  1. Wow. This thread took a turn. I also wanted to hear peoples opinions on other speakers in the price range. If only to justify how right I was in justifying my decision to by 7s. []
  2. I just demolished a delectable sextet of the RedHook IPA Fri nite. It made my tongue wiggle.
  3. So when can I come over and take the Pepsi challenge? Khorns&Tubes vs. RF7s&SS Awesomely beautiful setup!! Congrats!
  4. American Bourbon Its all good to me. From the cheapest Rebel Yell to the pricier Wild Turkey Rare Breed. Mmmmm. Bourbon is the only high proof stuff that doesn't punish me the next day. But I have to be careful, though, as I can start knocking it back like a cold beer on a hot day.
  5. When I was shopping for speakers early last year I narrowed it down to three: Paridigm (not sure which one), Def Tech (big floorstanders with the amplified bass), and the mighty RF7s. At the time I was looking to piece together hometheater (albeit slowly) but also have the ability to listen to music. The Paradigms were pretty good from what I remember for movies. The DefTech seemed awesome while I was watching movies. Then I listened to some music. And that was clincher; I popped in a song from Smashing Pumpkins -- "I Am One." For those who know it you know what I am talking about. For the rest of yous gus and gals -- it is a simple song with simple instrumentation -- kickdrum, snare, heavy bass guitar riff, and then a catchy guitar riff with a bit of distortion. The Paradigm, once again, was OK. The DeafTech sounded like it was sloshing out doo-doo. The 7s -- well, I turned it up, then I turned it up some more, and when everyone in the store was running for cover I turned it up again and said to myself "I Am One" (with these speakers!!!) Having listened to guitar for 33 of my 33 years (my Dad is a musician and I myself have attempted to play guitar for the last 20) I kind of feel as though I know what a guitar is supposed to sound like. Its all about "FIDELITY" for me when it comes to music -- and the 7s were the only thing that made the drums, bass, and guitar sound like... well... drums/bass/+guitar. Simple song, simple test, simple results. From there, I figured if the 7s can get this right I could dial them infor movies no problem. And I was right.
  6. I bought a refurb avr8000 from harmanaudio on ebay early last year. I used it for 2 channel for months. When I went to a 5 channel set-up I found out that the left rear channel was hosed. I sent it back (on their dime) and got a replacement within the week. Been rockin' ever since! My vote: "AYE"
  7. Keep coming with the feedback folks! Good stuff. I still haven't made up my mind.[8-)]
  8. "Oh, yes that is what I was thinking. I lived in Brussels for two years and loved Duvel. How about a little Kreik" The wife loves lambics (and I can appreciate them too) but I don't love the price. [] I can appreciate the Reinheitsgebot as much as the next guy, but I love the fact those crazy Belgians will put anything in thier beer. "25 replies and noboby else is ready for a Guinness?" I though I covered that on page 1 and the bottle w/Nitrogen Insert thingy.[]
  9. And the Belkin costs $750!? You can be sure it won't be that one! $750 retail ...I see many that are less than half that shipped to my door. I may just end up with the Belkin and add some battery backup later down the road. I've got some other ideas on how to spend my cabbage for now.
  10. I started homebrewing because of the lack of variety and ruined beer I always seemed to end up with. AL is one of the few states left with silly alcohol laws -- can't buy over 6% beer (it was 5% when I moved here) but ironically Bubba can go get 195proof PGA. Sheesh, good beer doesn't even start at 6%. If I buy at a store I usually get Bass or Guinness (black bottle). Newcastle is easy to drink and usually doesn't get tainted by our beloved Alcohol and Beverage Commission's storage conditions. I really like Kolsch-style and Belgian ales. I'd kill for a Duvel or a Chimay right about now.
  11. The max consumption rating for all of the equipment is around 2500w. The circuit is rated @ 15amps. The sub is on a different circuit fed through a Brickwall. I may add a battery to that as well. My thinking so far is: Brickwall>>UPS>>Belkin PF60.
  12. I want to blow my brains out. I know this subject has been beat into the ground, I am sick of it too. But after pooring over forums here and elsewhere, my eyes keep glazing over, spittle runs down my lip, and I can't seem to make any headway as to what direction to take. I ,like, know that, like, MOVs are, like, bad, and stuff. Huh huh. What I am interested in for my purposes: I would not like to have any current clamping or any ill-dynamic effects on my reciever and amp. I would like to protect my TV and DVD player (as well as xbox and dish reciever) from overvoltages as well as undervoltages (brown-out conditions). Coax protection (from the satellite/wall to the dish receiver) would seem wise, but I am guessing there is a different and cheap solution that would not necessarily have to be incorporated here. Battery backup, while not necessary, could be included. Is there a single solution or combination of units that can achieve what I am after? Help.[:'(]
  13. I have a 65" screen about 12ft from my "spot". Gaming and DVDs (480p) are awesome. I just got HighDef last night and my jaw is still on the floor (1080i). For these modes I don't even think twice as to how close I am sitting -- I could go closer with no problem. Standard Def can be pretty crummy at times, but I got over that a long time ago. I am in the camp of "bigger is better"
  14. 98 Dodge Ram PU about 800 miles a week. Yeah, my gas bill eats me up but I have a hard time gettting rid of a vehicle that is 1)paid for and 2)runs like a scalded dawg! Approaching 130k miles and it runs better than new. Money no object: The '06 BMW M3 with the V8 looks tasty. Anything GM modified by Lingenfelter (RIP) would be hot (say a '98 Impala SS!). SpaceshipOne would be a fun ride too.
  15. What does a pair of Ultra2s and an amp cost? Just wondering.
  16. Nuclear Medicine Technologist: Basically, I inject radioactive drugs into people and then take pictures of them. I still haven't given up my hopes to be a superhero, though.
  17. I spent many a hour/day/week/month pouring over specs from different companies. Granted, the RSW15 is a damn fine speaker, but for my purposes I ended up with the SVS and the reasons were many: I wanted a sub that would hit low (16hz) and loud (118+db) in my somewhat large room -- the frequency response is sick flat. I felt the price was right on too. Since your tastes are different (90% music) you may not have that "need" I do to get into the subsonics.
  18. Somewhere down the road I can see myself investing in some Khorns and some tubes, but not in my present situation (no room or money). For now I'll keep sinking $$ into music and DVDs.
  19. Almost! I am approaching the law of diminishing returns for investment. The short list of wants: -DeanG xover upgrades for the front three speakers (not sure why I am waiting) -some sort of power conditioner (more research) -TV calibration (going to happen in a few months anyways) -to fix my Pioneer DVD player to play high-res audio (time and effort) Down the road: Rotel RB-1090 and RMB-1095 (because nothing exeeds like excess). I am so happy I ended up with Klipsch and not some of the other brands I was looking at before I started this journey a couple of years ago. I wasn't sure just how much music I was going to listen to before I bought everything but as it turns out that is what I do most!! I know this is a two-channel forum (and please save the flaming for later) but I thouroughly enjoy Harman's Logic 7.1 for 2ch stuff. It just sounds great in my living room (not that 2ch sounds bad, in fact, just the opposite). Oh yeah, with the same speakers I also happen to have a top-notch home-theater(my opinion, of course)!! For the money I've sunk in this system, I doubt I could start over and approach what I have now. Not even close!! Would do it all over again? Absolutely, and in a nanosecond!!!
  20. Arrgh! The movie is awesome except for the fact that two chapters are completely hosed/unwatchable. I tried two different players with the same results. Guess I'll be taking it back at some point this weekend.[:@] Its been a long time since I've seen this movie -- I forgot how clever it was. And most definitely timeless.
  21. I've been pricing tires for the ol' Dodge Truck for the last week or so. Granted, all products that are petroleum based will be higher, but sheesh! This was originally my Dad's truck and he put on a set of BF Goodrich Commercial LT 245/75/R16 at Sams club for $445 about three years ago. 85,000 miles, no balancing, no alignments, no rotations and now the joker down the street wants $703. I don't think so. I'm going to go with my father in law at some point this week to Sam's (he's a member not me) and see if they are even close to $500. Endover: my buddy (he has a '02 WS6 Ramair) just turned me on to tirerack.com and has been buying from them for years. also discounttiresdirect.com has some competitive prices. I think one site wanted $355 + shipping ($100) and the other was about $450 shipping included.
  22. I picked it up last weekend on an impulse buy at Wallymart. Its one I've wanted for a while so it was easy justification. Haven't had time to watch it though. I will probably do so tomorrow as I have been banned from work with a fever of 102. The cough syrup should certainly make it interesting![6]
