped and do not lend themselves well to 45 degree corners. With all of the open archways, doorways, window walls and big furniture I have very little maneuvering room if you know what I mean. I can post some photos of the offending areas if that would help.
