  1. You never cease to amaze me, either in your pursuits, or in your ability to document them.
  2. I agree with that Dean. John's post was fine, and he didn't deserve that, or the personal attacks you received. I also feel you were correct to report it. I dont think locking in this instance would be the right call if the OP doesn't engage in the mud slinging. It would only punish the OP. I think the proxy and the emoticon poster should have been warned right then and there. People who get a warning in the thread typically either acknowledge they were wrong, disengage, respectively disagree about being wrong but will abide, or melt down.
  3. Been there before, damned if you do, damned if you don't. Lock the thread and punish the OP. Let it continue and degrade. Personally I like to give reminders and steer the thread away from the personal and back to on topic. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Proxy postings and emoticons aren't against the rules. Smattered amongst the angst was some good technical debate and many members wanted the discussion to continue. Carl, I have seen your approach work many, many times in the past. In my opinion it has gotten many threads back on track and saved them. I think it is a function of who you are dealing with and whether the have a sincere desire to to make a positive contribution. Others have an agenda and there is nothing you can do. Locking a thread that never should have been started in the first place is very appropriate in my opinion. This is wasn't one of those situations. A gentle reminder, which was done,, then discussion about warning points, which was done, some constructive advice from other posters to get back on track, which was done. And when that was done. In the rare instances where you have people who just wont listen you give the nine points. It is not even being banned. What do parents learn very early on if you do not impose the consequences you say you will if X happens? They continue the behavior. These are adults here, but you will always have some who don't care what the consequences are. If warning points had not been given, after multiple warnings, it would have sent the worst possible message. What is very telling is what the response is to earning points. It has already been explained by you and others that they mean almost nothing until you get to 10. But I have heard people have quit because they receive a single point. I think that is a pretty tail tale sign they are unreasonable. I think the thread should remain open and John allowed to respond about his design in the high road fashion he has been, and the posts that were attacks on him or others, or attempts to sabotage him should be deleted. Amy learned early on that threads like this get linked in other forums. She has deleted threads involving ALK for this reason. The OP doesn't deserve that, and I don't think Klipsch wants this "drama" on here. 10 years of drama with that person who received warning points have been linked in this thread. He is a Klipsch Basher. I could see trying to give him a chance after 9 years to see if he has changed, but he didn't. He is a Klipsch Basher. Why on earth would anyone want back hand slaps at Klipsch to remain on here?
  4. Didn't mean to suggest that, well actually I guess I did. Three moderators were posting in that thread without saying anything. In my view you were the first to confront the directly in the thread. But I do understand you work together, and Dave discussed his thoughts in there about points.
  5. Forbes article on "encore careers." A career change between 40 and 70. http://www.forbes.com/sites/kerryhannon/2011/11/29/eying-a-late-career-change-youve-got-company/
  6. What career is that, if you don't mind saying?
  7. Once In A Lifetime Lyrics And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack And you may find yourself in another part of the world And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife And you may ask yourself Well...How did I get here? Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again After the money's gone Once in a lifetime Water flowing underground And you may ask yourself How do I work this? And you may ask yourself Where is that large automobile? And you may tell yourself This is not my beautiful house And you may tell yourself This is not my beautiful wife Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again After the money's gone Once in a lifetime Water flowing underground Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Water dissolving...and water removing There is water at the bottom of the ocean Under the water, carry the water at the bottom of the ocean Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again Into the silent water Under the rocks and stones There is water underground Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again After the money's gone Once in a lifetime Water flowing underground And you may ask yourself What is that beautiful house? And you may ask yourself Where does that highway go to? And you may ask yourself Am I right?...Am I wrong? And you may say to yourself yourself My God!...What have I done?! Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again Into the silent water Under the rocks and stones There is water underground Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again After the money's gone Once in a lifetime Water flowing underground Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Look where my hand was Time isn't holding us Time isn't after us Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Yeah, the twister comes Here comes the twister Same as it ever was...
  8. Well in that thread, it arguably could be considered to be humorous entertaining. Howevwr, Al has a history here, a history of personally attacking Klipsch employees. A history of being told he is welcome here but he needs to lose the attitude. He chose to "resign" and proceed to get "banned" from other forums. At some point I think we need to ask ourselves, at what point is enough? One of the moderators has obviously "seen the light."
  9. There is a great video of Kevin interviewing Mr. Klipsch in his office with his friend videotaping, and Kevin asks him a question about something. PMK pauses and thinks for a moment and reaches for a binder and starts flipping through articles, obviously to come up with a precise answer. As PMK is digging Kevin proceeds to ask another question, not nearly as technical, I suspect he thought he would get a quick answer from PMK and his video wouldn't be filled with silence, PMK tells Kevin that he needs to approach one question at a time. He digs for a few more minutes, finds what he is looking for and answers Kevin's question. Kevin starts to say something and PWK says somethink like "now to your other question" and he starts digging out a different reference, more silence, more digging, serious technical answer in laymans terms. Kevin quit asking technical questions and asked if he could buy the company (he was punking PMK). PMK punked him back and said "sure, you got ___ million dollars"? Never arrogant, never condescending. Some people can pull off flashing a BS badge without coming off as either, others can't. Most people learn quickly whether they can, some never do.
  10. I suspect he wouldn't have engaged them directly, but rather used his intelligence and rapier wit to point out their foolishness. (You would know way better than me). Case in point, his article about the amplifier-space heater combo.
  11. Diamonds Are Forever. He ends up dead in that movie. We had Old Buckster, R.I.P., he fit that role pretty well, along with Maron, who I hope will return here and fill that role again soon. Neither of them were hawking any wares on here, and neither of them pissed on Klipsch. There are a few resturants in the U.S. that are famous for having rude waiters, it is kind of an act. There was a place in Las Vegas that was famous for the rude owner. My point is, it certainly has its place. A newsletter or blog writer, comedian, etc., shock jock radio, Imus/Howard Stern-a place where you control the parameters. Here it isn't appropriate.
  12. You Sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I mean that sincerely. Travis
  13. Well I suggested you go back and delete the first two paragraphs. It is not the mods, it is you Al. The mods are not Klipsch employees. They are volunteers, some with more technical backgrounds than others. But they can spot arrogance and condescension when they see it. Nothing ever changes, I hope the mods go back and delete every one of Al's posts, including the emoticons. His agenda has not changed one iota from when he "resigned" in 2006 (he was never banned from this forum, he was warned in '06 and he left). I'm just feel bad for the OP, a long time forum member comes in and posts an idea, and is perfectly willing to explain it, answer questions, He responded like a professional, like an adult. He didn't sink to their level, he took the high road. That's called professionalism, and you don't have to have a degree to have it (although I guess he apparently has three). Hopefully this thread will be cleaned up before John returns. Travis
  14. "I thought this stupidity was done with! This is an example of somebody talking about things he clearly doen't understand! I thought I tought him better, I suppose not!" You really need to go. This thing was back on track until you just popped back in. That post would have been perfect witthout the first two paragraphs. It is unnecessary to your point. You might want to consider editing it before the mods see it, or worse, Chad. Or not. I suspect you may say "it's the truth, why should I change it" and in that case, I think it is pretty clear what your agenda really is.
  15. XLR to 1x RCA When connecting a 3-pin XLR to one RCA, you use the same wiring as if you were connecting an XLR to a 1/4" (jack) plug. The positive and shield of the XLR are joined together, either at the XLR end or the RCA end. The easiest way is to solder a link between pins 1 and 3 (shield and negative) of the XLR, rather than trying to solder the shield and negative wire to the sleeve contact of the RCA. This produces an unbalanced audio cable.
  16. http://www.studiowiring.com/mconnect.html Great looking stuff. Juniper, why would you go xlr to rca cable over an adapter?
  17. Oh no, Vienna Beef, I have eaten at least 1000 lbs of those @ 1/4 lb per dog, that is 20 lbs of the "other thing." Ewwwwwwwwwwwww
  18. Yeah, cool, Hebrew National, they answer to a higher authority. Very Cool. I am trying to think of the brand that is always listed on the menu of places that do Chicago style hotdogs. It is a blue logo if I recall.
  19. So true, Travis! As I have your attention, my TC-765 has the weirdest issue. No sound from line or headphone out but the meters are showing it just fine. I am certainly no tech but I've half a century of experience with various issues and from what I know this just doesn't seem likely. I thought that the meters were about the last thing before output. Any thoughts from you or anyone else on this? Dave Just a real quick thought, on some models plugging in a headphone jack defeats the line output. Every once in awhile that headphone input pack breaks in such a way that is is cutting of the line out, however, that would not explain why you are not getting anything out of the headphones either. The preamp out is "after the meeters." So that could have given out, you would get meter readings, but no line output.
  20. Cannot bear to listen and'or read that. Please tell me it is just one brand, or that one brand came up clean. Hebrew National? Anything?
  21. Here is photo of rear panel, you need 4 adapters XLR female and 2 XLR male, all rca female if I am looking at the right, but you need someone to confirm this. EDIT: rechecked this looking at the photo of the real panel I attached, and it is in fact, 4 XLR female to RCA female adapters and 2 XLR male to RCA female adapters.
  22. Which things? XLR Cables or DX38 (Active crossover):?
  23. Here is a link to Markertek where you can order cable with XLR on one end, RCA Male on the other. You can pick the length of the cable and the color. http://www.markertek.com/product/sc6xjrbn/canare-star-quad-cable-xlr-female-to-rca-male-6-foot-brown
  24. There is link to Markertek where I did a search for "XLR to RCA" adapater. They are not actually cheaper like I thought, this is because they are selling the higher end pre-made brands that are used in the recording/broadcasting industry. http://audio-video-supply.markertek.com/search?w=xlr+to+rca++adaptor&sitepref=1
