  1. OP... check the import sources. They are making and selling sacd's by the boat full
  2. I see... I understand supply and demand and the consumer/market doesn't always choose the best solution. Frankly, no format is the best format... either streaming or download with no hard copy save for whats on your HardDrive. best get use to that, because that's where we're going for everything including TV, movies and music. the few high Def downloads I have bought are pretty good, but I still like a hard copy... for now anyway
  3. Onkyo user here to... 806(S model) for about $530 shipped. I am still wondering how to hook up pre outs... anyone?
  4. http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2009/03/record_store_da_1.html http://www.recordstoreday.com/Home Record Store Day - a nationwide event created to support independently owned record stores - will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2009.
  5. Yes you can play CD's on SACD player... they are actually DVD players. Check out the onkyo sp506 dvd player. It samples 24bit @192hz and has three Burr-Brown DACs, and wil play most all your favorite formats... $215 shipped on B&H. I wont be using the dvd myself. I would even be getting this unit if someone could confirm playback specifications on the ps, but no one can so. Downsampling is the process of reducing the rate at which something is sampled. eg 2.8mhz is more than three times the rate of 44khz,which is where most player reside. The bit depth is also broken down into more pieces on sacd/dvda so in total you are looking at a technology that has more resolution... more bit depth and at a higher rate. Think of it as an X and Y axis... If bit depth is Y, on a CD this vector is broken down into 16 pieces...on SACD it is broken down into 32 pieces or bits.. The X axis is the rate at which an object is moving along or being sampled... CD will move along at 44hz... SACD will move along ar 2.8mhz So you can see that each individual picture being taken at any single instant during music sampling has much more resolution
  6. I may be inclined to agree... but your DAC is really important in this mater(obviously). I am still learning myself about all this stuff.
  7. That's funny because I see sacds commanding high prices. and while the manufacture of the disks is hit or miss.... over seas suppliers seem to be flowing with new title. The Pixies just released two new sacds, Doolittle and Bossanova and Genesis has the new version of Nursery Crime
  8. I found out the PS3 plays sacd's fine... but no one can still tell me for sure if they are being down sampled. I am pretty sure they are and despite sounding much better than regular cd's(a/b'ed the), I still want more. On to a dedicated player for me. I think many are not realizing that sacd's and dvda's will play on many players already out in the market... but that signal is being down sampled, that defeats the purpose IMHO.
  9. Kodachrome was one of my favorites to... from the last time I used the stuff in about 1992 at about 1/8of the fully resolved original picture size. the stuff was always rich in color depth
  10. I have the opposite advice... get the Onkyo. I am sure both are really good options. I love onkyo products
  11. For for the album is the only way I know how to find them. it's been hit and miss so far, though there are some areas in the world where sacds continue to be offere and catalogs continue to grow
  12. Happy birthday Bob, another successful trip around the sun. I just had a short conversation with bob about speaker repair... []
  13. Thats a pretty complete and thurough description.[Y] FYI... the SP506 Onkyo unit I talked about above is only 200$ shipped from B&H... i would skip the purchase if I could find that teh PS3 was giving me all that I wanted out of the sacds... but I can not get a straight answer on play back, so I am going to make the dedicated player purchase.
  14. I am just a newbie here, but one thing I do know is that sacd's sound great on my onkyo sr806 and heresey conbination... so much so that I am buying as many sacds as possible and investing in a SP506 dvd player that will have sacd and dvda capabilities at 192hz in 24bit depth. I just got Fragiles by yes in sacd on friday... I played it this morning on my ps3... awesome sound quality. I cant wait for 192hz and 24 bits
  15. You know what I just discovered, is that if I switch my playback type from my ps3, I get tremendous mum and buzz. but If I keep it off 7.1 my system is very very quite. not sure if this helps... but I didnt notice this about playbeack choices just this weekend
  16. I buy ALL my stuff online, I have yet to be dissapointed by anything, but I do a fair bit of research prior ot buying. Post Script..You're going to love your Hereseys
  17. I think I am into that DVD.^^.. My personal fav is Pornography
  18. Nice.... I am learning something new everyday
  19. thank you... quality in which way, frequency response/range? I was looking at older analog units... highend maybe pioneer vintage. What I dont want is to add hmm or hiss to my set up.
  20. Thanks for all the responses... the main reason I was asking is I am looking at some vintage highend units...I am thinking that it might be better to go with new digital units though. any input from anyone?
  21. Beautiful... though I would never buy a dodge product
  22. Are Graphic Equalizers Obsolete? I see many system descriptions and many times they do not include an EQ... in this modern age are they obsolete with modern pre sets that are availible? thanks
