  1. Now we're talking. Country doesn't have to be "country" .
  2. Is this the 'drove my Chevy to the Levy" part. Hope so cause I really, really like that part. Am I right? Pick up where Gil left off....
  3. Not afore ya leave me a toe-tapping musical selecten, ya don't.
  4. Spaceman, sned me a plane ticket and a large check (ok,ok a ticket and a small paycheck) and I'm there! Go Chuckears. I new somebody would get it rolling.
  5. Ok it's a long weekend and things are getting a little scratchy in General so let's try this out to amuse ourselves. Let's work our way through the entire lyrics of that great classic "American Pie" You know, "drove my chevy to". Even though I'm starting this topic I'm kinda embarassed because for the life of me I can't remember the first line. Somebody want to get this going? Oh, PS don't forget to help the twins out up in 2 Channel with a little country music. Thanks.
  6. Now, shucks, Frank, ya'all new the Sheriff would ride into tonw didn't ya. Now we're in real danger of losing the Twins to the Doublemint Corp. Country, people. Ain't that hard. Sure they liked the song about going fishin (I'm gonna miss her) but guys I'm half way through my Conway Twitty collection and they are starting to get real restless.
  7. I may be in a little trouble again. Were having a hoedown at a friends barn in the Shenandoah Valley this weekend. Theres plenty of hay to sit on, a buckboard for a stage, the pig hass been cleaned and racked, and will be roasting on an open pit all day under a hardwood fire. One problem though, the band, called the Hoboken Hillbillies got into some corn likker, took a wrong turn and now theyre down a holler somewhere. I think theyve fallen and cant get up. I've thrown a couple of KG rockers and an old Pioneer amp in the back of the 49 Ford flatbed and I was already to head out when the twins got a look at my country and blue grass collection. Tickles is pouting and Tawny is frowning. Until they saw the cds they were bubbling and frolicking with anticipation. Tickles looks really great in her daisy may outfit with her blond braids set of with little daisies, and Tawnys wearing a real Dale Evans cowgirl outfit. Just threw a keg in next to the speakers. Dont let me down folks. Mosey on down and throw me a lifeline with some foot stompin, legs atwirlin country corn. Lets go!
  8. Robert, in today's Washington Post classified's there's an add for Klipsch Cornwall II, exc. cond., unfinished birch cabinent $700. He also lists a Nagamichi TA-3, high def tuner/amp w.remote control, perfect conditon for $300. Number is 703-470-6260. Depending on where you live this may be drivable for you. If you need to I could probably pick them up and hold them for you since I live in Northern, VA
  9. Thanks Hootin for keeping this going in my absence. Once I get organized a little bit I have something to try that should bring us some more participants. Let's try: Shelby Lynn, "I am" Cd, alt country. She started out as pure country but I didn't discover here and fall in love until I got this cd. Superb. Her sister (can't remember her name) is also supposed to be very, very good.
  10. I've got an orignal Scott 299 with a Craig rebuild and boy is it sweet! A lot of folks much more knowlegeable then me on this and other stereo boards, consider the 299 series the best work ever put out by Scott. Good hunting and let us know how it turns out.
  11. Sw teh trailer two weeks ago and am very excitied. Loved the old Flash Gordon shorts, Cpatin Video etc. and one of my favorite movies is still Orson Welles "The Shape of Things to Come"
  12. Just got back into town but I also want to add my good lucks and best wishes for a safe return.
  13. Lucinda Williams whose an alt-coutnry rocker type. Great pipes and Concrete Blonde featuring Jonette who has the most awesome pipes on the plantet.
  14. Sorry to hear that. I've lost two dogs over the years and it hurts like hell. The pound is a very good aprroach, just take your time because some have been abused badly and may not be able to overcome their problems even with love and care. The best dog I ever had, by the way, was from the pound.
  15. Good one Neo! Kept me out of trouble with the twins for awhile, but you know....
  16. Very cool! congrats on your sucess. I haven't tried any of the really fancy stuff so I'm not convinced they play much of a role in improving sound, but probably provide benefits in terms of shielding. I have tried good quality lower price interconnects and quite frankly can't tell a difference. Good way to go though and a nice rainy day project.
  17. Great story Neo! Glad you dug it up for us. Love the mention of that great old song "the Banks are Made of Marble". Written by a fellow named Les Rice who was an upstate New York apple farmer turned labor activist under the Wobblies (International Workers of the World. Every time I'm stuck in a line at the bank I find myself humming that song. Here's the full lyrics: I've traveled round this country From shore to shining shore. It really made me wonder The things I heard and saw. I saw the weary farmer, Plowing sod and loam; I heard the auction hammer A knocking down his home. CHORUS: But the banks are made of marble, With a guard at every door, And the vaults are stuffed with silver, That the farmer sweated for. I saw the seaman standing Idly by the shore. I heard the bosses saying, Got no work for you no more. But the banks are made of marble, With a guard at every door, And the vaults are stuffed with silver, That the seaman sweated for. I saw the weary miner, Scrubbing coal dust from his back, I heard his children cryin', Got no coal to heat the shack. But the banks are made of marble, With a guard at every door, And the vaults are stuffed with silver, That the miner sweated for. I've seen my brothers working Throughout this mighty land; I prayed we'd get together, And together make a stand. FINAL CHORUS: Then we'd own those banks of marble, With a guard at every door; And we'd share those vaults of silver, That we have sweated for. 18. For one of those the twins better do more than ask!
  19. Scott Bonnet's! The only way to go when making jerk sauce. A moist, rather then a true dry, rub is the best for jerk. Picky, with all those hot sause bottles and chili around the house the methane your household produces could probably solve the energy crisis. Frank's Hot Sauce, and from an upstater no less! Scandelous. Anchor Bar Original is my still my fave.
  20. Sounds like you have all the bases covered Dodger, good explanation. I'm suprised nobody's mentioned Leo's recommendation for the Belkin line conditioner. To me it sounds like a lot of bang for the buck, but keep in mind this stuff is a little esoteric to me.
  21. After a lot of cajolery the twins have agreed to say a few words. First up is Tickles. Whooooeeee, whooooeeee! Tickles please get off the trampoline and come over here. Thanks. Ok Tickles, say hello to the nice folks Oh like where did all the creepy looking rockers, geeks and old guys come from! Now these are the nice fellows who help us out with music every week Ohhh, I LIKE music! It sorta like champagne you know like the bubbles make my nose tickle. So what do you think of Thebes? Hes funny, I like rubbing his head, an he buys us stuff, takes us dancin and even took us to see that Randy Dangerfield guy, whose, you know, even older then Thebes. Can I go back to the trampoline now, I like the way my ponytails jump up and down when Im going really high Sure you can Tickles but can you get Tawny to come over here she looks a little cross and I think I[m in trouble again. OK, bye guys! Er, Tawny say hello to the fellas. Talk to this bunch of maroons. Sure stare, in your dreams, look that one guys got drool running down his chin. Um, Slammin do something about that would you. So Tawny, what do you think about Thebes? Hes a worm, and a very, very bad boy. Arent you Thebes. Tawny please could we talk about that later. What else should they know about Thebes? Well hes got nice stereo gear, but its waste on him. Hes got a 3db spread between his left and right channels, poor room placement, a ground loop hum and ignored Leos suggestion for a line conditioner. Can we go to a club now? Sure we can but dont you want the fellas to help us out with some music for the weekend? Yeah these guys do know something about music. Ok clowns, listen up Im only going to say this once. I want the favorite three records in your collection. Well what are standing around for, Im waiting. (sound of stiletto heals rapidly receeding) Oh boy, you guys better really help me out now, or I wont be able to sit down for a week. Hurry up will you shes coming back!
  22. 7k a pair. Hopefully that's in pesos, or sheckels or soemthing with a really nice exchange rate. If not, I'm sure you'll be happy to front me the dough. I'm good for it. Honest!
  23. Look's like they are pretty busy. Do think if I show up at the back door they'll give me a free sample?
  24. It's summer, it' slow on the Board so let's spice things up. What's your favorite hot sauce or other burning/spicy concoction? I'll start with: Anchor Bar Original Buffalo Wing Hot Sauce From the restaurant that invented the buffalo wing in, suprise, Buffalo, New York. So what get's you to reach for a pail of water, or better yet, a bucket of beer?
  25. Jdm, try "nightwish" by Wishmster, you may change your mind-purchased this thanks to a recommendation from a fellow forum member. Also consider, Jennifer Warnes "the Well" soft with a country feel, also purchased based on a member recommendation. For coutnry try alt-country rocker Lucinda Wiliams. Saw her in concert last weekend and she's great.
