  1. I'm always surprised to see that the horn is not horizontal. How's the horizontal dispersion on that speaker anyway? Wouldn't it be better on the other axis?
  2. I tried to upload the 1960 Cornwall photo I have but the file is too big. Can I email to someone to modify and post? Sure. Here goes...

  4. When i get the TIMEOUT error, I just hit the RETRY button and my text window comes back.
  5. And the second. Hope this helps...

  7. What year and conditions are they in? These are stock? Or fancy builds or rebuilds from Dean, Bob or Al? This info will help potential buyers...
  8. Thanks guys! I'll have to listen for these effects carefully to see if I can hear them (and not blame my 31 year-old AA crossovers! ) Then I'll read up on Rope Caulk. The Dynamat stuff looks fairly expensive for the quantities needed (unless the whole horn doesn't need to be caulked). Thanks again! This guy is keeping his La Scala's!!
  9. Well, I listed the prices in my initial post if you look again: USPS Airmail Parcel Post (4 - 10 Days) US$55.25 FedEx International ground (9 days) US$48.65 With USPS, I'll be charged 15% tax on the value of the goods plus a C$5 handling fee. With FedEx, I'll likely be charged the same 15% tax and an unknown and variable brokerage fee. I may go FedEx to get tracking; the difference in price will likely end up being similar unless FedEx has really outrageous brokerage fees.

That looks heavy on that TV! And huge! A single Heresy will be on the way shortly. I'll try that first anyway. Thanks!
  11. I've been doing a bit of searching with google, and it appears that all packages that go through FedEx go through a custom broker and the rate varies depending on the broker that handled your package, with no way to know in advance. The $7 price difference might cover it, or it might not. I don't know if they charge a flat rate or a percentage.
  12. While the Elite's are generally much better built than Pioneer's, the gap is smaller on the Pioneer VSX-1014TX, $367.99 at www.etronics.com. It's supposed to be pretty close to the Elite 52. They also have the Pioneer VSX-D914K for $310 and the Pioneer VSX-D814-S for $240. Over at www.ecost.com, they have the Harman/Kardon AVR-235 for $349.22 Personally, I'd go h/k 235 over all the Pioneers except the VSX-1014TX. All of these have all pre-outs.
  13. Since you're looking for all pre-outs, I'll just mention that this was a criteria of mine when I purchased a receiver last winter. You need to go fairly up in the Denon line-up to get that (except in this year's models). Pretty much all harmon/kardon's have them except the lowest, the avr-130. The Pioneer D812 and D912 were low cost and had pre-outs, but I don't think they compare to h/k for quality. You could also look at NAD. Last year's NAD T742 is cleared for $399 (not has few features) and the T752 for a bit more (much more features). Look for factory refurbs at www.ecost.com. Hope this helps a little...
  14. " and the box resonance of the plywood cabinet systems, gave a boxy, underdamped frequency hang over to the bass response." I'd say he hit that dead on. See what a cabinet brace looks like: http://www.hps4000.com/pages/525_.html Looks like a modded La Scala. Has anyone ever tried this mod on a La Scala to see if it makes a difference? Anyway, I can't hear a hang after a quick bass note... - "The most common disadvantage is a resonance in the throat of the horn that comes from an underdamped structure." 25 years ago VanAlstine was beating the drum for Moretite on the K400 throat and horn. The fact that the 'new' K400 is made of plastic changes how the resonances sound, it doesn't eliminate them. What does that sound like? Can you feel a vibration it by putting your hand on the horn?
  15. Very few recommended that I try an RC-7 for my La Scala, and I'd guess your Forte are closer in sound to La Scala than they are to the Reference line. Would another Forte II fit?
  16. ---------------- On 11/18/2004 1:45:26 PM Frzninvt wrote: USPS offers no means of tracking the package, I sent a DBX10/20 Eq to Canada once via USPS it took 55 days to reach him. I did this because he wanted to avoid all the broker/customs fees that UPS hit him up with on a DBX amp and preamp that I had sent him. The USPS was useless in trying to help locate it and could offer no assistance until at least 30 days had transpired. I would go Fedex if it were me. ---------------- So FedEx don't charge an arm and a leg for brokerage fees (like UPS does)? I'd get only a C$5 handling fee to collect the 15% combined federal and provincial taxes using USPS.

  18. If I were to have a Heresy shipped from California to Quebec Canada, which should I use for the approx 40 lbs package? USPS Airmail Parcel Post (4 - 10 Days) US$55.25 FedEx International ground (9 days) US$48.65 Is one better with customs and collecting taxes? Is one more gentle with packages? Thanks!
  19. Location, location, location... Locals will be much more eager to buy them, so where are you?
  20. Dampening the Klipsch horn lens with rope caulk does improve the sound. I first read about this yesterday! What sound should I be looking for to see if I would benefit from this?
  21. Here they are inline... The harsh light of the flash... I bet it doesn't look as bad in real life: Nice gloss on this one: And on this one:
  22. I hate when I have a typo in the subject line...
  23. I guess Klipsch don't leave anyone indifferent. There's a Klipsch discussion going on at ecoustics.com where someone that "old Klipsch for many, many years" says: - "The Heresy was honky and boomy" - "The LaScala on up in the Klipsch line was a horn loaded bass alignment that allowed for quick transient attack (the advantage of horn loading); but, did not damp the woofer's movement after the signal had finished. This, and the box resonance of the plywood cabinet systems, gave a boxy, underdamped frequency hang over to the bass response." - "The most common disadvantage is a resonance in the throat of the horn that comes from an underdamped structure." You can read it at http://forum.ecoustics.com/cgi-bin/bbs/show.pl?1/109192 and scroll down to Thursday, November 18, 2004 - 01:35 am by J. Vigne. -- I guess I could turn my La Scala around to see if the mid-horn "resonates" or not. Should be easy to tell if it does just by touching it? And I've never described the La Scala bass as "boxy". Anyone care to comment on the above?
  24. Try the Academy's and see if you like them there. I agree that more Forte's can't be bad, and you could make 2 forums members very happy selling your spare Academy's and easily pay for the Forte's!
