  1. I haven't taken any max SPL measurements. The only measurements I've taken were for EQ'ing. I have the drivers wired for 8 Ohms so I'm only pushing 250 watts/driver. I've yet seen the need to wire for 2 Ohms. The SQ is absolutely phenominal. I went from an SVS PCU and PB12+2 (non-colocated) to the IB. My goal was to upgrade proof my bass and I think I've done it. I've had no desire to change. This is the 5'th different sub set-up I've had and I believe I'm done. Everything you've read about ease of installation, SQ and bang for the buck is true. As you know, it takes a decent sub to keep up with the efficiency of the RF-7's so....................................
  2. 1'st?????? Here's mine, but I doubt I'm the first. http://photobucket.com/albums/y290/cecaa850/ Sorry about the low res pics, they're from a disposable camera that was then scanned. I feel a nice digital camera coming on for my birthday. The drivers are the Avalanche 18's driven by a Behringer EP-2500. Carl
  3. I believe that the "fan" has to be set up like an IB also.
  4. The H/K 7200 (used) or 7300 work well with the Reference series. Plenty of power and slightly on the warmer side.
  5. I've had an RS-7 mounted on hollow wall anchors for over a year with no problems. If all of the force is exerted on the anchor in a downward fashion, you are fine. It's the mounts that pull the anchor outwards that give you trouble. The way the RS-7 is mounted to the wall, almost all of the force is shearing, not outwards. Carl
  6. If your garage has an attic, you could build an IB.
  7. No you're not crazy, the RC-7 is a hoss. I upgraded from the RC-35 also, no compairson. Now, crazy would be a 7.1 with RC-7's all around. Turn the Ft, Rear and Sides vertical, rotate the horns 90 degrees and your there!
  8. The L and R tweeters should be at ear level and if the center is not at ear level, it should be tilted accordingly towards you as the previous posters mentioned.
  9. The arc he is referring to is the distance from the L, R, and C should be the same in relation to the seated position. Picture yourself as the center of a circle and the L, C, and R speakers all in the same arc.
  10. TheEar: The Carver/RF-5 set up is in a very good room compared to my RF-7's. They sound awesome together. I bought the amp and preamp new MANY years ago but the current combo of amp/preamp/speaker is by far my favorite. Carl
  11. I've never known them to have a sale. They put their best price out there and that's it. I have seen discounts on B-stock items, discounts for repeat buyers and discounts on pre-orders before that particular model is available however.
  12. I put my blow up sheep in the corners when they're done "entertaining" me and use them as bass traps.

Have you tried The Home Theater Spot? As I remember they have an Earthquake section in their forum. Maybe someone there can give you an answer to your question. Good luck. ---------------- I believe that the "Spot" is now a pay to post site. You can read some of the sponsored threads but nothing else unless you pay for membership. I doubt they'll be around much longer as there are better, no cost sites out there allready. I've quit posting over there. Between here and AVS you have a tremendous ammount of knowledge and experience to draw from. I'd try AVS in the amplifier section
  15. For good priced drivers look at Ascendantaudio. They are in the middle of retooling for their new drivers but may still have some for sale. If you have the proper space you can build an IB subwoofer and not have to worry about cabinet size, porting(or not) etc. http://f20.parsimony.net/forum36475
  16. Timber matching a sub to mains is a non-issue.
  17. Play it till it bottoms and back it off a bit, you're there. That's the same logic as finding the proper torque on a bolt. Tighten it till it strips and back it up 1/4 turn.
  18. Flame me baby! I had the same set up as you. RF-7's and a PB12+2. After going back and forth between large and small, 80 and 60 x-over, I felt that small and an x-over of 80 sounded best to me. Remember that a crossover is not a brick wall and you want your sub and mains to be able to play an octave on the other side of the crossover. If your mains are set to 80, they need to be able to play down to 40. The usual disclaimers apply here as far as different rooms and equipment goes. Try them all and use the setting that sounds best to you in your room. The heck with the rest of us.

Are we talking about "white van specials" then? ---------------- Most definitely not white vanners. Rocket loudspeakers have a very loyal following and are an internet direct company.
  20. The RF-5's I have in my bedroom are anything but harsh. I drive them with an older Carver amp and preamp. I'll have to side with a former poster that advised to look into your room acoustics. I've had these same speakers in another room in my house and they sounded like crap. Where they are currently located really makes them shine. Carl
  21. You did say if I was him I would get the Reference 7's. After that, the part about demoing speakers went out the window. He obviously likes your system, respects your opinion and may not like to shop. Sounds like you are a good friend whose opinion he trusts. He may have assumed that you speaker shopped a lot and ended up with the Klipsch. Some people are impulse buyers and go with the opinion of someone they trust......like you.
  22. I'd be pissed if i gave him advice and he did the opposite.
  23. http://photobucket.com/albums/y290/cecaa850/ I see, thanks. I allways wondered what that button was for.
  24. Ken, or anyone, how do you make the link "clickable" as in your first post?
  25. Watching "The Incredibles" was the deciding factor in building my IB. I have a fairly decent size living room that I had a SVS PCU and PB12+2 in. The rocket scene and the scene where Mrs I and the kids crash into the water kept bottoming out my PCU. It was partially my fault as I calibrated the PCU to the same SPL as the +2 and it just couldn't hang. Long story short, they left and the IB has taken over LFE duties. I had the feeling that there would more movies mixed like The Incredibles and I didn't want to go through that again. http://photobucket.com/albums/y290/cecaa850/
