  1. Speaker cables another subject I like! For the RF-3's or any RF series speakers I would use the inexpensive UltraLink 12 and 10g.Inexpensive and you can pass all the juice you want. From $1 to $1.50/feet,good value. And you can get spade or banana conectors.I use WBT and UltraLink.A bit on the expensive side. IXOS also males great inexpensive consctors. My main sets of speaker cales are Monster Sigma and M2.4S Biwire.I also have Cardas GoldenCross and Transparent speaker cables. On my way to get a complete MIT set. Hey I am a real audiophile what can I do? TheEAR(s) Now theears
  2. The RF3's I think are rated up to 150W RMS,this is huge.take into consideration how sensitive these speakers are, woth a 50W RMS input your ears will bleed! I have a pair of RF-5's,just got them and damn these can spit unhuman volumes.I cut the mains at 80Hz,the Sunfire subs take over under 80Hz.The sound is BIG,and I took the TFM-75 amp to teast the RF-5's to the near maximum. The meters never hit 400W peak and my ears almost failed! LOL 150W RMS is huge with a sensitivity of 98dB with one watt at a one meter distance these can rip.600W peak is plenty, like I said I did not hit 400W peak on the RF-5's,about the same sensitivity. 3. Craig your Yamaha DSP-A1 should have no real trouble driving a 4 ohm load.As long as the speakers dont dip to low, then the presented load could drop to below 3 ohms and then the Yamaha amps would be sweating. And Fried Elliott since you bring the huge Krell Master Reference Amp,I can tell you even my much less potent Krell FPB600 gives 600W RMS into 8 ohms,1200W RMS into 4 and a monster 2400W RMS into 2 ohms! This is per channel, both channel driven!Furthermore the big Krell has a grip and sound quality unmatched by any other amp besides the huge Mark Levinson reference,Boulder reference and Pass X1000 monoblocks. Krell also makes the superlative 650 monoblocks,650W RMS into 8 ohms,1300 and then 2600W into 2 ohms. These are a bit too expensive at $25000US/pair!.The FPB is just on the limit of ok at $13000. I love BIG amps,I have a small collection. The classic Carver TFM-75 is in it.1KW RMS per channel. And other less powerful ones like the Celeste 4250SE,at 500W RMS into 4 ohms per channel. 4. KLF30 VS RF7 All I can say is so far the RF-5(not up to the RF7's)sound very good,no agresstive ear bleeding harshness. Not to say the KLF30's are harsh, they expose bad amps and front end. When used with high quality solid state or tubes the KLF30 has strong points the currsnt RF series lacks. The horn loaded midrange and tweeter projects sound and sound a bit better to my ears.I like my music to sound real, real big.And the KLF30's can give you a huge sound with just a few watts. If a quality amp is used with the KLF30 the bass will improve alot, better definition and the "harshness" will go away. Just like I said before the KLF30's were too large for my room. And with all the gear in place I would have to sit against the back wall to get amy stereo image. If I had a large room I would go for the KLF30,20 combo. With the ATI2505 the dynamics would be killer. I like what I hear from the RF5's,very smooth!A real surprise from Klipsch. Many audiophiles who complained should now praise Klipsch.I prefer overall the RF5 to even the KLF30 on most types of music. For heavy metal and Metallica the KLF30 has no equal. It will knock the dentition out and ask for more. For me the RF series(RF5 up)is a better overall choice.I still think Klipsch should have kept the horn loaded midrange. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  5. Plywood is best used when curved to make horns in horn loaded speakers.I know an audiophile who built Altec Voice of the Theater speakers and he used Plywood all around. The speakers feature curved plywood pieces to form the woofer horn. The bracing is very extensive.Very nice built. These monsters can play loud with just a few watts.I a bit like the Klipsch Horn. Now plywood VS MDF,MDF takes the win.A well braced MDF cabinet is more inert then one made ot of plywood. When cabinets resonate the speakers have nasty colorations. Some manage to hide the minute defects quite well by voicing the speakers with care. And then there is ceramic, marble and concrete mix cabinets! These are ideal(not the weight and cost). Thiel uses composite conctere bafles, very nice. And a small company called nOrh makes some of the best monitors in the world and uses marble for the cabinets! I am about to order the nOrh 9.0(main) and 7.0(sourround).All I can tell you I heard these when visiting another audiophile maniac like me.WOW these speakers are amazing.nOrh is the SVS of speakers, its a small company known only to a few audiophiles who makes outstanding quality speakers and sells them direct! So speakers can be built form many materials the end result will depend on good design and smart cost cuts. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  6. KLF30's great speakers,I almost purchased a pair. They are a bit on the large, very large size.Very dynamic. Yes you could use the KSPS6 as a sourround. It can keep up with the KLF30's even at very high volumes. Of course if you could get the KLF20's then,ah.Perfect match.Oh well I will get the RF7's and use the RF5's as sourrounds! Should give me a great match. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  7. deang idea is good and simple.Just make sure no joker turns the volume way up or you may have to relpace ear drums! Any speakers can be verified this way,for woofers you can move the cone(push in),if you hear any friction then the voice coil of the woofer is off center and the driver is to be reconed or replaced. Just dont push tweeters and midrange membranes, its deadly. TheEAR(s) Theears
  8. You bet they are compatible. Any good amplifier with the that can drive tough loads will be great, and the Klipsch speakers are easy loads. So any real amp will do,and with separates you will beat the performance of any reciever. I started using a Denon 3801 and then added a nice ATI 1505 and WOW.The dynamics, the detail and the grip the large amps have is unmatched by recievers, even the BIG "reference" recievers.I Compared my Denon 3801 to mt large Denon 5800 reciever,The 5800 sounds better,DUH.And then I conected the ATI 1505 to the 3801 and voila. The 3801 ples 1505 outperformed the 5800.So I added a nice 2505 to the 5800! HE HE HE Now I have THE power to grip and drive any speakers I want. To furter push the limits I tried my main music only amp(used with real High-End)the mighty and world class Krell FPB600.Guess what? LOL You may have guessed now the dynamics were HUGE,not a single trace of strain, this herculean amp can deliver a monster 1200W RMS inti 4 ohms(Dynaudio Contour 3.3)per channel(both channles driven.Talk about power. And I also tried my older Carver TFM-75 dual mono amp(like the Krell),not as powerful but still 1000W RMS both channels driven(full band with rating)4 ohms.He he again the power was with no end,the only negative the Carver is a bit more noisy, the Krell is silent. So to end this story yes the Adcom is a very good choice.beats any reciever to the ground. And my ATI amps knock recever amps out of the ring in 30 seconds or less. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  9. Marantz SR18EX,great reciever.I almost purchased this unit, just the dealer had on display a Denon 5800 and I could not resist. I dont even use the amps in the 5800!ATI 2505 takes the load and drives the speakers.Same deal with the 3801 it teamed with the ATI 1505. I too had Adcom, great amps for a down to earth price. After my Adcom was replaced by ATI.Now I have two,the 1505 and 2505.ATI is a bit like Adcom with even more tank like build. I have a power amp fetish! LOL I also have the Carver TFM-75,Celeste 4250,4150,4070 and MOON W5.And my crown jewel is the Krell FPB600,purchased this monster second hand. The owner found tubes were mor his liking and went with Audio Research.I dont need to tell you the FPB600 is on a short list of the world's best solid state amps. Now I have an eye on the new BAT VK-6200 6 channel power amp!LOL Electricity bills are heavy, and I am lucky I dont live in California or I would be broke.LOL TheEAR(s) Now theears
  10. The HK 8000 should be a great sounding reciever with more features and power most could ask for.On paper that is.I did listen to the HK 7000 and its a very good reciever, its also very large for a reciever. The large HK feature solid amplifiers to drive almost any speakers you can throw at them. The large transformers and large capacitors are a rare sight on recievers. I have two recievers both Denon, the 5800 and 3801.The 5800 is a beast, built like a tank and with all the features and power to be the center piece of a refined HT system. The 3801 is also full of similar features but lacks the amp punch the 5800 has. I use an ATI 1505 with the 3801 and the ATI 2505 with the 5800!I find the integrated amps dont have the grip and guts needed. ATI amps are very underrated. The 1505 and 2505 are real beasts.74 and 105 lbs each! And my most sicko experiment was to use a Krell FPB600 as main amp,Celeste MOON W5 for sourrounds and a Celeste 4250SE bridged mono on the center!I dont need to tell you the power and freedom fron any audible compression was breathtaking. 11. JimG hope you are right,I took several pain killers!I saw the pics of the new RSW series, they look gorgeous. I want my RSW15 and RSW12. TheEAR(s) cannot leave the poor little RF-5 with no help! And my Klipsch dealer told me the RF-7 is not yet out in Canada!? And the same goes for the RC-7! My plan is to buy the RF-7,RF-5(great have it!) and the matching RC-7 center speaker. Yes I will use the RF-5 as sourround! LOL Its like my main Dynaudio Contour system,Contour 3.3's,Contour Center and Contour 1.1's for sourrounds! Aerial SW12 and Revel B15 subs cover the low end. The ATI 2505 amp wants to drive the RF series, and I want to hear the full power of Klipsch. Overkill, you bet! TheEAr(s) Now theears
  12. September 10 is the day! The pics of the new RSW subs are great.I need my specs to live, this will make the wait for the subs to arrive at the dealer less of a torture. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  13. I see more sub talk, great just what I need. While the Paradigm PW2200 is a good sub for about $700 there are better subs out there, may I say way better. And yes the tube subs from HSU and SVS come to mind,I would opt for a single SVS Ultra unit with a solid external amp. I will get a pair of Ultras with no amp since I have a spare Carver TFM-75 amp! He he the TFM-75 can deliver a 1000W RMS per channel(its a dual mono design). The Revel B15 is also superior to any Paradigm, including the Servo-15.And I speak from experience here.I has the PW2200 and the Servo-15 AT HOME and tested them with HT and music, from low to extreme volumes. The Velodyne HGS15 and 18 have big output and dig deep but lack a bit in definition.Definition the Ultra,Aerial and Revel have. Then you have the Sunfire Signature, huge output and bess down to below 20Hz.Needs to be cut below 60Hz to give its best. And lest hope the RSW series from Klipsch will deliver better performance then the LF series. And again belive this or not I had the LF-10 sub for over a week and it was broken in at the store.Guess what the unit amp did clip on my pipe organ test and an air leak plagued the unit! After my tests I found the voice coil was in contact with the magnetic structure! DOH I trust Klipsch can design a great sub,the LF series was a bit of a lemon. The RSW looks to be a hit. Come on Klipsch September 10 when I log on after work I want to see some RSW specs.
  14. HornED I know what you mean here,REAL subs are rare. A real sub should be able to reach below 20Hz with power. The Revel B15,Aerial SW12 and Sunfire Signature and Mark II are real subs. Aerial SW12 being the cleanest and most defined of the bunch. Its a SVS Ultra in a gorgeous rosewood finished cabinet with a 400W RMS amp. And the Revel B15 is perfect for High-End HT,huge output and bass down to 20hz.1000W RMS amp moves the cone like dynamite. You should hear this sub,its power and quality. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  15. The RSW10 should be out very very soon! Remember September 10,well its almost here. The RSW10 should be a sure hit. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  16. I see most here talk about Paradigm,SVS,Velodyne. All fine subs,I have the Revel B15 and Aerial Acoustics SW12 and all I can say these are on par with even the Ultras! I heard the Ultra in the store,a customer purchased his Ultras and wanted to hear how they integrated with a pair of Dynaudio Contour speakers.I dont need to tell you the match was perfect, bass was defined and clean.Very nice Same with the Revel and Aerial they both add only the sub bass(in my case cut at 40Hz)to the Contour 3.3's. The bass never booms, its defined and deep.Very nice match with the very fast bass of the Contour 3.3. One good sub should be all you need, unless the speakers are in a larger room and will be pushed. Then two Ultras or nah make that one Revel B15 will be all a sane person may need. I am insane this is why I need an army of subs.I like my bass defined and with power down to a solid 20Hz. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  17. HTxpert the JL Audio bass drivers dont give hreat results in this type of "box".Most JL Audio bass drivers must be cut very low to give good resulta and need BIG amp power and good damping. I did build several subs from plans found on the net and the choice of driver is even more critical in this type of horn loaded design. Its better to build a simple ported or sealed box.Often the results will be better and less work is involved. The best sounding subs I heard are sealed(could use passive radiators)or ported. 19. First take the KSW12 for a test drive.I use this sub on one of my computer speaker systems, its a great match for Klipsch Quintets.A Denon 3801 is the heart of this PC system, overall much better then the ProMedia, you may say well DUH. Just a warning AudioReview is full of liars and frauds who claim to have used the gear they "review" and who have no clue about the sound or the piece they are "own". I would not trust AudioReview becuase of the many clowns who know nothing(or close) about audio. I saw plenty of bozos posting a "reviews" of Krell amps and awarding them 1/5! talk about lies and ignorance. The KSW12 is a great buy. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  20. SVS subs are great buys, you get alot for your dollar,I have to agree. And if you find a used Sunfire give it a listen,Sunfire subs are very good. HSU are also very good buys, similar to SVS.SVS uses better components,I'll stick with SVS. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  21. I would not put any sub in any niche,a great place is along a wall. You should experiment in the positions where the sub does not obstruct anything or does not get in the way. Since I have a KSW12,I will tell you this it performs best along a wall. Not in a corner.Corner loading only works well for sealed subs with very inert cabinets. The Sunfires,REL Q200E can be placed in a corner or niche and there is no boominess.WHY? These subs use very small and rigid cabinets and are sealed. So there is no tuby or boomy sound. The Klipsch KSW12 while not boomy(boomy if cut too high) if set up well(cut no higher then 80Hz,and placed along side a wall)will give good results. And did I say any new speaker, sub needs a break in period.Say 100-200 hours so the suspension is optimal. All mu subs sounded better after a good break in. My subs are... Klipsch KSW12(great value) Sunfire Junior(the smallest REAL sub!) Sunfire Mark II(tiny MONSTER) Sunfire Signature(13" cube supersub) Revel B15(Velodyne HGS killer, you bet your HGS) AerialAcoustics SW12(SVS Ultra like! Yes siree) On the way... SVS Ultra(heard one pair, majestic subs) Klipsch RSW15(better be great) Velodyne HGS18(just for kicks, why not its king of low) Just so you know the Klipsch RSW series subs active/passive,you have a radiator on the back. The sub needs room.Again along side a wall it should perform. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  22. September 10,its very close. The new pics are very nice, the RSW15 look like it means business.I hope Klipsch RSW line delivers on the promise, quality bass and HUGE output. And yes later when the dealer in Montreal gets the RSW15 I run to the store and pich one of these babies up. Cant wait to compare the RSW15 to my collection of subs.I am salivating right now,Klipsch if you deliver quality you have two sold(RSW12 and 15!). I may even replace my KSW12 with the RSW10(computer use!) TheEAR(s) Now theears

    Pw-2200

Paradigm makes good budget speakers and two great subs, the PW2200 and Servo-15. I still have my first set of real Hi-Fi speakers, the Atom! This little speaker introduced me to the wonderful world of quality audio, since then I upgraded ever since. The PW2200 has plenty of power for most users, goes down low and maintains the output even around 20Hz! The built quality is good and the amp has plenty of power to drive the 12 incher. The driver itself is of very good quality, almost undestructible. I had the PW2200 for two weeks and finally decided I needed even more output! So I got the Sunfire Signature, this 13 inch cube has so much ower its scary. Congrats on your purchase of the PW2200 at the asking price its one of the best deals in subs today. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  24. I did listen to the KLF30's and I liked the efortless presentation, these can play at extreme volumes with little stress. To get the max out of the KLF30 you need a good power amp.Recievers are just not up to the task, sure you will get the loudness but not the bass grip large power amps have. The RF-5 I have on trial at home so far are quite good, not the same efortless quality the larger KLF's have. The RF series are more "audiophile" like. LOL Still for true horn fans the KLF 20 and 30 are still the best bet. I will get the RF-7 as soon as the dealer here in Montreal gets them. These will serve as the main speakers for my HT system. Right now I am using the Dynaudio Contour 3.3's in my music only system. Oh yes the KLF VS RF...I'll would go with the RF-7 since I prefer the "audiophile" sound.Audiophile sound with slam. 25. I know Sunfire very well,I had the Theater Grand and Sunfire 5 channel Signature amp at home for a good week. And I own the Sunfire Signature,Mark II and Junior subs!Plus a Carver TFM-75 and Carver Knight Shadow sub. The Klipsch RF series will match very well, now the question is HOW LARGE IS YOUR LISTENIG ROOM? If its a mid-sized room RB5's would do the trick. If its again a mid sized room and like you said you want the extra SPL then the new RF-5's are great choices. By the way I now have these for test, very good match, not agressive like some other horn loaded speakers I heard. And if the room is large and you need slam to scare the dead then the RF-7's are are sure hit.Plus the better tweeter and larger drivers will not even break a sweat! The Sunfire amps have all the power you will need to drive to its limits any Klipsch. I now use a ATI 2505 beast to drive the RF-5's! LOL Let me tell you it kicks, and its not only loud when needed, quality is here! And I know about quality since my main system speakers are Dynaudio Contour 3.3's.Very detailed and these will have slam if a very powerful amp is used. TheEAR(s) Now theears
