I'll be surfing on ebay for an hour or two before an auction finishes. I'm ALL SIGNED IN and ready to go for the last 30 seconds. I enter my bid....then ebay wants me to..... SIGN IN AGAIN??????? Whaaaaaat????? I JUST DID. It happened on a second auction....I even considered "re-signing in" before that final bid, but you only had a link to "sign out". Lost that one, too. ---------------- Yeah, I've had that happen to me also. It's because sometimes ebay will want to verify it's really you. To avoid this problem, open another browser window and make a minimal bid just slightly higher than the current bid, and submit it. This will take you through any possible 're-signing in' procedures. Then make another bid with your maximum amount, but don't submit it. Watch the bidding screen in another window and when the clock has run down low enough for you, then submit your high bid from the other window. This also let's you monitor the current high bid in case you decide to increase your final bid (which you shouldn't be doing). This always works for me.
  3. I used to dream about being kidnapped and having to satisfy the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders before they would let me go. Now I dream about trout fishing in the mountains.
  4. Thanks. I can probably figure where it needs to be lubed. But what should I use for the lubricant?
  5. I've got an old Onkyo automatic turntable that I occasionally use to play vinyl LPs. When I hit the 'play' button, the turntable lifts the tonearm, moves it over to the edge of the record, then sets it down and plays. The problem is that it obviously needs some kind of lubrication or something because when the arm moves over to the record, it makes a squeaking, groaning kind of noise presumably from the friction caused by the lateral movement of the tonearm at it's pivot. What should I use to lube it up a little?

In the additional title information: "Excellent choice for Klipsch phantom center". Could this be construed as inappropriate? In a previous sale: "Auditioned for over ten hours on Klipschorns --my best test instruments". Is this different from mentioning that the tubes tested like new on a B&K 700? I hope that the above examples aren't even in a gray area, but I hope for your opinions before a click that send button tonight. THANKS ---------------- Ebay has a rule against what they call "keyword spamming." Basically, this is the gratuitous use of brand names other than the one you are selling, just to attract hits when someone does a search for something similar to what you are selling. An example of this would be an auction titled "Bose speakers, better than Klipsch", which would cause the auction to show up whenever somebody did a search on "Klipsch". You can imagine how irritating that could be if there were a lot of hits. You can mention other brand names in the description if there is a legitimate reason, but you're not supposed to do it in the title. Ebay can terminate these kind of auctions if they get complaints. You should go to ebay and read their policy about it to get all the specifics. I'll try to link it in: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-keywords.html
  7. Actually, I have found this thread both informative and entertaining, and I have not seen anything IMO warranting it's removal thus far, so I hope it is not removed.
  8. I used some shrink wrap tubing on my banana plugs. They provide strain relief support and also can cover up part of the metal plug's body to help avoid accidental shorts. If you want a few pieces to experiment with, get me your name/addr, and I'll mail a few to you.
  9. I've already got scratching posts there. One of the cats uses them, the other prefers a 'scratch du jour'. I can't trust her.
  10. Help! I've got 2 ugly cardboard boxes in front of my RF-3II towers, and it looks really stupid. But the cats don't entertain ideas of turning the grille cloth into shredded rags that way. I don't know for sure that they would go for the grilles, but I don't want to take the risk. Anybody face this problem and come up with a good solution? Don't want to use repellent sprays, costly and toxic. Don't want to declaw cats. I'm thinking if I could find some black mesh wire screen deal, I could cover the lower part of the grille without it being too noticeable. Cats won't scratch anything real hard or that will snag their claws, like wire. Anybody????
  11. I removed the "E-bay Messages" from my ebay home page. They don't have anything to say that I want to hear. Another one of their stupid scams, or should I say spams?
  12. Once you get it set up, you should be good to go. As I recall, the only drawback to the 1803 that bothered me was the absence of an on-screen menu for setup, which is included on the 884/1804. But it's been awhile, I could be mistaken. .
  13. I picked up an AVR884/1804, which replaced the 1803, on ecost for $270 shipped, with a 90 day Denon warranty. It is very similar to the 1803. I have been quite satisfied with it, so I would guess you probably would like the 1803.
  14. Here's an ebay auction for a pair of RF-3II speakers. Well, I think they're RF-3II, they're called RF-3II in the title listing, but RF-3 in the description. Anyway, this guy says the woofers have a few perforations, but that they don't affect the sound at all: " There are a few perferations in the woofers but it does not affect the sound at all." I was just curious, does anyone know what the limit is on holes in woofers before it affects the sound playback? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3321&item=5748603009&rd=1

Something like that? ---------------- In other forums I have visited, when a thread goes extremely OT but is getting lots of action, the mod can put a post in the thread redirecting the OT posters to a new thread where it can continue unabated, and the original thread can get back on topic. This is usually done at the request of the original thread poster when they would like more responses about their original topic. If they don't care, then it just keeps going where it will go. Live and let live.
  16. SBC is trying to buy up AT&T. Didn't the Feds break up AT&T because it was basically a monopoly? So now we'll be back where we started 30 years ago, only the monopoly will provide worse service. Amazing.

  18. I can't decide whether to watch Smallville or Lost, which are in the same time slot here. Which one do you think is more likely to air reruns sooner?

I think that's a little excessive. Actually, I think it su@!$. Am I going to get a slap on the wrists for that one now? What will be next then - don't even "THINK" it? Uh-oh - beware the Klipsch Thought Police! ---------------- I have to agree with you. It is quite common to hear words like BS and pi$$ed-off, etc., on regular OTA radio and TV broadcasts. They help convey an attitude or meaning that would be hard to state otherwise. Does that make them profanity? Adults commonly use that kind of language in everyday conversations, and it is a world apart from the 'hard core' language you hear in bars, football fields, rap music, etc. The use of symbols like $@%, etc., further emphasizes the writer's attempt to not 'offend' the PC crowd, who can find any reason to feel offended or discriminated against. It is pretty obvious when someone is trying to make a point, and also pretty obvious when they have crossed the line and are intentionally being vulgar or lewd. This is the internet, not Sunday school, chill out.
  20. Some people are convinced bi-wiring and speaker cable an inch thick make a "huge" difference. Personally, anything past 5.1 is almost, but not quite, in that realm for me. At least at this point in time.
  21. My only thought about a 20-50 burn-in time recommended by the cable manufacturer would be that they are hoping the "break-in period" will postpone your returning the cables past the usual time where the dealer would take them back without any questions. Or you might forget about it.
  22. Dave------ How do you have your center channel set up?
  23. I have one and think it's a great deal for the money. Ecost was selling refurbed 884s, which is the same thing, for about $270 recently.
  24. That is ridiculous. I will never use their auctions now that I know how screwed up they are. What some people are missing here is that at a live auction, there is no 'deadline', so the sniping issue does not come up. But with an online auction, if there is no real deadline, why would anybody bid before the last five minutes and drive up the price? It wouldn't make sense. Overtime favors bidders that don't know what they're doing or don't know what something is really worth. Audiogon is ripping off the buyers.
