  1. Shore does look purdy. I'll also recommend the FAQ section. I like to use "favorite" and "recommended" links on other sites... maybe you could incorporate sum'tin.
  2. Wow. I'm mad I missed this thread the first go-around. I don't remember my dreams all that often, however, when I do they are quite lucid. Quite often they can interfere with my daily life in that I can't remember if I "dreamed" something or it was "real." I do hear music in my dreams (as well as sometimes performing it). Most of the time when I wake up I will have a song running through my head and it will usually be something that I was listening to (or simply heard) the previous day. Sort of like a 'sound track' for my dreams. It can get really annoying if the song sucks. Last night I had a dream I was at an old friends' (coincidentally he was living in my old house in Gainesville,Fl from about 10years ago) and I noticed his guitar case was on the floor so I was asking him if he still played guitar much anymore -- he said no. But the kicker was that in all of the rooms of the house there were giant speakers blaring death metal... which was not too far from what really took place. When I woke up I had the Grateful Dead's "Sugar Magnolia" running through my head, more specifically the pedal steel lick Jerry plays. What's funny is I remember it being in DVD-A multichannel format, which, in keeping with my "soundtrack" mode I described above, that is one thing I was listening to last night.
  3. The MitsuTV remote has a "format" button on it somewhere as does your Dish remote. On the Dish I think it is on the bottom left and is the same as the "*" (star) button down by the numeric keypad.
  4. To use my favorite oxymoron... "Clearly obfuscating" I'm glad to hear my tax dollars are being utilized in an efficient manner.
  5. Well this topic got silly quick and it was certainly not my intention for it to go in that direction. Thank you to all who gave your real world experience -- you know who you are. I've been able to record a few more HD movies that I already have in my collection but I still haven't been able to watch any to compare. Maybe next weekend. Should be a fun experiment.
  6. The kid in the first picture -- haven't I seen the emblem on his sleeve on some mudflaps? His dad must drink PimpJuice.
  7. Definately dadaism. I love it!! I wonder if they can build me a Dali-esque surreal turntable. Perhaps something I can only hear in my dreams.
  8. I recommended DJ Icey for the mid-bass -- the 50hz region I think -- that the original poster was after. Aphex Twin must really dig the oldschool video games if he's redone the Mario theme as well -- I remember the PacMan remix from years ago and that was a lot of fun.
  9. Perusing the movie channels last night I finally found a movie that I have in my collection: Bubba Ho Tep. One of my all time favorites!! I didn't watch it last night (my eyes were about to slam shut) but I did find a repeat to record later on. I think this was off of Voom Monster. I can't wait to sit down and A/B the DVD vs. Satellite at some point this week.
  10. A used HK did the trick for me. I did the factory direct with warranty on ebay, or you could find something on audiogon. I have actually been perusing for the last few weeks for a buddy who is putting together a budget hometheater and your price range is about where he is at as well. Most everything in the last few years in this price range is going to have all of the bells and whistles one needs. I like the high current capabilities of HK for the dynamics of movies but that may not be a factor for you.
  11. From what I gather the HBO movie stuff is in 1080i, my TV has a native 1080i (as well as 480i and p), and the Dish942 box will display any format (not sure what the native is). I think I'll quit worrying and just enjoy the show. But then again, according to dragonfyr I need to ditch my TV so that will weigh heavy on my mind.[]
  12. All of the live stuff blows me a way. I have been cruising the Voom channels quite a bit -- hang gliding in yosemite, cruising the canals of venice, watchmaking in Switzerland, and football games on the other channels. I couldn't imagine a more realistic picture (at least until the next generation of equipment comes out). But the things that were shot on film and then upconverted I'm not seeing much improvement over my DVD player. Maybe my eyes aren't able to notice (or trained to notice) the differences. Sort of the reason I won't spend thousands of dollars on speaker wire or power cords: I just don't think my sensory perception will be able to tell a difference. One of the first movies we watched was Shark Tale on HBO-hd. While I was impressed, I remember the "wow" factor as not being any higher than, say, when I watched "The Incredibles" on my DVD player. Its all good though. []
  13. After lurking in forums for the last two years I should know this but I can't seem to put my finger on the answer. What would/should be the difference in picture quality when I am watching a movie on Shotime or HBO in high def (1080i for me) vs. the same movie through my DVD player (480p). I haven't been able to find a movie I own and A/B compare it up against what has been playing lately. [8-)]
  14. And I just remembered another artist I've been hearing on Sirius Satellite lately (on the breakbeats channel whichever one that is) : DJ Icey He has some whacky bass -- One song sticks out in my mind "This is how my drummer drums" but everything I have heard of his the bass is the foundation for the song. And its not rap.
  15. Oops. Sorry. Should have read the whole post first. Nix the rap. I'll see if I can dig out some CDs and get titles for you when I get home tonite.
  16. As opposed to test "songs" I use test "artists" and "genres" Some recommendations: Late 80s and early 90s Miami Bass -- DJ Magic Mike and MC A.D.E. come to mind, old 2Live Crew can be thrown in that mix as well, if you can tolerate them. Make sure your house has a solid foundation and take the pictures off the wall. There were a bunch of artists that used the Roland 808 keyboard to generate basslines for songs some have already been mentioned -- Kraftwerk. I have some CDs (were actually used in cars to show off 'bass') that are collections of songs/various artists of nasty low-end stuff. You may be able to find those kinds of discs at your local used music store in the dollar bin. These are some of the things that have gotten me in trouble with my neighbors (even before I got my sub). Hope this helps.

    Best Horn Player

Dang, I wanted to see some opinions on my instrument: the French Horn.
  18. With the inevitable chapter 11 of Delphi earlier this week, who thinks that will effect XM?
  19. Are all types of veneers still available or were some discontinued? I'm sure price (new) is commensurate with availability of wood, yes?
  20. Wow. Small world. I guess I'm just not up on the scene anymore. Mustaine double-chins. That doesn't sound as cool as double-bass.
  21. Instead of cake might I suggest: egg and spam; egg bacon and spam; egg bacon sausage and spam; spam bacon sausage and spam; spam egg spam spam bacon and spam; spam sausage spam spam bacon spam tomato and spam; ...spam spam spam egg and spam; spam spam spam spam spam spam baked beans spam spam spam... ...or Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and spam.
  22. Physically 33 Mentally 12 HAPPY BOITHDAY[]
  23. I just got the Dish942 a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had much time to sit in front of the TV lately so I've been recording quite a bit. I caught up on some of my TV watching last night with Dream Theater Live in Bodukan. (or something like that). I've never listened to 'em before, but recorded/watched them based on some comments made on this forum. Wow! Heavy stuff, I must say! ...quite a talented buch of dudes -- very proficient at their instruments. It reminds me of the VERY riff-oriented stuff a-la Dave Mustaine (back years ago and when he still did drugs) ...and riff-oriented is just the way I like it. Good stuff. Oh yeah, the 1080i looked killer and the 5.1 surround kicked butt too.
  24. Does anyone have a good guess as to the different types of wood used on Khorns over the years?
