  1. Yeah, thats the new Stereo amp from NOS Valves. I built and finished the base and painted the transformer bells myself and provided the stainless bolts for them. Craig let me do this 'cause we're old buds! The outputs are 350B (the Valve Art version) and the rectifiers are old American 5U4G.
  2. I might drag it home for a listen in the main system at some point, but I'm pretty lazy so maybe not!
  3. Those are Craig's tubes. I'll be running Telefunken smooth plate 12AX7 and Amperex Bugle Boy 12AU7 with NU or Sylvaina 5U4G rectifiers. The outputs will be the Valve Art 350B--gotta preserve the WE 350B for MC30s--I have a lifetime supply!
  4. I had Craig put my switch on the back. Yes, it's for my office.
  5. Look at these pictures that Craig sent me over the weekend. My Stereo Amp is complete--it will be shipped out this week:
  6. My SPUs run with the back of the arm up just a TINY bit from parallel. Maybe 2mm or so? I set it by listening and this is where I seem to end up.
  7. Can't wiat till one of these babies is pumping out sweetness from my office deep in the heart of old Hollywood!
  8. Long Beach Grand Prix. Otherwise, I'd be there. Have fun!!
  9. How about sending the unit back to Audio Research?
  10. Go to the roof of your building, look over the edge to make sure nobody's in the way and HEAVE! Sure to make you feel better, at least for a minute or two!!
  11. Yeah, and enter the world of sh!tty sounding audio!!!
  12. Here is the ULTIMATE solution to your power woes: I had very LOW voltage in my older neighborhood (102-105 volts during peak hours) which caused my CD player to HUMMMM like a banshee. The P300 Power Plant CURED the problem FOREVER! This new unit can power your entire system! http://www.psaudio.com/products/premier_power_plant.asp
  13. I turn my amps on every day I am in town. I listen for between 2 and 8 hours every day. I haven't had a single tube go bad in my power amps in SEVEN YEARS. I have had ONE power tube go bad in SIXTEEN YEARS (a Mullard EL37) and one 12BH7 and one rectifier (GEC U52) in SIXTEEN YEARS. I have had TWO tubes go bad in my preamp in ELEVEN YEARS (both within a week of each other this year). Pretty darn reliable. I use nothing but high quality vintage American and European tubes.
  14. I just read this entire thread. 13 and one half minutes I will never get back. I should have just turned than Ken McInyre LP over instead, something I'm going to do right now!!
  15. Amy-- You're right. I guess I don't understand why some people get so worked up about the Jubilee--but the very mention of this speaker seems to really BOTHER some folks, not just Parrot. I sure would like to hear the Jubilee--I doubt I would ever own a pair given my currect living space, but one day--WHO KNOWS? By the way, the "finished" version photoshoped elsewhere is NOT "plug ugly." Huge? Impractical in most living environments? Sure, but I could certainly live with them if I had the space!!! Maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to hear a pair . . .
  16. How many folks have Jubilees? A handful? How about creating a section on the forum for Jubille owners and those interested in hearing about them? I mean, I enjoy hearing about them and following the banter back and forth, but these threads tend to be controversial and have really caused lots of heartache. Just a suggestion.
  17. Why not do this via PM or email given all the heartache and bad feelings these threads seem to cause? Just wondering . . . .
  18. While not as "quiet" as most modern high-end tables, a TD-124 if properly rebuilt and placed in a proper plinth is VERY quiet!!!

  21. It's more the SPU than the table, I think. And the SPU only works with big, heavy tonearms. And the big, heavy tonearms seem to have a synergy with old rim drive tables with massive platters.. Put them all together and it's a match made in heaven--especially when listening to acoustic music that is almost all midrange (jazz fits this description perfectly). Add in the McIntosh tube gear (warm, lush uber-rich midrange) and Cornwalls (THE best speaker I have ever owned when it comes to reprducing horns and female vocals--JAZZ!) and you have a system built for jazz vinyl. When I put a rock record on the bass sounds downright tubby and the highs are SHREIKING--it makes me want to run out of the room! Chamber music does fine, but big, complex orcherstal music sounds a bit muddy--not TERRIBLE as with rock, but still not great. But so what? Like I said, I spent YEARS looking for the perfect combonation for the music I listen to. And I found it.
