  1. Wow.... first off... Welcome to the forums. Sorry you are having issues..... Perhaps the amp could be removed and sent to be repaired..... Not sure where to source a new one.... I imagine install/ removal is not difficult...... Hopefully others will chime in with more info....... Good Luck!
  2. Yeah, KLF 30's would be nice..... If you wanted even smaller, I'd go KG 2.5s in front, 1.5s in back and a KG 2.5 center...... I have heard this setup. While it will not equal your other setup, you will still be satified...... These (2.5s) can be had for around $200 a pair on ebay, and 1.5s around $125....... You could easily stay between $500-$700 for the whole system minus the sub........ My .02....... Good Luck. Let us know what you wind up getting.....
  3. Well, I was able to pony up $140 for a used Onkyo Receiver on CL. It is an Onkyo TX SR702. 7.1; Dolby; 100wX7, Dolby, DTS, etc etc. http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=TX-SR702&class=Receiver&p=i This thing is a tank! My surround is seamless now. It allows me to set so many parameters my Kenwood did not. (Xover frequency to sub is a good example). The 2 channel stereo trumps my other receiver as well..... This thing is in mint condition; sold for $750-$900 in 05-06 when was new....... I wanted to thank everyone for their input.........
  4. My Kenwood is a VR407; does DTS and Dolby; currently running a 5.1 setup and 2 channel for music. (100w/channel x5) My sub connection (on the amp) is not functioning..... Hey; it was free..... I am looking for input for its replacement; but I am going to see if the sub connector needs resoldering..... Always checking CL; thanks!
  5. Good info; thanks! Now I have some research material....
  6. My current (external) card (Philips Aurilium, PSC805) has a digital line out as well..... Are you saying if I use this I should not spend $100~ on a new card as it would be little difference?
  7. Many good deals to be had...... I would return it and shop around...... You can find 2 50"+ tvs that will perform as good or almost as good as the one you have.... My .02 ........ YMMV.....
  8. Yes, It will be digital out as my receiver has an digital in...... Hopefully mine can "sort it out" well enough.....
  9. Microcenter has this one for a bit over $100.... http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0325334 Based on reviews; seems to be best bang for the buck. Odysseyrevolver; thanks for the reccomendation; probably would not have considered it as New Egg is out of stock..... Hoping my local Microcenter has this in stock..... Again, thanks to everyone else!
  10. Thanks for the responses! I like the Xonar because it is by Asus; my MOBO for last 3 computers were this brand, top notch. I checked the brands mentioned in other responses..... All seem to be much better than my current card..... I will do some more research...... Obviously money spent will be an issue; hoping to keep it under $125...... Probably will order this weekend...... Thanks again!
  11. I am also curious what's the best sound card for playing music/ movies..... I currently use an external Philips Aurelium; pretty decent; but am curious what I might be missing.... I found this one on New Egg by Asus; seems like it would be WAY better..... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132007 Suggestions?
  12. I was hoping for some comparisons; IE a member who may have had several brands/ models. I have heard good things about Onkyo and Denon. Wuzzer; thanks for the input......
  13. Well..... I do have a 52" 1080p sharp tv, and also have my pc hooked up as a media center. hdmi not necessary; but would be nice..... My goal here is a receiver that maximizes the sound quality. Something that is definitely better than what I have; and will not cost me an arm and a leg. I get that tubes can outperform ss very often, but I need something that does great 2 channel AND good 5.1 as well.... Side note..... I have 80 gigs of music and slowly have been re converting to at least 320kbs mp3s; as anything less loses a lot of depth and clarity.... I knew about lower mp3 quality = less sound quality, but this really became apparant after I got my Heresies.... It
  14. So, Here is my question...... I am wondering what the best receiver for (relatively cheap) the money is. I get this is subjective. I think my receiver is decent, but am wondering what the best all in one receiver is for under $300. (See siggy)..... I want something that can do 2 channel and 5.1 nicely.... I want something that is better than my current Kenwood. I am probably asking for a lot, but I respect all of your opinions. This could be a used model, as I realize there are huge savings over new...... Opinions?
  15. Ben, I have recently been tinkering with my setup..... (See my sig). Anyway, I just changed the rear surrounds from the OHM Model E Bookshelves to promedia 2.1 satellites. ( powered from my receiver). You know; this sounds really good also; and saves a lot of room..... I am considering mounting on the wall behind the couch...... Long story short.... I believe your KG .5s will function well and sound better than you think...... Good Luck.....
  16. " I will attribute a large part of my renewed passion for music to the fortuitous purchase of a pair of Heresy's. That was my downfall as well.............. now I'm hooked " Mine started with Promedia 2.1s, but REALLY got started with my Heresies....... So.... Me three.....
  17. My vote goes for Bob Crites' sonicaps.... Though I have not heard others; the improvement is substantial. I am very pleased. Thanks Bob![Y]
  18. Cheapest price: Icehouse....... Cheap when on sale: Corona or Heinekin.... (Costco has 24's for $20 more or less)...... Also Regular Modelo or Negra Modelo when on sale....... Bud Select and Bud Wheat is pretty good as well......
  19. Boudreaux; My .02..... I did this about 2 weeks ago. I did one speaker first and did a comparison.... the new capped speaker was slightly quieter, yet cleaner, smoother...... The older sounded silghtly harsher.... Now 2 weeks later; these thing sound so much better.... (I believe it took a bit to break the new ones in; my opinion).... I bought mine from Bob Crites (BK Electronics); off of Ebay.... super fast shipping. Also, well priced, around $45.... He is top notch!!!!! [Y] The old caps were big metal ellongated tubes; the new ones are much smaller cylindrical shaped. I just cut the wires as close to old caps as possible; stripped down and soldered the new one on. Also came with plastic mounting bracket to use with 2 of the 4 existing screws where originals were mounted. I say you will be happy with the results.... I sure am! Good Luck!!!!! Next will be the K28 (equivilent) woofers Bob has for sale...... My question is: I still have the old caps; is there any value in keeping these (perhaps if I ever sell my Heresies)... Or just toss em?
  20. If it were me, I would be taking $2000 and looking on Craigslist or Ebay.... Brand new Heresy 3's can be had for under$1100 on ebay...... But even sticking with the models you are looking for, wthere is more money to be saved than what your dealer has offered. ( Not that it is a bad deal.... something to be said for new stuff...... )
  21. Likely the other pair had a bad internal connection...... Glad you got it straightened out! [H] They will sound better in 3-4 days.... trust me! Good Luck and Enjoy![]
  22. Dean, You could try changing the left and right rear speaker connections (swap them) and see if the problem follows the speaker.... If it does not it is likely something with the setup. Does your center have rubber feet attached to it? I am pretty sure remounting it or moving it to the floor (just to test) will solve your problem..... Good Luck....
  23. I suspect you will be happy ultimately.... [] As an FYI.... Found a lightly used pair for $60.... Not sure if you are around Chicago..... http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/ele/1522926447.html (I am not related to seller.... Just on CL alot)...... Let us know how it goes.... And good luck with the gift returning.... []
  24. Yeah.... I need to get out by you to visit the Goodwill and yard sales and such! [8-|] Nice finds for nice $!!!!! -[Y]
  25. Good Evening, Do your speakers have plugs in the back? (Instead of being hard wired like the new Promedia 2.1's). If they have plugs, try switching them, to see if the problem follows from one side to the other. If no plugs, switch your speaker wires (left to right side and right to left) where they connect to the amp..... If the problem follows, (you can get both speakers to work off of the one wire) it is most likely a blown fuse, DIN cable or channel on your amp... Is your DIN cable seated properly? If you touch it, (near the connector in the amp/subwoofer) does it crackle and sound scratchy/ staticy through the speakers? If so, this is a symptom that it is possibly the cable...... For awhile I could move my cable to get both sides working again......Finally went bad and had to replace; Radio Shack had them 3 years ago. This is a known issue; they now sell repair kits on Ebay, and I think here also.... FYI, it is a pretty easy fix...... I am no help if it is the amp, as I have never had to address this...... If the problem does not follow, you have a bad satellite. (Unlikely, but I have heard the female plugs can go bad). This response probably is not much help, but at least you can narrow it down a bit..... Good Luck......
