  1. 8 ohm speakers on the 4ohm tap will get less power (about 2dB), but damping will be better and distortion lower. 4 ohm speakers on the 8 ohm tap, naturally, will get more power (about 2dB) but at higher distortion and with a lower damping factor. If you wire an 4 ohm resistor in series with an 4 ohm speaker to make a 8 ohm load, the power will be reduced even more (3dB relative to matched), and the damping will be terrible - not recommended. If you wire a 8 ohm resistor in parallel with a 8 ohm speaker, the power will be reduced more (3dB) but the damping will be improved.
  2. For what ever reason the bottom cabinets have been weathered outside. It takes rain and sun to get to that amount of decomposition and UV bleaching. Shame

Not Paramours, though, right? ---------------- Yes, these are indeed Bottlehead Paramour 2A3. While close to the kit build they are modified and a whole lot of attention to detail. You can see the entire build on my web site: Wardsweb's Paramour Construction Site By the way, these are not my speakers, but a friend of mine who I was expecting to chime in here about his system.

We're not talking a Pioneer SX-1250 pushing a pair of JBL L300's. Just a nice warm tone for normal listening. Like savoring a good glass of wine or single malt scotch neat.
  5. Not only do the speakers sound great with a 2A3 SET amp but they make a nice display pedestal too.
  6. These are nice tables, but with two known problems. One is the plastic gear on the drive screw for the tonearm breaks. Only cost $10 for the gear but it is a PITA to replace. The other problem is the hall effect sensor that regulates the speed of the platter opens. Luckily it's a dual module, so you can just move the wires to the other terminals. You can find out lots from this guy: http://www.beomuse.com/home.html

  8. The amp is coming from me. The builder is a very good friend of mine and kind of my DIY tube mentor. I built my 2A3 SET using a design I got from John. The man is phenominal when it comes to audio. As for the "Iron Giant", it is a sweet amp. Not only do you get that velvet SET tube sound, but with some guts. It has a strong bottom end and still mantains very good imaging. I believe in the amp enough to not have any problems selling it to a friend. That and he got a KILLER deal on it. He paid less than the cost of the iron alone. Enjoy Craig, I know you will be impressed. You should try pushing your La Scala's with it. I think you will be amazed. SET's and horns were made for each other.
  9. Folk Singer on vinyl played through tube driven horns is unreal.
  10. FYI - the system sold at the $12K asking price. Not by me, but the owner Mike Morrow says it's sold pending receipt of the cash.
  11. sorry, I'll have to do some digging on the wav file. that was done years ago. something I picked up on the net.
  12. These are really sweet. They had custom crossovers and the 2A3's did their magic with them. Man I love horns with tubes. (Sade)
  13. B&O table into a Bottlehead Seduction, Foreplay pre and Paramour 2A3's.
  14. You are correct sir. The subs are laying flat in the corners. The "monoliths" are Martin Logan CLS electrostats. The boxes on legs in front are 1961 JBL C38 speakers used for 2-channel audio listening. As for the R2R, I can not confirm nor deny any affiliation with certain "no-name" companies.

  16. A friend of mine has a Klipsch KPT-684 with his LaScala's for home theater. Anyone familiar with this sub? pro use?
  17. I had similiar weapons. Yes going to the range with a tricked out 1911A1 is one thing, but as soon as I would pull out the Ruger Super Blackhawk (wimpy 44mag stainless w/10" and Leopold site) and fire one round, the range would go quiet for a sec as people look to see what just went off. Still have the 1911 but sold the Ruger. I can go "plinking" all day with a 22 for fun for what one box cost for the Ruger. This one is fun but most ranges won't let you shoot full auto. Now here is a FUN day at the range
  18. Take the $50 you save from not buying a new one retail and buy a used table you can rob the motor out of.
  19. Don't you need the surrounds to go with those?
  20. Ok don't laugh, Peter Frampton - Live in Detroit on DVD is incredible. He was always a live heads up guitarist and even pushing 50, this guy can rock.

  22. Well Craig, you and Satriani should get along great because you both like ot rock. I feel for anyone within distance to your crankin Satriani on your LaScalas. Can you say LOUD? .....what can't hear you ......music's to loud... yes, I rock the house to Satriani too.
  23. Heard one at the last LoneStar Bottlehead meet. Actually was a nice amp played through some full range back loaded horns. Transcendent Audio SE/OTL amp, using 4 video pentodes in cathode follower mode per output stage. These have a choke loaded cathode coupled to the speaker with a 3300 microfarad electrolytic cap per side
