  1. Last year I purchased a 2.1 to go with my avr8000 and power the 7.1 surround rears. After a little thinking, I decided to attatch the RF7 mains and RC7 to the 2.1... My reasoning was that the 2.1 was rated something like 150w through 6ohms whereas the avr8000 is rated at 8ohms. From what I read on these forums the RF7s become very power hungry when it comes to pushing the lower frequencies. I also have had personal experience with the reciever clipping while watching some very bass-intense DVDs such as in Matrix2 "the freeway scene" which seems to confirm the previous sentence. After switching the amplification to the 2.1, the clipping problems have disappeared. Since I do not have a subwoofer at this point I AM asking the speakers to do quite a bit of work, but they have done all that I have asked... and then some. As far as music goes, I never had problems with the avr8000 before, and after switching to the 2.1 I still don't. To me, they both sound great!
  2. So THAT's where the voices in my head are coming from.
  3. My plans are to be walking around in the pits in Commerce three weeks from today. A buddy of mine owns a chemical company, so I'll have a high$$respirator with which to get veeerrry close to the motors. I can't wait to see/hear/smell/feel the sensation of "setting the clutch" Oh yeah, baby!!
  4. Somewhere, there is a guy in a parking lot trying to sell these out of a van because, "like, dude, I ended up with an extra pair."
  5. Stop! Who approaches the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, 'ere the other side he see. OK... enough of that. 1)I found a used Harman Kardon Signature 2.1 Amplifier for $250. I have not been able to find much in the way of information on the internet -- was this a good price? 2)My HK reciever AVR8000 is rated for 110wpc@8ohms, 75amps. The amplifier is rated 100wpc@8ohms, 150wpc@4ohms, 100amps. I have hooked up 2 rear surround speakers (for 7.1 since the reciever is not capable) but would it be worth my while to hook up my main RF7s and center channel to the amp so that the reciever is doing less 'amplification' duty? 3)Where can I find a remote-on trigger to connect between my reciever and the amplifier. The manual is quite vague and I have not been able to find anything for sale anywhere. Happy New Year to all.
  6. I am assuming that because this $4k system doesn't support DD or Prologic, one would have to use their proprietary "Videostage 5" when not using DTS. This sort of makes sense, though: If 99% of all movies are DD, and all movies using DD sound are going to sound like crap using a Blose system, they are probably using their circuitry to try and make things sound better. School of Rock

All of the songs used in this movie were in my CD collection and in heavy rotation when I was growing up (especially the 'homework' assignments). Jack Black has made some horrible movies but he was brilliant in this. I highly recomment Jack Black's "Tenacious D" for those who have never seen it -- words can't describe...
  8. A Clockwork Orange -- Old electronica The Lost Highway -- Many good artists on this one Reservoir Dogs -- Oh yeah! But really just about any movie made by Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch, or Quentin Tarantino.

    Vinyl Lovers

Also posted in 2channel -------------- I had mentioned in a previous post (months ago) http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=48110&sessionID={36AD599F-FE29-4835-8D62-51D43EBBCAB3} that I would eventually get around to cataloging my record collection and . As chance would have it, I was perusing my files on my computer and found a file labelled "records." It would appear as though I have already done the task which I had set out to do. Anyhoo... I would like to get rid of my record collection to those souls who still listen to and appreciate vinyl. I've gone all digital and have no use for analogue anymore. I cannot guarantee the condition of the records or if indeedee I have the exact record in my collection (the list appears to be several years old, but mostly accurate from what I can tell)... For those interested in the 'list' please PM me. I would like to do business locally in the Birmingham area first and foremost as records are heavy -- etc... I would also be willing to donate to someone locally with a vinyl rig so that I could get exclusive listening rights!! And always... I do accept donations or trades to the nuclearay subwoofer foundation.

    war songs

Quite an interesting thread. But I am certain my song suggestions are going to fall on deaf ears (no pun intended -- esp. after you see my suggestions) Easy pickin's for songs referring to war for the metal genre: Slayer -- Angel of Death Chemical Warfare War Ensemble War Zone Mandatory Suicide Ghosts of War Metallica -- Disposable Heroes One Megadeth -- Killing is my business... and business is good! Holy wars... Punishment Due Rust in Peace... Polaris Can't say that any of these songs are pro/anti war... Just about WAR!!! Enough for now.
  12. I did hear some major differences in my RF7s when I listened to the same music in the store (their reciever) vs. when I got them home (my reciever). I was worried about the lack of bass as compared to some of the other products in the store. That concern disappeared when I got them home and turned them up. I had the demo models in my house for a few weeks before my new speakers finally showed up. At the same time I also had to swap out a reciever. For the first receiver and set of demo speakers my normal listening level was around -15db. For the second reciever and my new speakers the listening level went up to about -10db. At first I attributed this change to only the reciever, but as time went on that level has dropped to anywhere between -15 to -20db which makes me believe that the speakers have 'broken in.' Much of the same music and movies were used in both cases negating the differences between recording levels of different material. I have absolutely nothing to prove that either the receiver or the speakers has changed over time. I just know what levels I like to hear things -- and the numbers have changed over time which sort of replicates what hwatkins has said. A few weeks ago a buddy of mine came in to town (the same one who turned me on to Klipsh 15 years ago when we were young lads) and after about 14 hours of drinking homebrew my judgement took a nosedive -- I decided to see how loud my stereo would go. I popped in an oldschool Miami bass drum (in the style of what kids make their cars go 'boom' with) and kept turning the knob until... My room is about 4000 cubic feet and the Ratshack meter was reading peaks of 120db at 15' from the speakers. It took my neighbor about 10 minutes before he rang my doorbell. If there was a break-in period I'm sure I've passed it. And I don't question wether or not these speakers can reproduce bass (in a given frequency range, of course) anymore. So to those people worried about speaker break-in... just do it.
  13. Sounds nice... But the knobs sure are ugly.
  14. My local Wallyworld is selling a "42 Plasma for about $2300. I think the brand name is "ILO." And because I live in the country my local Wallyworld also has some of the most interesting fish in the gene pool. Very fun to go people watching!
  15. Damonrpayne -- The department I work in (Nuclear Medicine) is next door to where your Dad works (MRI). From my limited understanding of electronics and how they apply to the NM equiment I use, the UPS is more for a power back up and less for a line conditioner. I would expect the MRI would be just the opposite (more weight on the line conditioning)given the RF signals generated and received. I used to work with a cyclotron and at one point there was consideration of trying to purchase a UPS for it given the crappy/unstable powergrid the city had. The pricetag approached six figures due to the insane amount of power draw so it was not cost effective. As UPSs apply to hometheater is the purpose here to maintain power long enough to shut everthing down (safe mode) or more along the lines of conditioning the power (Brickwall, MosterPower) ?! What was the question?

    Fifth Element

Milla Jovovich played the goddess "Leeloo" mmmmm...
  17. So far so good on my 563A. I don't have the mega video display to watch movies on so I cannot compare how it looks to anything else. I'm sure if one were doing A/B comparisons between this model and one costing $1000 -- some slight differences could be heard somewhere. But for $130 and the fact that I get to listen to DVDa and SACD it is worth every penny and then some. At the time I could not justify spending a ton more money for something that may sound 'slightly' better when interpreting 1's and 0's.
  18. I feel your pain. For years and years I was unable to afford the sound system I wanted. This year I finally got the hookup on the Reference 7 system (5.0 no sub yet ). I rearranged the entire living room to fit everything in and now my viewing distance has gone from 10 to 18 feet. Then my Proscan TV died and now I am on a backup ~30" junker. The phat TV will come in due time. But for now the sound is great! If I can figure out a way to hook up my old tower speakers I will have 7.1 -- but for now that is more mental power than I am willing to put forth.
  19. I am unable to wall mount my RS7s as well. For a while they were sitting on top of some old tower speakers that I had doing surround duty. I looked for quite a while for some decent stands but I was either disappointed by the look or the price. I cannot justify spending $250 for some poorly constructed veneered MDF. I did, however, justify spending $30 at the big Wal- for some tall and narrow CD storage towers. A very ugly, cheap answer, which now serves a dual purpose! At one point I considered some very nice looking wine racks -- in which I could put my homebrew, but the price was out of sight. Skonopa -- what an elegant solution. The next time I head to my parents house I will get my dad (a cabinetmaker by trade) to construct something similar. NICE!

    Fifth Element

This was one of the first DVDs I ever bought. Nothing but brain candy from start to finish. Great look with a killer sound. ETC, ETC. So the consensus here is that the Superbit version is worth shelling out more money?! I guess I'll get a second job for all of these crazy movies I want to buy.

    Late fees

I can't remember the last time I rented a movie. It's been probably three+ years. With the price of DVDs as low as they are it makes no sense to rent if you think you will ever watch the movie more than once. Besides, the big chain rental places never have the any of the older movies I want to watch anyways. And don't even get me started on the value of going to a movie theater !
  22. The director's cut was excruciatingly long and I don't think it added too much more too the plot, unlike say... Apocalypse Now: Redux. Still, one of the best war movies ever made. The Superbit DTS version is on my top 10 list of things to buy in the near future.
  23. Jay481985 What a fantastic link. I can't wait to forward it to some friends who made the (expensive) mistake of going the Blose HT route.
  24. I tend to think of myself as an inquisitive person. I know this can be annoying at times, as evidenced by a response my former coworker gave me one day. He had been in my line of work 25 years longer than I, and so I regarded his opinion/answers greatly. I asked him,"How does blahblahblah work?(I don't remember the exact question)" To which he replied, "F.M.!" What is "F.M.?" I asked back... "F*cking Magic, Boy!" And then I became enlightened. Bose holds all of the great secrets and spells to the wizardry and sourcery that is sound. Quit asking.
  25. They pulled the Roland 808 back out of the closet. I haven't heard beats like that since Licenced... As much as I have enjoyed the Bboys over the years (as much as anyone!) I can't take the political commentary on the new album. They should stick to the Brass Monkey and White Castle references.
