  1. The invite will still be open. Heading to Hilton Head next week but you said later in month so that ought not be problem.
  2. You should take me up on my offer... might be all we can do to keep you from buying a pair! [6]
  3. They won't let you down, as long as you stay within their range. I LOVED them, just detested that I was "stuck" with only 4 watts of their sweetness. 4 wpc just don't cut my mustard when I want to step on the throttle.
  4. No you won't, not if you listen like I believe you listen.
  5. Didn't help mine but then, I don't have quite the eye candy as you do.
  6. It just dawned on me that if I bought a subwoofer, I'd have my very own 3.2.1 HT system!! 3 LaScalas across the front 2 Jubilees doing rear as well as 2-ch duty (oh well []) 1 subwoofer Now I can talk to those folks with bose units and join their ranks sharing the love of our 3.2.1 systems.
  7. Joe, I don't know any/all the technical differences. I DID own a pair of Wright 2A3 amps as well as a pair of Transcendent SE-OTL amps (I bridged them at 4 wpc). These were on my Khorns. They BOTH sounded fantastic "within their operating range" (meaning I love more volume than they put out so I was always a bit frustrated with their limited power) Within their power range though, they did sound fantastic. I ended up thinking I liked the OTL amps a bit more so I tried to do as close an a/b test with the wife to ask her which sound SHE preferred. Whether or not I did the test 'accuratly' doesn't matter to me a whole lot (I was happy with either answer) but she happened to also pick the sound that was consistent with the OTL sound. They did NOT have the punch in the chest that I so love (neither one). They simply sounded sooooooo fantastically real and "there". A bit moreso in my opinion for the OTL amps. We all know how plug ugly the Jubilee's are. My wife and her sisters feel the Khorns are ALSO plug ugly. Her sister was over and we're at dinner table and she simply stopped eating and said 'omg, that really DOES sound fantastic'. An unsolicited comment like that coming from someone who had such a predisposition to begrudge my Khorns really meant a lot to me. I sold the Wright amps and kept the OTL's. Later on, it kept gnawing at me that they only had 4 watts per monoblock so I finally sold them too (when I got the McIntosh MC-30's and MC-2102). Today, now that I've got the Jubilees and can biamp, I miss the OTL amps. It's quite possible that they'd have enough power for me for 85% of my listening (if used only on the top horn). I've got a solid state doing woofer duty. I've been debating on repurchasing not only the SE-OTL amps, but also their bigger brother which isn't single ended, but I understand is the nearest to them in sound and has 16 wpc. If I get both setups (2 monoblock SE-otls and 1 stereo 16 watter), I'll try the little amps and see if they can keep me happy. If not, I'll sell them again and put in their big brother. If it too fails, then I'll just keep the MC-2102 and forget about it. If the SE-OTL amps had the power of the 2102 as well as "their sound" then the 2102 would be gone in a heartbeat (even as much as I LOVE its looks) If it helps to know... there HAVE been times that the meters on my 2102 have danced on the 100 wpc mark (yes it was rather loud [:|]) I'm not sure any of the smaller amps would end up making me happy, but that's just me & my quirks.
  8. Dean, When you're done with Parrot, I'd like you to justify why you put pepper on your food, drive a white car and have your bathroom painted an off white color. I refuse to accept that you simply choose to, that's not good enough for me. [:|]
  9. I thought yours were being outsourced to China, to be made with less expensive materials... like the chrome plated plastic you see nowdays? (Sorry Roy, but someone had to tell him)
  10. My understanding was in the beginning (Forum update?) his internet access, something like Web TV?, had issues and didn't allow him to visit the forum. I recall he might have had some health issues also as I was in process of talking to him about buying a McIntosh amp from him right before he blinked out for several weeks/months (?). The amp idea sort of withered away and he was back sproadically, then the forum did an update as I recall and he was then totally blocked from access. Probably a bit faulty memory, but that's what I recall.
  11. Just wanted to try out the new forum. I DO have an announcement though... I won't be online most of the morning today as I have a silly NASD "CE" (continuing education) exam to take. It is not a pass/fail kind of thing... I simply have to go through the process. you might think that since there is NO "fail" that you'd make it fast by just clicking answer "A" on the questions and blast through, right? Wrong... the system DISALLOWS you to click & move on. Each time you do that, it will turn to a new page and ask you some stupid question like "you are going to fast, you need to read the material" If you then click "yes" on that page, it will then turn to yet another page and say something like "we want to be sure you understand each subject here, do you want to review such & such...?" by this time, you are POUNDING the keyboard, trying to get to move to the next question. Bottom line, it's a 3 hour exam and as I recall from the last time I did this (3 years ago), the SOONEST you can POSSIBLY leave is after 2 1/2 hours. It simply prevents you from going any faster, even if you KNOW all the answers. It's a fun thing to do. So with that, I bid you adieu. [au].......................
  12. You sourpuss. My guess is Travis hit it... the salesman said what ever he could, to make you feel comfortable. I'd bet a dime that it was his error (innocent or not). Hang in there, the wait is the hardest part, just ask Dean!! If by chance, the production date HAS been moved back, then keep it mind, it's certainly possible that (since they ARE essentially hand made) maybe someone fell ill, quit...or something else unforseen. Crap DOES happen in life. I highly applaude you for buying NEW!!! [<)]
  13. Too late for me to help you. I gutted mine out just a couple months ago. To make matters worse, I still had the wire laying around until a couple weeks ago when I stumbled upon it again and wondered why I still had it. It's gone now.
  14. Dean, you're gonna love them when ya get them. If I'm wrong, I'll buy you lunch. I looked for the box for my DX-38 and it was right where I thought it was so if that ever becomes an issue, I'm covered on that base.
  15. I can't agree with the never buy load funds, but then again, I've got a predisposition there. I will make the comment that, if you are buying "no load" funds, do you think you are not being charged ANYTHING? If you don't feel you are being charged anything, how would you suppose they are paying their for salaries, benefits, electric bills, trading costs and coffee cups? With that disclaimer out of the way, the comment about the Index funds... We've got several funds we've picked (out of the American Funds) and not only have most of them beat the index returns (using 1,3,5 year averages), they SOUNDLY beat the index. This isn't to say that they'll do it again or that they're the right fund for anyone and this isn't a solicitation to buy nor sell (and all those disclaimers) I just like to see some of the numbers on the table so that anyone reading them can make a fair comparison. Regarding load funds, I'd make the suggestion to never buy "B" shares. I've always thought that it made more sense paying the load up front, get it out of the way and if ever you sell then "what you see is what you get". If you invest in "B" shares, yes, they DO convert to "A" shares after a number of years but if you read the prospectus, you will notice that their expenses are higher and that comes out of the investors pocket. Oh... and "B" shares usually have a higher "12-B1" expense. Anyone care to guess what a 12B-1 expense is and what is done with it? (aside from Roger & Speakerdoc, or anyone else exposed to the industry) You do make a good point IMHO, that if you have enough assets, then specific stocks can make sense too. Your other comments are excellent.
  16. Wow Roc, I must really commend your "stick to your guns", however you COULD get these and be (sonically) done, all the while of looking further for the proper finish? When you find the proper finish, resell these? Heck... don't listen to me, I've got 2 birch LaScalas, 1 black LaScala and two black plug uglies. At least my EV's are walnut...
  17. Dean, I for one am going to be keenly interested to hear some (any) of your comments after you've had these for a while. Shawn had it with the constant coverage thing (although maybe by shadowing the wall, he means for you to slink around there like Kato of the Green Hornet?) I was going to make a comment that I sit below my direct line of fire and it is NOT an issue, but then, I don't sit as low as I understand you to say you do. Perhaps getting off the floor will help? [] I've got other thoughts/comments I'm keeping to myself and am wondering if you will stumble onto them when I read your reports.
  18. Probably didn't help anyone believe you when they saw you being handcuffed by security... []
  19. It's possible that the 2nd horn from the bottom has this box. It looks a bit more square than I remembered but then, I only glanced at it while in Hope. I happened to simply notice it as I was walking by and gave it no more thought than that.
  20. I do not think we saw a (front) covered version while in Hope. What I think we saw, and perhaps, you saw discussed... was the 'case' (for lack of better word) that the 402 slides into. Sort of the cabinet for it. Even at that, I think we saw the case EMPTY. As I recall, it had similar dimensions of the 402, but went back in sort of a triangle sort of way, rather than a square box. I just looked on the website at their commercial offerings and didn't see anything that seemed to illustrate the box holding the 402. I'll just have to hope that my description helped. (and that my memory was accurate)
  21. What I find so interesting (and somewhat troll'ish) is Parrot's continued vituperating of the speaker. Parrot doesn't like them? Fine by me. Parrot thinks they're plug ugly, sound crappy, gaudy, oversized, heavy, unfinished, (insert any other comments.......)? Fine by me. To continue the mantra though, diminishes the sensibilities of your comments as it really starts to sound like trolling and we all know that the Parrot would never try to get people all excited, would you?? []<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I wonder if Parrot ever thought hed be called a vituperator? []
  22. You seem 100% hung up on asthetics. I'm not saying thats bad, but maybe YOUR hangup on asthetics is a bit more anal than others? Pics I saw of your home show it to be beautiful, so your hangup has its benefits [Y] You seem so resolute that PWK would not let any speaker be made that was not "perfect for a living room". What about the designer series? Weren't those unfinished? how do you explain that those were plug ugly? Sure, it was up to the customer to do something with them but doesn't it fall back to your comment that as they were CURRENTLY BUILT, they were plug ugly, unfinsished and totally unworthy of being shown in a home? Surely PWK would never consider that acceptable for a home Khorn? So, in light of the designer series, maybe PWK did NOT have the asthetics hangup you seem to have? Maybe (and I don't profess to know his thoughts like you do, because I never met the man) he thought he was putting out the best SOUNDING speaker at the time, regardless of looks, and the customer could finish it as they pleased. If that is a reasonable statement, then how is the Jubilee with the 402 on top, any different? Here you have their best SOUNDING offering, with an option to get a smaller horn. The customer can finish it as they please. I personally think the fact that they made the plug ugly decorator series (I think that's what they called them?) totally blows any of your above comments down. It shows that they have historically built & delivered plug ugly speakers to WILLING buyers and it was up to those buyers to deal with the asthetics. Some did and some did not. []
  23. Since we're talking about the Eagles, I've got a question. I saw them live back in (probably) 1978 or so? They were at Riverfront stadium as I recall..outdoors in the heat of summer. One thing that really irked me about that show was they never played "Take it to the limit". Later I heard they couldn't play that song because someone had left the band (I've no idea who). Sooooooooo, if the linup was back together for the HFO tour...why didn't they play that song on the show? Was there yet another band member that left and it was "his" song and he's not part of this group? Confused minds want to know! [8-)]
  24. I'm planning on coming down to see Roger Waters if events allow. I MIGHT be "in Georgia" next weekend. ("in Georgia" defined as Savannah) We're heading over to HH to see my dad for a couple days. We drive out I-40 to I-26 instead of going down 75 and over. Talked to Chris Robinson earlier today and if time/wife allows, we're going to try to visit with him and maybe hear his system & his Danley. Turns out his business is probably 1 mile from my dad's house. You're speakers might not be photogenic (yet) but that's part of the process.....show them now, while they're 'fugly' and then later on, you can show them after you've made them pretty. I for one am intrigued on what you're going to do on top and how you're going to build it. I'm then VERY curious as to if/how you finish off the face of the bass bin. Although I'm not planning on doing anything now, I am trying to get ideas on how to finish mine off later on. I'm not very artistically creative so I need those here that are, make their pretty and then I'll have something to go by. Heck...I still can't even make up my mind if I want side grills or not. Part of me says they'll give it a more tailored look, another part says it's cool having them open...back/forth, back/forth... Then of course, we have the issue of covering the K402 or not... part of me says same as above with tailored look, another part LOVES the intimidation of it...so I remain torn.
