  1. Who would want to use that clunky piece of crap from Ripoffsoft anyway. Mozilla that's all you need, and get Spam Pal for filtering the spam.
  2. Thanks for the link Matt. The Admistrator sounded pretty firm, but I'm hoping they will rethink their stand.
  3. I'll take a look under the hood for them. Thanks, again.
  4. It's a Technics, but I've also tried in on a Yammie and a dvd player. The static is on both speakers, definetly caused by the amp. I've tried switching between the A&B hookups and input sources on the back to no effect. I've cleaned the pots, and turning volume, bass, treble etc. has no effect. There are four fuses which are fine and have cleaned those contacts just to be sure. Most likely something internal.
  5. Sorry. The source is a cd changer so it's obvious the switch is not the problem. It's off to the shop for this one. Thanks, though, it's nice to know what the switch is for.
  6. Mr. McGoo, so what your basically saying is the old garbage in, garbage out, not as far the artists effort, but to try to rescue recordings that were either not done well originally or the tecnology was lacking at that point. In other words we'll never really be able to fully experience what someone, oh say, Edith Piaf, really, really sounded like. I guess either now or in the near future all music will be mixed in both 2 and 5 channel from the git go. At this point I only have about 4 or 5cds in DVD-A or SACD and so far I'm not that impressed. I guess it could be the player but I suspect these formats have a ways to go.
  7. Hey Larry, I'm not talking about moving the thread, just dodging the coppers. They may think they are in control but we've got plenty of hiding places they probably don't even know about. Just kidding Steve, thanks for your nice comments, and yes alert the corporate suits. I also like Paris Hilton's I'm a cute bad girl act, nice pegs too! Ok. If we're going to be here for a while how do these topics sounds: What's your favorite Song while singing in the Shower? What tunes do you hum at funerals? Is the Drum Solo in Indagodda da Vida too long? (always thought that was an Italian group) Come on guys, let's get cracking. We could end up as the bad boys, hanging out, wearing pegged pants, ducktail haircuts, rolling our own butts. Pretty soon the bad girls will start coming by. We'll whisper the words to the Duke of Earl in their ears. Anybody got a Heavy Chevy we can cruise in?
  8. I've got a Setton Reciever that is making constant static and occassonal poping noises (almost sounds like listening to an am station without the antenna hooked up). I presume it needs to go the shop, but before I take it in I have a question. On the INSIDE of the case there is a switch that has two settings 75 and 50 with a funny looking u/y (can't remember what the sign stands for) next to the numbers. I thought I'd try flipping this switch to see if it would solve the problem (it's currently set to 75) but I'm not sure if I would do more harm then good. Anybody got a clue as to what this switch does? Additional background: It's a Setton RS 220. Tried the usual, checking fuses, switched the cord, no similiar problems on other amp/receivers on my setup etc. It appears to be switchable from 110 to 220. Currently set on 110.
  9. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly ride again on cd. Remastered in 24/96 by Columbia it sounds great: battling trumpets, great whistling; a full orchestra. I promise you the trumpet solo timed (in the movie)with the the big gun battle will get you right up out of your seat. Here's the real hoot. No liner notes just three pictures of the eyes only of Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach squinting hard right before the guns blaze. Awesome. It doesn't have huge replay value but you'll sleep better at night knowing it's nestled in there somewhere amongst your collection awaiting the right moment or mood.
  10. Johnette has the best set of pipes I thnk I've ever heard. True story: My friend is their biggest fan. After we saw them in Washington, DC last summer he decided to fly out to St. Louis figuring this might be their last tour. Well, before he goes, he emails her with his first and only fan letter, heaping praise on her and mentioning that he's a musician himself (used to be a very good local band). Goes to St. Louis shows up at the gate and asks for his will call ticket. What he gets are the best seats in the house and a backstage pass! Parties down with her afterwards. Not bad, huh.
  11. Oh, Oh it's the fuzz just when I was going to start talking about religion. I mean what's your views on Animists, good or bad? Time to amscray (psst.. guys meet me up in Klipsch en Espanlol. We can talk about Franco and Peron and nobody will find us there. I'm off to Spain)
  12. I use two different sets of banana plugs on my dual amp setup. One using a side loading connector is used for my 2 Channel Amp and is the first one into the rear of the speaker. The second, for my HT, is a back loading connector banana type and simply plugs into the back of the first banana. Both cost about $4 a pair from www.partsexpress.com. IMPORTANT! If your using an older receiver make sure there is a load on it from the speakers. My Sansui 5000 (circa 1969) explicitly states in the instruction manual to never turn on the receiver without speakers connected. This may or may not be true today, but when I was growing up the first rule of hi fi was to always have speakers hooked up before powering on. One other caution, if for some reason to pull one receiver, also pull that receivers speaker wires at the same time. Did not do this recently and my modern Denon's protection ciruit kept kicking in until I pulled the speaker wires.
  13. Great review, and I'm glad to have it. Huge Stevie Knicks fan, she always gives me goosebumps when she sings. Given all the other holes I have to fill I think I'll pass on this one because I have the last Mac and also have her Wild Heart(great cd IMO).
  14. Cool! I'll track it down, give it a listen and let you know what I think. Thanks
  15. I'm in Reston a few miles west of Tysons Corner. Looks like the O's may finally take one from the Yanks tonight.
  16. Can't help you but I am intrigued. What style of music, recording quality etc. Always on the lookout for some new music.
  17. Jeez, even the moderators can't find us down here. We could have a Get Naked With Your Khorns party down here and no one would notice. I've got the Muscatel, anybody got any naked Khorns. Off to the Pizacato thread.
  18. "I dont' want a pickle, just want to ride my (Khorn) motorcycle. Hey I don't want to dieeee, just want to ride my (Khorn) motorbikeee!-Arlo Guthrie Come on you Weenie. Take a stand. You want the K's go get'em. It's just the litle woman standing in your way. Be a man, show her what your made of. PS. Dear Mrs. Mandi, please notify when the services will be held. I hear the court case is going well. 10 women to 2 men on the jury-excellent!
  19. I'll keep trying to launch threads here but bear with me, my music taste is somewhat bizarre. See my latest post this Section.
  20. The Fugs-counterculture rockers with a hilarious edge. Who can forget Coca-cola ******. Lost track but come to find out their still around. Put out a new cd just last year-The Fugs Last Album Part 1. Only saw them once at the Newport Jazz festival in 1969. They wouldn't event hink of letting them play so they hung out around the main gate and played for the hundreds of us without tickets. I had a gallon of cheap red and they had some Mary Jane. Spent some time in their VW van and had a ball. Anyone here like these cats, or seen them play?
  21. Chuck, don't go. I like what you try to do here. Just went through your last 10 posts and enjoyed them all. I'm sorry you've been beat about the ears a bit (pun). I think if you review those posts yourself you'll see you got a warm response and great feedback. Obviously I don't know about the rest of it but I do know this can be a contentious and argumentive family. Some of my own comments in an attempt at humor have probably bombed or inadvertantly hurt someone, and some of my posts have been essentially hijacked by others with decidedly firm opinions. On the hwole I find this a wonderful place to hang out. Stick around! PS I see you're a chef. What's this infusing stuff all about?
  22. My one mantra with anything mechanical is: "When all else fails read the instructions". I'm convinced that the real reason anybody invents anything mechanical is so the people they sell it to can immediately take it apart and start playing with it. If the T-Man wants to take his toys apart and share his musings with us about what he came up with I'm all for it. Go T-MAN!
  23. Thanks Larry. That's what I'm trying to get going here. A short while ago in one discussion up on 2 Channel I suggested that some of the sections in Home Audio could be combined, and lo and behold it happened. I'm not saying I was the catalyst, but maybe it helped. I'm not claiming my music threads instrinsicaly hold the interest of members, but the three I've posted in 2 Channel got a much larger than anything I've posted here. Anybody else with some ideas? comments?
  24. Come to think of it Amy you're packing too! I hear bullets are known to bounce right off of those, shall we say, extended, bellies.
  25. I know this is primarily a gear site, but the gear is the means to get to the music and movies. Movies get some play here but music threads seem to die, die, die. Should we ask that this section be moved up to Audio and the Games to Promedia? Should we cross post. Any suggestions, ideas?
