  1. i wanted the Jubilees to be able to drown out, my wife screaming at me...
  2. Welcome and heed jjptkd's sage advice! He's one of us who has bad effects.... lol.
  3. I got your back bro..... now you know who to reach out to for spousal advice when you bring your first pair of Jubilee's home.... Full disclosure: Said spousal advice might be to seek a competent divorce attorney.....
  4. I concur. It looks to me like you hired an interior decorator....and they got the furnishings, rug, speakers all to compliment each other. (now we find out he spent 30 years as an interior decorator)
  5. My wife had T-mobile..... dead as a doornail out here. Then again, to be fair, most everything is pathetically poor here. you might think living in "Knoxville" would mean it's on the map for service....except, I don't live in Knoxville. I'm 30/40 miles away from Knoxville and as you get farther away from town, the adjacent towns get smaller with less and less options. Which is why I was THRILLED when I saw the equipment to put fiber in out here so it was a "Lucy pull the football away from Charlie" moment when they turned up the hill into the development, ignoring the rest of the road. At that time, there were TWO houses in the development, there are three here (they now have three) and there's another house between there & here. I'll probably have to adhere & develop my game plan of just driving to some work locations and literally, mooching off their service. They have the space and empty offices, I have the need..... they seem to really like the idea of having me on location so it appears to be a win/win, until.....I get to that pesky 7:00 A.M. meeting, now my options narrow down to only one location I can think of (highway dept).
  6. Early room shot, you can see some of the orange outlets
  7. They are actually out in the room where I put a (hot line plus switched line) ABOVE the K402, with the logic of if I ever put a tube amp for the 402, I'd need power (and my old MC-30's had a short cord so I wanted power nearby) I then have another pair of (hot and switched lines) of orange outlets above the bass bin on the Jubilee's. So each front speaker location has an upper set of power and a lower set of power. THOSE are, much to the horror of my wife, the orange ones. I told her very specifically "plug NOTHING into an orange outlet, it is for stereo stuff only" (because I have all these split among four 20 amp circuits and all switched outlets are controlled at the wall......I don't want her frustrated because the cleaner doesn't work when all she had to do was flip a stupid switch!)
  8. Never heard of the WISP thing but I get the logic. Ditch the cable between and send it wireless (between their location and ours) Interesting..... I'll have to dig into this a bit and see if I can figure that out. I'm guessing line of site is a requisite.... if so, then a lane of trees would need to be mowed down.
  9. Our neighbor moved out of their 12K sq/ft house and built a smaller one across the street. She kept three lots for it so they'd have some space. EACH of these lots has a fiber drop for it so she has two drops on her property that she'll never use. Her property butts up to the back side of the farm and this is where the wonderment of digging a trench and laying some fiber from her remote box over to us (she's open to the idea in fact, she's the one telling me the best path for it!) I don't know if she knows all their details (I certainly know nothing about fiber speeds) I think she was saying she gets around 1,000 GB upload/download speeds. I just told her I didn't want to hear about it as I dramatically stuck my fingers in my ear and went "NA NA NA NA NA NAAAAAAAAAAAAA" My work provided hot spot is supposed to be 2-3 mb's upload/download. I get .11 So having fiber or ANYTHING would vastly ease my issues working from home. Consequently, I am now in my second week of specifically NOT working from home. I go to a lot of locations to help them and have asked (and they've agreed) to see if I could come THERE on my 'work from home' days.....to essentially mooch on their internet. What's in it for them? They have their retirement advisor on hand all day so I might be able to see someone in the meantime, they might squeeze some questions in.... I don't know. What I HAVE found interesting (flattering a bit if I may use that word) is virtually all that I have asked, which is only four so far, have immediately said yes, they'd love to have me on premise like that. So now I need to figure out how to deal with going to these locations when I have my 7:00 A.M. meetings. Are these locations open? Can I get in? One of them, the Operations Center for the adjacent county, told me they'll give me an ID card and enter me into their database so I can move freely about. It just blows my my mind that some of these locations essentially give me free reign of the place.
  10. I'll have to ask. As of now, I'm under the impression that ATT came in and installed it (as part of us paying a small fee on our bills for remote location service). Not 100% on this as they DID pay all construction costs to have the roads built/paved to the States specifications. (that's another long story) The quick story on the road....they installed all roads, "gave them" to the State (county I think) and they had a gate installed. Were told they could NOT have a gate on a public road so somehow or another, the ownership of the roads were transferred back to them and now, on two cul-de-sacs, there are gates. The county takes no responsiblity in maintaining the roads. So they certainly have funds to install this but I think I'd known if they fronted the costs. In fact, was visiting with her just yesterday and part of her comment was "one day all this equipment showed up" (to install the fiber) and she had no idea her lobbying (nagging) had become successful. So I'm inclined to think ATT did it on their dime. Frankly, I would think if SHE paid for it, she could widen the circle of installation at HER whim.
  11. What I did on mine.... Under the stairs, was a water heater. I moved it to inside the garage, next to HVAC system (air handlier) Closet now empty, put a shelf in. I put sheetrock BELOW the shelf to floor so it's only a 1/2 closet. Around the corner, is one of the openings that my LaScala slides through so it actually sits UNDER the rack. Wired things. When it came to the rear wall, THIS is where I went nuts with a plethora of outlets, XLR connectors, RCA connectors, CAT-5 connectors, HDMI.... Now, on the OTHER side of this wall (so now I'm under the stairs looking at the back side of the wires) instead of putting sheetrock up, I put a 3/4" panel of plywood. If I need to access the wires inside the wall from the rear, I simply take plywood down (held on by 4-6 screws, I don't recall) But, this plywood is now a perfect home to mount my DTV splitter, Wireless transmitter and tie down the extra wires I have to it so they are all looking nice. If I didn't know that I'd done this myself, I would never have believed myself. No pictures of the other side of wall with the plywood.
  12. Yeah, sometimes I wonder if having such a realistic sounding system might ultimately cause us heart attacks...
  13. I've told this before... side story, I live out in the boonies, last house on dead end road and I'm in the woods. NOBODY has any reason to be here unless they are expected, lost or......up to no good. House was dark, it was dark outside. I had a Thelonius Monk CD in once (forget which one, which track) Had it at a pleasant volume when suddenly, I heard some faint voices outside. I had seen no lights coming up driveway so the only conclusion was that someone(s) were sneaking around outdoors in the dark. This could be bad. Well..advantage is skewed to me since I'm in the house, in the dark (I usually walk around in the dark) so I know where all the floor obstructions are. I quietly work my way over to the door. My heart is pumping....I'm realizing this could be a fight or flight situation and I have nowhere to fly to..... so get prepared. BUT they may not know that I'm at home so element of surprise might be on my side. (side comment, wife wasn't home either so I was alone) Got to door, hand on light switch so that outside lights would temporarily blind them.... yank door open, turn lights on, jump out to immediatly confront the intruders and all I heard were crickets and an occasional frog. WTH??? Long story short, the voices were recorded faintly on the CD. Must have been someone in the room/across the room talking quietly to each other. I had never heard that before and now my heart was racing ready to bang some heads in or perhaps have mine banged in. Nothing but crickets. I slithered back inside, turned lights out and continued to enjoy the music while my heart slowed down.
  14. Not really but I know more of the story. 1. Dead end road, I'm the LAST house about 3/4 mile down 2. 15 years ago) someone came in and built a 12K sq/ft house "midway" down the road BUT also put roads in the 40 acres they owned to sell lots. Consequently, we now have a "Development" out here although it was their single house for 13 years. 3. The wife (his) called ATT about fiber, nagged at them....they finally said they'd bring it "to their development". She (said) she asked about everyone else and was told "nope, it will come to you since you are a new development and we can bury the cable to the respective lots" 4. This was done....and everything I've tried to do has only given me a chorus of crickets in response. 5. 1 1/2, 2 years ago, a new house was built. This new house was built between the beginning of the road and the development. So the new house literally, has fiber optic right in front of her door. 6. She's been asking them about it and she's been told NO, she can't have it. Evidently she went so far as to call the FCC to complain. ATT came back and put (don't know what it's called) but a small 'connection box' in her front yard BUT STILL REFUSES to connect her. So I don't know what corn cob ATT has inserted into themselves but they are displaying the logic of how can we NOT service customers and NOT create more customers for ourselves. Call me perplexed at their attitude.
  15. I've got my stuff in a closet (which is next to garage). It has louvered doors on the front so SOME air can get in there.... I've thought about how to get heat out but, it doesn't seem to be a major issue as I usually have doors open when in use. None the less, my idea is/was (I've not done it yet....and may not do it) anyway, my idea is to put some ducting from ceiling of closet into garage and let it empty into garage. On the garage side of the duct, put an in-line fan to pull air out of closet, into garage. Tie the fan to one of the switches I use to turn power on so the fan is on if stereo is on. Don't know if I'll ever do it, heat buildup doesn't seem to be an issue yet. Also, I have two of my amps out in the room, sitting on the back side of the Undergrounders, behind the K402 so that takes care of itself.
  16. I certainly liked how the Khorns sounded.... The Khorns were sold to buy the Jubilee's. I do not miss the Khorns at all (zero, nada) The Jubilee's are that much better in my opinion.

    Computer guys....

The mouse I had with old pc, doesn't work well with this one. It found it and downloaded the drivers for it and keyboard but it still doesn't always work (lag) My other mouse, for my work PC, has a "1,2,3" button and if I have it on 1, my work pc (mouse) works, if I have it on 3 then it works fine on this new one. So I'm still figuring out what to do there (I have others that are corded, I might plug one of them in)

    Computer guys....

I think he said he installed a (legal) copy of Win 10. I don't know if pro or not (or if they're all the same and that's just a name)

    Computer guys....

I have no idea....that's above my pay grade. I would think that the mother board (serial number?) might conflict with the info on the HD but I have no clue.

    Computer guys....

Well, it's nice being able to log in and use a keyboard to pester everyone instead of having to use my phone. I see people using their thumbs to type with on their phones. My thumbs don't even know where the keys are. My fingers do, but my thumbs are pretty dumb. I am SLOW going when I'm typing on my phone (using index finger instead of thumbs) but I'm ok on a keyboard (probably not there now, but highest was 83 words/minute). So it's nice having all this working.

    Computer guys....

Eight processors.... lol. I can type fast however..... (I get they're for a purpose.... I'm just poking fun that an old 286 would suffice my typing needs... I recall being told by a friend that for my needs (25 years ago) there would be ZERO need for me to even consider getting a 386..... and now look at us.

    Computer guys....

Interesting comments lol. My uses are reading the internet, like here.... playing some cards (Euchre for those who care) a spreadsheet/letter from time to time, reading news.... Pretty low demand. No gaming, no videos, no streaming (my internet is WAY too slow for all that.....price I pay for living remote AND I'm not going to pay extra for my satellite dish since I have low interest in those anyway) Didn't think about going to the Dell site! He said that he wiped it clean, reformatted it (1-TB drive) but he didn't say he updated anything beyond that. Looking at the drive, there is nothing on it other than what appears to be base operations material. I pulled the HD out of old PC and plugged it into my Thermaltake HD reader and am moving various things over. (that sure comes in handy from time to time!)
  24. My PC died a couple days ago. I've been using my phone for whatever internet lookup I need/want to do. I'm realizing I need to buy another. The one that died, I bought used. My needs are low so I'm not going to pay several hundred or several thousands for the newest/bestest. Poking around on craigslist, I found a Dell T5400 with monitor, keyboard, mouse (though I told him to keep the keyboard & mouse) He carried on how this is an industrial tank, yada yada yada.... most of which went over my head. When he opened the case though, I have to admit, seeing the cooling 'thing' above the processor (MUCH larger than any I've ever seen, looks like it might have some copper tubes which suggests it might have some liquid cooling) Anyway, long story short, I was heading into town, saw this....so reached out to him and decided on the spot to get it. $90 I figured I'd probably not be able to replace too many parts in my now dead pc for that much so what the heck. Again, not knowing much about this T5400.... is it really the 'industrial tank' he said it was? It doesn't really matter what the answer is, I'm now using it. It seems to fit well as a replacement. I DID need a pigtail to take my DVI for monitor into its other type of video plug but the pigtail was all I needed. I also now have a nice foot rest as it's laying on its side under desk.
