  1. Well, thanks for everyones thoughts. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Ben, I dont have the MC-30s (nor the MC-2102) in my possession yet. Ill be looking forward to their arrival. Ive been a bit reluctant to make the admission I did because it simply doesnt fit everything Ive read, other than what Charles has made prior comment to. Hes been very consistent in his views. So I can be sure its said, the dbx amp DOES sound excellent. My only real gripe with it is the background noise it has. I lived with an old Yamaha receiver for decades and its hiss. Now that I know I dont have to settle for that, I dont care WHAT the amp is, if it hisses, Im looking elsewhere. My current plan is to replace the dbx with the MC-2102 thats on the way (man, I love the looks of that thing). The Transcendent SE-OTLs will have their counterpart in the MC-30s. My guess is, Ill be selling the dbx amp but might just keep the OTLs in addition to the MC-30s (wife allowing of course). Those OTLs, as well as sounding very good, LOOK cool as beans when the lights are out. Im wondering if my listening position & room reality might be affecting the sound. (although that doesnt make sense because different sound is STILL different sound) Hopefully my other two amps will arrive by Christmas. []
  2. Sometimes I wonder if I'm qualifed to opine on anything [] Reason? Steup: I've got a pair of Transcendent SE-OTL's, bridged to something like 4 watts each. I also have a dbx BX3 4 way amp, bridgable to something like 300 or 400 per channel or 125 watts into 4 channels (approx). Oh, and it's solid state of course as well as being like 15 years old. According to my readings and understanding, we have totally different amps? Well, when I adjust the inputs on the dbx down to where they have as close of output as I can equal with the OTL's (I have a Niles A/B switch)... they SOUND THE SAME!!!!!! I can not tell them apart or find any detail that I can use to differentiate them. Now in defense of my deafness (?), I'm saying the above without sitting in the sweet spot, without the room really being setup for the above and for all I know, perhaps using wrong music. Point being though, if it weren't for the higher noise floor of the dbx amp, (when it's throttles are cranked up), I'd have zero reason to sell it. What keeps me confused though is everything I've read suggests that when operating in the realm of the OTL's sweet output range, the big bad ss amp should sound a bit different? I'm simply hoping that it is in fact, just a supurlative sounding amp (which it does seem to be) and I'm not as deaf as it might otherwise suggest. If my above hope is indeed wrong, it would go a long way to explain why the wife is always badgering me to do something she's had to tell me to do a million times... []
  3. Dare I ask why you say that fellow neighbor? (from Hamilton & folks from Piqua/Findlay)
  4. *My 18" x 36" listening area ( 8" ceiling)* with a 18x36x8 inch listening area, I can hardly wait to hear what Fini might come up with. [] [] [:$] Ok, so I'm having fun with ya. []
  5. Looking for someone who has heard them both. Preferably on a side by side basis and your thoughts. For sake of being clear, I'm curious who has heard the OTL's in bridged mode, verses the MC-30's on Khorns. Any takers?
  6. **I'm in the west end of Richmond wondering what "dealer's website" this guy spoke of? Far as I know, we only have one (who is very good) but I have only seen 'Referance' series in their shop last time I dropped by.** I did a dealer search here. The Audio Exchange is who I spoke of. If you go to their website, they do not list anywhere (that I could find when I looked) that they are a Heritage dealer. They only show what I belive to be reference. If they DO show Heritage on their website, I simply missed it (and I did look) Eddie happens to use Audio Exchange, so he was surprised when they were the dealer for the mythical speaker of which I spoke of. Since he's an avid music lover, avid McIntosh lover, he was intrigued on some of the things I said about Khorns & Heritage in general. He was surprised his dealer never let on about them. He's going back to inquire further with them. He's got an intrigue now, to hear a Klipschorn and if he likes what he hears, he might replace his B&W's out with them. Since the dealer evidently doesn't have any Khorns on hand to audition, I am trying to find someone around him that would be willing to share the experience with him. Again, if anyone here is willing to share, I can put you two together on the phone. Eddie is a very quiet spoken guy, a very nice guy. I've spent probably 2 hours, perhaps 3 now, on the phone with him regarding the MC-30's I'm buying from him. 7. If I took a horn from a 928 and put it into my Khorn, would it sound like a 928?
  8. Thank you! [6] With that said, ebay killed the listing last night around midnight or so I guess. I got notification of it today in my email. The subject title was "TKO" something or another. I got a kick out of that. I was wondering though, what the dolt was thinking when I was so excited about flying there. Of course, I was completley lying about working for the airlines. I figure turnabout is fair play. Fortunately for me, the real seller is going to try to ship the real amp to me either today or more likely, next week. Then I got the MC-30's on the way from someone else. My wife is going to skin me with the 2102, MC-30's, OTL's & dbx amps laying around. I DO think though, that within this mix, I'll keep at minimum, the McIntosh amps and perhaps the OTL's. The dbx will be sold back to the original seller if he wants it. If he passes, it will go to ebay or Charles! []
  9. Ok, from beginning to end <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Im in process of buying a MC-2102 off Audiogon, from a physician http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstube&1138137755 Notice the picture pict0048 AND the pic of box showing the serial number (pict0053) Its a done deal & he has my check. Hes going to be sending it out shortly. Ok, on to Scam Part II Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/McIntosh-MC2102_W0QQitemZ5839288453QQcategoryZ71548QQtcZphotoQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Now, the long story short Look at his pics and notice TWO of them are identical to Audiogon listing. Ive made up a new screen name (evidently its hidden). I put a $14,000 bid on this puppy. Im just WAITING for him to scream that Ive scammed him. I will then be able to produce the VERY box & serial number HE purports to hold. I wonder how his story will change then. Scam part III This was put together on AudioKarma and this is the thread. Im Coytee there as well as here. The REAL seller is Skip. The first of the two guys did the I cant believe it is true listing about ebay & the second person found the REAL one that I in fact purchased. The saga should end tomorrow. Enjoy the reading http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=53802
  10. Thanks guys... (actually this is a shameless bump to get to top of list for any morning readers) []
  11. I just bought some McIntosh MC-30's off a very nice guy that lives in Richmond. He's never heard ANY Klipsch as far as I understand and evidently never even seen them. I sent him a picture of my Khorns in their temporary location and he was kind of intrigued by them. His local dealer (which IS a Heritage dealer) doesn't seem to indicate ANY reference to their existence on their website. He (Eddie) has his system set as far as quantity of items goes but he said he is VERY open to upgrading virtually anything in his system. He currently uses B&W 802 III if I recall him correctly. (I've never heard them) He's recently discovered tubes and is powering them with two brand new MC-275's. He said he loved the sweetness of the MC-30's but the 275's are just a bit stronger down low. He acquired the MC30's and DROVE THEM from Richmond to Knoxville so Terry DeWick could rebuild them. He messed around town while Terry had them and drove them back to Richmond. He said he did not trust shipping them. (how cool is that!) I spoke to Terry before buying them and Terry confirmed his entire story. Terry also said they were amongst some of the prettiest 30's he's seen. I'm excited about receiving the MC-30's and would love it if Eddie could have a chance to hear some Khorns sing (or other Heritage?) Sooooooooo, I told him I'd ask here and see if there was anyone in the Richmond area that would enjoy showing off their stuff. Any takers or suggestions? (I've already welcomed him to my house if he's in area again...he said he just might do it too) Richard
  12. [<)] Respect is slowly but surely returning back to Cincy!!
  13. *Hey, I am already In Dallas! You think he will let me come see them in person?* He might want to kick your hiney first...[:$]
  14. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh it's going to be an interesting day on Sunday!! (not to steal the thread away from the Titans... [:$])
  15. perhaps I should start calling him about....oh, say 3:30 on sunday night?? []
  16. C'mon... Bengals/Steelers is going to be THE game to watch! It will essentially be a playoff game for them. Bengals are up 1 game. Steelers beat Bengals earlier in year. Steelers WIN, they're tied and Steelers have conference lead AND 2 games on Bengals. Bengals win, they go up by 2 games AND (probably) better conference record. Although not mathematically definate, the winner of this game is most likely taking the crown. The Bengals have NOT been in this position in far longer than I care to try to remember. It's a 1 game season! let it all hang out & of course, my sympathies to the Steeler fans... []
  17. lol, I sent him a message pointing out the fallacy of his pictures... Here is his response: Hello! Thank you for viewing my listing. you obviously have much too much time on your hands. I suggest you try Soap Operas. Or perhaps you'd like to come to Dallas and speak to me face to face, punk. If you aren't too scared! Ruh roe... [:#]
  18. Major scam. Do lookup on ebay for LaScalas and you will see the other pair that he stole the pictures from. He's doctored the background, BUT... In the "real" picture, there is a stairway behind the speakers. Look at that picture and look at the TOP of the speaker and the REFLECTIONS of that which is behind it. Notice the reflection & the 2nd reflection in the middle of "the" reflection. Switch over to HIS pictures and look closely at the SAME reflections in the speaker
  19. Guess it's a bigger world than I'd thought! []
  20. For no real reason, I'm curious if you know a David Humphrey http://masters-photo.com/ He's from Michigan and recently bought something off of me on ebay and today, came by to pick them up. He was here for (my wife says) 2 hours although I think it was shorter. SUPER nice guy and interesting person. During our conversation (he had his wife with him also), he mentioned some trade show that might have been in Indy or close by... Anyways, I don't know your full name so I asked him if he knew your screen name...he said he knew a Colter or two... That was end of our loading and they left soon after (trying to get themselves out of my area without getting lost !) Given your professions, it dawned on me that it was possible you might know of each other so i thought I'd ask and say they were very nice people. I guess it's one of those "it's a small world thing" if you do know him.
  21. Not to sound like I'm dissing Audioclassics (I'm not) because I too, looked at their stuff...but don't forget our local guy Terry DeWick and some of his toys (actually toys of his partner I belive...but Terry puts them into 100% mechanical shape) http://www.mcintoshaudio.com/ Also not cheap...in fact, perhaps similarly priced to Audioclassics. For what I was looking at, the prices were identical and I figured if I bought anything, I'd rather support my local economy AND have benefit of saving shipping. Just a .02 thing []
  22. Ya got the Bengals coming to your house next! Why is that the bright side? a) You win & the division is a race again with you having beat Bengals twice You lose and the Bengals end your suffering with dignity, rather than let it drag out rest of season. I'm a fan of B of course [6]
  23. Brings back memories. I think it was the "F" model? I saw them & thought they looked VERY cool & came close to buying a pair just because of that. (this is where the memories come back) I also had some bookshelf sized speakers that sounded very nice as I recall, that had the Heil AMT tweeter. I think I used those Heil speakers in my car... [:$]
  24. Looked at 2102 on McIntosh's site today. Doesn't look as though it has ANY input knobs. All it says on their site is Sensitivity: 2.5 volts unbalanced inputs 5.0 volt balanced input Life was so much easier before I discovered how nice tubes can sound lol []
  25. Thank you (everyone). Been snooping around and think I just might buy one of those MC-2102's. I LOVE the way they look. When I talked to McIntosh today on phone, he told me the input sensativity on it is about 2.5 volts. Given what Mark presumes above about the OTL's being 2.5 (I don't know if accurate or not), if that is the same, then it suggests to me that the 2102 might be as quiet as the OTL's. Will know more shortly about the 2102. If I disappear forever, you may presume I got it and the wife had issues. lol [:$]
