  1. "More control when listening to music?" What exactly is it that you are looking for more control of?
  2. I guess we should answer your original question. Just about everything you download is going to be compressed. This will cause a reduction in fidelity. Converting the files back to wave does not help; the data was lost in the compression. Since you specified, "High End listening" the quick answer is you can't. If you can, take a well-recorded CD and rip it to MP3 files at 320, 256 and 128 then compare each to the original CD. That should give you enough information about the quality to allow you to decide if you want to go forward with downloading music and if so at what rate.
  3. Congratulations on functionality with out casualties!

  5. Hi Rich, Q1 - Make sure that is a phonograph input and not a headphone output! Q2 - You don't have to split S/PDIF to get two channels. It is a digital signal path and supports multiple channels. Edit: In re-reading your original post it does not sound like your receiver has digital inputs so the S/PDIF will NOT work with your receiver.
  6. Bob, That is essentially what djk suggested earlier with the new twist of using a microphone and amplification or scope to monitor the output.
  7. I was thinking of a one shot trigger on the scope watching for the leading edge of an impulse like a clap - not a steady signal. I hadn't thought of the dual trace and a reference speaker!
  8. Since a speaker can act like a microphone, could you tell the polarity by placing a scope on the driver inputs, now outputs, make a loud sound in front of the driver and watch the polarity of the produced wave? (Of course, that assumes you have a scope!)

I would argue that what you did is not that little! You placed some absorption behind your head to remove at least the high frequency reflections and also deadened the room. From what you said in other posts I think you needed both. But - be careful of just adding "treatments" randomly! You can also make the situation worse by adding things.

I am willing to wager that not a one of you could pick out the MP3 if I played one of my finely encoded ones in a blind test against the cd. You truly WOULD have to have golden ears to claim to hear a difference, even on an unforgiving system. ---------------- If you had it playing when I walked into the room - you are correct, I probably could not tell you which it was. BUT, in an A/B comparison, which I have done, it is no contest! Edit: How big a wager can I get on this?

  12. I have been having problems accessing the forum for the last couple of days! I have also checked the main Klipsch site and was having problems getting to it.

I know not ALL of you have your K-horns improperly setup, but it seems that the majority do. For example, I know from his pictures that Parrot has his setup correctly and I'm sure there are many others. But I'm surprised by how many of you aren't even CLOSE to getting a proper stereo image. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I put a new tops on the base bins so that they can stay in the corner and I can toe in the HF cabs - they are aimed at my chair. (Both horizontally and vertically.) End response to rant! Edit: Hopefully this information will also let Paul rest easier knowing that Pythagoras is quite comfortable listening to his favorite tunes in my living room!

  20. It sounds like the 2A fuses are speaker protection and are not critical to the amps functioning. Enjoy the music!
  21. Is it a speaker protection fuse or is in there to protect the electronics? If they wanted a slow blow wouldn't that be indicated in the labeling?
  22. Hello Mike and welcome to the forum! You would probably get a better response if you post your question in the Architectural forum, a little further down on the main page. Good Luck!
  23. Don't worry, they're all great!
