  1. Hello, I have a friend of mine that would offer $2,300.00 and pick them up. Interested? Roy

God I Wish I had your problems ---------------- And if the most gorgeous one shoots you down, go right down the line. Think of Burgess in Grumpy Old Men. Don't worry, be happy. Fate has a way of setting things right.
  3. Picky. Nice review! I do not have the DVD as I am a 2 mchannel, tube, vinyl kind of guy. But I do have the dance cd, and love it. It is just Say you will, that I find disapointing. That being said, it is still a better listen than some if not most of the new artist of the past several years. I sound like good ole dad there. lol

I hope Fred Klipsch is smart enough to balance bottom line and quality. Look at caddilac Now a glorified chevy. ---------------- I hope so too. It is a tough balancing act to be all things to all markets.
  5. I was wondering if anyone other than myself finds the new Fleetwood Mac release disapointing? I have enjoyed the Mac for years, but without Christine Mc Vie the sound and overall quality of the release is disapointing. Still better than alot of the new artist of today, but not quite Mac standars IMHO.
  6. Welcome to Vinyl. Tubes vinyl and horns, thats the stuff that sends chills up your spine. Spend as much as you can afford and then a little more for the best cartridge and arm. It is money well spent.I am partial to the Lyra Helikpn and SME 300 combo, but find what works for your rig. I also use the mullards in my stage. ENJOY and WELCOME BACK TO GROOVES.
  7. BS? I still stand behind my view of this debate. As far as "wishing I was doing what you are doing when I was 20", wrong again. Those that know me can attest that we are doing OK in life. Advise when based on theory is without experience is suspect at best. No, I still choose to follow direction from an "old bull" vs a "young bull" anyday. I still follow these two rules: (1) THERE IS NO ADVANTAGE TO DEBT (2) THERE IS NO UNSTRUCTIONS ON A DOLLAR BILL.

In my example of why not all debt is bad all the figures are just given as examples so you can see where I'm coming from. I know that earning a constant 6% is tough right now and that cars are lousy investments. Anyway, Good Luck on your new home purchase. And when you get all settled in make sure to post some pics of the new HT room! ---------------- Neo, How goosh of you. In case you haven't noticed there is already some dialogue on this subject. But I am sure you would be able to tell the rest of us the reason behind such failures.
  10. Thats the problem with a lot of Compays today. The bean counters forget that in the end they are selling a product. Quality and value are interlinked to large degree. But in the end the customer has to get the quality and value he feels is justified buy the purchase price. Fixed or variable loans both have so called pros and cons. But my point is that niether is without cost. Cost that is a result of debt. Again the advice of good ole dad was : There is NO advantage to debt.
  11. Finance majors and Accountants have destroyed more good companys and products than any other reason that I know of. Make it cheaper, charge more, pay employees less, provide less benifits are some of the examples of the bean counter turned manufacturing enginner and/or CEO.
  12. ---------------- On 8/26/2004 9:57:44 AM neomartic wrote: I can think of an advantage to having debt. For instance, if you have the cash to buy a car, instead of paying for it in cash right then, why not pay over 4 years. If you have good credit and get a decent interest rate, lets just say 6% for example, then it would be wiser to take the loan and put your money in an investment earning above 6%, this would mean that you would be paying less for the car. Obviously this all depends on how much cash you have on hand and what investments are available to you at the time as well as your actual quoted interest rate. Any how, see my point? ---------------- What you said is listed above.

I'm not sure what your lack of thought response was supposed to do. Upset me maybe? I'm not sure. Either way, I know I'm young and I know that I've got a lot to learn and that college education can not compensate for actual experience, but I also feel that I can have an intelligent conversation with someone older/wiser/more experienced than myself. Maybe you feel differently. Sorry, didn't mean to insult you. Also, I don't want this to seem like I'm trying to take a shot at you, but most of my argument about speculation/investments was based on a finance professor I had who had his doctrine in the field. ~neo ---------------- Neo, You prove my point. Your position is based on hear say. A doctrine in the field does not mean that the views of that person are all knowing or even accurate for that matter. Before dulling out up proven advise to others, maybe YOU should get some experience. But then again there are a lot of folks that live vicarously thru others.

For this reason the saber is only effective as a close personal combat weapon. Obi Wan ---------------- Obi Wan, Acurate and useful info. Yoda would be proud. You bring honor to the Federation. Young Neo, Such rude comments as demonstrated in your post do nothing to endure yourself to the board.
  15. Neo, Silly me. I must have overlooked your many years of investment and life experience's. I wish you well in your future endevors. Life is sooo simple for young folks. It is us oldsters that have things mixed up. Hell, two engineering degree's and a sucessful compay have taught me nothing. I am glad you could enlighten me and this board. Again, humor me and refresh my memory as to your qualifications and experence's. Kind of reminds me of another saying that good old dad used. "Young, Dumd and full of C#m"

However, you must understand that investing and speculation are two completely different things. Investing requires research and knowledge about your financial commitments. You invest because you see a future return on your money. Speculation is no more than gambling. gullahisland, I was just using a car loan as and example. I along with everyone else in this forum know that a car is a bad investment and you'd be better off with a less expensive, used vehicle. As for a 6% investment, that too was just an example to show that some debt can be okay and you can benefit from it. However there are some pretty decent municipal bonds that you will be able to earn better than the current average returns and they are tax-free depending on where you live. In any case, it's hard to say where the market is going, but you know that historically if you invest and prepare for the future you'll be fine for retirement. ---------------- Neo, I fully undestand. But, your comments above a pure double talk. Investing IS speculation. Because one does research and has some knowlage about a particular investment somehow removes the risk (ie: speculation)? I think most Gamblers also expect to see a return on thier money, all be it in the houses favor to see a better return. I again refer you(youg bull), to the old, young bull story. This post kind of reminds me of the seceen in Back to School, where Sam Kennison is the professor lecturing about the VietNam war.
  17. None of it matters. YOU are NOT a Jedi. Spend more time with Yoda young Jebez, feel the force.
  18. Neo, You are ASSUMING that your investment will produce more than the 6% (one also must calculate Federal tax for investment earnings). I am not aware of any 100% safe investment. Many traders and speculators have lost everything beting on speculation. For a clearer, undestanding please see "Old bull, Young bull"
  19. I have 2 comments/advise. Both learned from my father (even though when he told me these things, I was 18 and knew everything ). Both are so true even though so SIMPLE. (1). There is NO instructions on a dollar bill. (2). There NO advantage to debt. Now I see the wisdon that comes with age. Kind of like that old bull, young bull story.
  20. One of the best buys for a outboard dac is the sonic frontiers TRANS DAC they can be picked up on audiogon in the #250.00 ~ $300.00 range new price was around $1,000.00 A jitterbug or reclocker in front of a DAC is money well spent. I use a jitterbug with the Sonic Frontiers DAC 1 (tube output stage)and have been happy with it. Both purchased on audiogon for under $1,000.00 several years ago. The tube output really smooths the edges of the digital format. Hope this helps.
  21. I am also close to the these (30 minutes). There is also a nice looking pair of Belles listed in Wisconsin Rapids (1 hour). If I can help anyone out please feel free to ask. Roy
  22. I would buy another BLUENOTE
  23. What is your budget for the cart? I have upgraded to the Lyra Helikon, and it was the best money I have sept in some time. I guess what I am saying spend as much as your budget will allow for the cart and arm. Vinyl and tubes, what a match from heaven. Roy
