  1. Oh, I wasn't sure the grills were suppose to come with them. I have them as well, but I thought that the original owner just added them for kicks. Either way, the difference I have noticed was the cabinet face being flush, with the drivers seated back into the cabinet, and the copper klipsch plate is on the cabinet. Is that the only difference? They look sharp:) I have mine painted a satin black and a good deal of the wood grain shows through, they look brand new!
  2. Well, I guess you aren't paying for the grills with the decorator versions. I'm sure neither of us were born when these were selling though, so that rules out actually seeing the pricetags! However, as far as making an objective decision towards decorator being cheaper, there are no grills. I would still guess they would cost the same as the regulars anyways.
  3. Huh. well, I guess I will consider myself lucky then!
  4. I've noticed there haven't been any decorator model heresy speakers on ebay. Were there not as many of these made as the regular models? Were they priced any different than the regulars? I am just a little curious because I have a decorator pair and haven't seen any like them.
  5. Well I guess the 16 ohm mid driver explains everything:) And yes, I tested the resistance of the driver while disconnected from the crossover
  6. I just did a little testing of my mid-range speakers in my heresies, and they both read around 10.6 ohms, is that right?? They sound fine to me... the tweeters run around 6.8 ohms. I was under the impression there are both 8 OHM drivers.?
  7. You know, I am trying to enjoy listening to music through this amp (ax-596), but I feel like it is so bright that it is trying to bite my head off. It is unfortunate that I paid near 400 dollars for this amp, but I can't really enjoy listening to it with my heresy speakers. Sometimes it is just impossible to audition, but the specs looked good. Would it be worth selling this thing and going with one of those vintage HK receivers? I am just worried that the sound wouldn't be as detailed. Again this amp is incredibly detailed, though ridiculously bright in the upper midrange and treble. I would hate to believe that my heresy speakers were the culprit;)
  8. After sanding, smoothing out, and refinishing my heresy cabinets I realized that my woofers really stand out and look very very old in comparison to the rest of the material's in my heresy speakers. Any particular way to remove old dirt and crud from these paper speakers without doing damage?
  9. Hey guys, my heresy speakers have the K-77 tweeter driver installed. Is there a particular upgrade that could work to increase the frequency response on the high end as well as give a cleaner sound? I have the original tweeters in a pair of '77 heresy's. I believe the midrange and bass sound great (with a sub), but the high end is not as smooth and detailed as I would like. I have heard people talk about cap upgrades, but that sounds pretty subjective. I have the old oil caps. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  10. I've already found some old nes games to have bass easily in the mid-30 hz range. Some dipping down below 30. By the way, just got my pb2+ and I am really impressed! It was really interesting playing super metroid- the rain/thunder atmosphere in the beginning had some nice 18 hz bass! Gonna check out LOTR first thing in the morning:)
  11. Nice... I am expecting my pb2+ in the mail today as well! I also couldn't help but notice the NES- sweet. Maybe you could find some crazy 20 hz bass in some old school NES games;)
  12. I especially like how the guy misses picking up the star card in that one level. Maybe he figured if he threw in one tiny little imperfection then it would cause people to think that he wasn't cheating:) That must have taken days of saves/loads to accomplish... the overall result is pretty entertaining to watch however. Actual accomplishments are a little more exciting though- I was able to pull off super metroid in 45 minutes back in '94 when I had my crazy teenager reflexes and hardcore video game-motivation.
  13. Too many guilty pleasures to list, to tell you the truth. Frampton comes alive, depeche mode, lots of cheesy styx songs, billy idol, the righteous brothers:) (had to throw in an oldy), beatles -hard day's night, devo, kansas, peter gabriel, tears for fears, iron maiden, and megadeth:) Oh, and maybe toss in the neverending story soundtrack in there for good measure
  14. Definitely decorator models then. How long was this style produced? They're so pretty! Now that I know who sanded my speakers 27 years ago I can also sleep better at night Thanks Ola Mae Davis;)
  15. the print on back is just too worn to read- the serials engraved in the box have an R (saying they are from '77) and there is also 'OD' on the upper-left corner of the back, not sure what that means.
  16. hey, have any of you guys seen a pair of heresy's where the face of the cabinet (with the drivers) is flush with the rest of the box? By this I mean, the grill will not fit 'into the cabinet face' but attach on to it(sticking out). The woofer is about 1/2" back in the cabinet. All pictures I have seen of heresy's have the face concave about 1/2" or so. Anyone else have a pair like this? They are from '77.
  17. The album Kind of blue, by Miles Davis. Or 'my favorite things' (Coltrane). Too hard for me to pick.
  18. I will have to give the reference a listen someday, but for now- they can't compete with a free pair of heresy speakers! Especially if the difference isn't night and day- mostly different timbre. I've ordered a svs sub to help out the little heresy's with the low end. Up all night is a great talking heads song. They generally have great recordings, as they are (were) some serious musicians.
  19. Glad to hear you got everything working. It is indeed a rarity when an employee at radio shack actually knows what they are talking about.
  20. How do you guys think the heresy I's would match up in relation with klipsch reference speakers today? I haven't had the priveledge of hearing klipsch reference main speakers, but the heresy's could easily match up or surpass some reference speakers from other brands that I have heard. Bass excluded:) You get subs for that anyways.
  21. Wow, I'd like to get a copy of that! I have personally only heard the no life til leather demo's, and a couple of other takes of hit the lights (with diff. bassists). On the demo's from '82 it was dave mustaine on lead guitar and hetfield on prepubescent vocals. I was never aware that mustaine did vocals, very interesting! Yep- he did co-write over half of the songs on kill em all, as well as ride the lightning. I can only hold him responsible for sending metallica in the direction they were going for those two perfect albums:) I wonder what had happened if mustaine was still with them.... in an alternate universe... that would mean no rust in peace or countdown to extinction
  22. Let's face it, metallica pulled a full 180 ever since the black album. And I am not talking just music, but attitude. If they ever said 'go f@ck yourself', it was probably in the earlier 80's mind you. After hearing about the whole napster deal- I just lost respect for lars and company. Yeah, their music style now is different, and is more conforming then ever. But hey, they just want to fit in with all the young alt-metal bands out there:) I think their stuff post-black album is ok, but I would stick an old ride the lightning cd in my player anyday:) Anways, I can't dislike this band no matter how hard I try. I was raised on it, got a ride the lightning tape from my older sister when I was 6. I'm seeing them in Madison this sunday, and last I checked they havent been playing many songs from load and up, yay! Let's see if I can forget all the nonsense and just imagine cliff burton playing bass. That would bring me to my happy place.
  23. I have a quick question about the pipe organs- why would that bottom c be tuned to 16 hz, which is generally recognized as being a frequency that is inaudible to human beings? I always thought that the bottom limit was 18-20 hz. Are k-horns really capable of hitting notes that low? That's really impressive! Most subs can't even hit notes like that. I personally prefer works by Bach, my all-time favorite from the late baroque period.
  24. That adapter won't work because it is an rca to stereo 1/8" adapter. You would need an rca to mono 1/8" adapter to accomplish this, since you will be connecting to one digital coax cable. This one should work for you, and it's gold plated:) http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F007%5F002%5F001%5F001&product%5Fid=274%2D897
  25. Hmm.. Heresy's are the best bookshelf speakers I can think of, but I guess they are somewhere in between bookshelf and floor-standing. That would be a heck of a lot cheaper than 2 g's! They seem to be pretty darn loud to me, but I guess I really don't know the specifics. Definitely my favorite klipsch speakers for the $ (used).
